About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

May 29,2022We gave our extension project (approx £100K) to an FMB certified builder Rhino Contractors Ltd. based in Kent in early September 2021 through RESI. They delayed our project right from start, and gave us shoddy work all along. All this time expanding their business and completing other jobs while ours was languishing. The contractors/people they worked with were rude and unprofessional. They refused to repair our leaking roof and when we rightfully insisted that we cant move forward on the build until issues are fixed they felt it right to abandon our project in April 2022. They cited poor health of one of the partners and that they are closing their business, however, I am informed that they are completing other projects and the company is very much afloat. We still live in a broken house and have lost 52K to them. All I have is the roof guarantee from them. This is the FMB certification for you. We also have no recourse through RESI. Experiences of others have made us shy of even approaching the FMB for any support! We are absolutely distraught and shattered by how much this builder has troubled and harassed us. Unfortunately, the end is still not in sight for us. So dont trust this mark. It counts for nothing.

Apr 14,2022Massively let down as a customer that chose a FMB contractor. I have issues with the builder not completing a loft conversion in 18 months o being onsite. tried the FMB mediation service of which the contractor did not engage on two different occasions. i am now out of pocket but over £23k, have a half completed conversion that needs to be removed and rebuilt as building control will not pass it and no builder to help. i have had no insulation for over 12m and water damage to my property. its truly horrific. I understand that the FMB are not responsible for the contractor but they have offered no protection to me as a customer. They have offered no support or help to rectify the situation. I can only conclude that there are no advantages as a customer to having a FBM contractor. I had to chase the FBM multiple times to get them to even remove the contractor from there website. Thank you for confirming you proforma a credit check. Looking on company house (HMRC) the company have not been filing there tax returns and have had multiple correspondence from HMRC to get this sorted including messages to remove the company so I don't feel your processes are adequate and ultimately lead to me loosing out as a customer including a large financial loss. 1% of people is still a lot and your process has failed me. You have also in your reply demonstrated that you are not going to help me despite me using a FMB contractor.
