About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Apr 29,2023Used a builder that was a member of the FMB, who took my money and trashed my house causing tens of thousands worth of damage. The FMB did nothing. Brian Berry doesn’t respond to emails. If the FMB existed to protect their members no matter how terrible their work is or how they rip people off leaving their houses trashed then they do a very good job. But they promote doing all the hard work for customers and only approving builders you can trust, which is totally misleading and completely wrong. Other reviews confirm similar experiences, and as others have said they’re just a cover for cowboy builders. If you are a consumer, avoid.

Apr 09,2023The way jobs are allocated is all wrong, for us it worked much better when we could look for work when we needed it and contact potential clients then rather that have a job or two come up when we are busy but nothing if we are looking, at a time when we would be prepared to travel a bit more or perhaps take on different types of work. Seventh year in a row when we have not received any work or been able to use any services provided. I think fmb probably need to review what they are doing to compete with nhbc, check a trade, trust a trader etc who all do similar things. Being an fmb member should be prestigious and beneficial

Apr 07,2023We are very pleased with the service we received from the FMB. Luke understood the issue and our concerns straightaway and dealt with it in a very professional way. We had been stuck with an issue with our ‘builder’ for 4 months and despite our effort to put pressure on the owner and director of the company we were getting no where. Thanks to FMB, we are satisfied with the actions taken and this would have not been possible without their involvement and desire to help us in the difficult situation we found ourselves in.
