About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Dec 11,2023To be honest we are not receiving any jobs from FMB. You took away the opportunity for choosing leads which was a driving factor for us. That platform was fair but now it seems that only certain companies are getting the Jobs. From experience, we discovered that joining Checkatrade and being a member of FMB does not work, as some people couldn’t understand why we were with a lower standard platform than FMB and didn’t employ us. This resulted in us leaving Checkatrade. Please bring back live leads on a permanent basis! Thanks Stonebeauty.

After many attempts to resolve the matter with the clients, we were unsuccessful and agreement was not found. Nov 13,2023I employed a builder, member of the FMB, who are specialising in high-end renovations, to refurbish the kitchen and ground floor cloakroom. The work carried out was very much substandard and I was charged extortionate rates for materials supplied e.g.£267.73+VAT for two sheets of plywood 2440x1220x18mm. I contacted the FMB and was referred to QASSS because of the complexity of my case. I provided all the evidence requested by QASSS, copies of documents, emails, photos, videos... After two and a half months, my case was passed to TD. Aggressive, unpleasant and definitely not a mediator. All the information I had supplied on the request of QASSS, was deemed opinion based and therefore could not be taken into account for mediation. (even the cost of the plywood) Since, I have received a copy of the certificate issued by the FMB for the works carried out. The certificate dated 21st April states : 'Work in progress, satisfactory. No pictures supplied. The works were 'finished' and the FMB issued the certificate without any evidence. I did contact the FMB as I was here that day and didn't meet the inspector. Eventually, I was told this was a video inspection. I asked for a copy of the video and was told there was no video
