About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

May 10,2023I engaged a builder who was a member of the FMB. This builder failed on so many accounts to adhere to the FMB code of conduct and I provided evidence of this to the FMB. I forced the builder to go to mediation by calling and complaining to the FMB (the builder told me it would be a waste of time, and it was). In the end I fired the builder. I emailed again to complain to the FMB but they took no action and the builder remains a member. Don’t be drawn in by builders who have this membership as it means nothing. I can see that the FMB have replied to my initial review. Interestingly they have sided with the builder’s argument about why costs increased but have no response to my point they the builder did not follow the FMB code of conduct and the FMB failed to respond to any of my concerns about that. Yes we went to mediation and that failed to help resolve the issue. In the end I took over project management and completed the work with the help of other tradesmen after my builder refused to come back and left us without a completed roof over the winter period. I also completed the work based on the structural drawings that the first builder blamed were the problem when in fact it was really a problem that he had absolutely no oversight of the work and no project management skills. Once again I state that the FMB accreditation served no purpose and they failed to hold the builder to account. In my view it is a useless accreditation.

May 07,2023I wouldn't advise anyone to use FMB. Builders qualified and unqualified PAY the FMB for membership and what what they get in return is a the right to say they are part of the FMB. If you have problems with a 'FMB Builders' the complaints system is token narrative. It does nothing to resolve the situation and we have had to take legal action against the FMB. It is a scam and people buy into meaningless words like - federation of master builders. It means nothing and is not recognised nationally by the any government body.

May 03,2023FMB is just scam! No consequences for the builder who broke FMB's code of conduct, no proper investigation of the case. Outsourced dispute resolution to completely incompetent/inadequate staff at QASSS, who wasted 6 months of my time and achieved nothing whatsoever! Dispute was proposed to be taken to expert determination at the cost of 4.5 thousand. Which on top of my losses of 20k was just massive smack into the face! Another cowboy builder gone unpunished and continues his business!

For example, our pilot construction coaching programme was put together by Hayley and Maria Coulter. Creating a new networking group within the FMB. Using the Facebook and Instagram pages to get more information and exposure. The website tools that the FMB offer are also invaluable great place for us to help continually improve and develope as new level of design and build construction companies, businesses stand proud of their acceptance as accredited members.
