About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.

Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.

Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.

The Federation of Master Builders is not interested in checking up on builders whose work is dangerous. Despite written evidence from the fire door manufacturer saying that the fire doors had been rendered useless by the poor fitting that was carried out, no action was taken and I was left to foot the bill to have them all redone myself. The QASSS mediator provided by the FMB was completely biased towards the builder and I was asked to feel sorry for him and make allowances. The Compromise Agreement was drawn up by Tracey Dilworth and the builder without my input. No wonder the builder’s wife, Jelena Krivova, has left an excellent review! She states in her review that I was happy with the agreement. That is not true. I told Tracey that I wasn’t happy and I was told to ‘take it or leave it or go to court’. When the builder failed to do all the things listed, I was only then told that the outcome of the mediation wasn’t binding and I could take it to court. I can’t understand why a mediation service is so keen to push people towards the court?! I wasn’t told about the option of going to the ombudsman and only found out about this after I’d accepted the resolution which meant it was too late. The mediation service, QASSS, do not have anybody who regulates their service to ensure impartiality. I was told by Tracey Dilworth that I should make cultural allowances for the aggressive behaviour I had been subjected to by the builder in my own home. I followed my complaint up at the time with both QASSS internal complaints procedure and the FMB and nothing was done.

Didn't get my insurance renewal until a couple of days before it was due despite calling for a renewal price, price was about #100 higher than one i had already taken at this time, otherwise i have been with them for a few years

We had a need to use the FMB Dispute Resolution service & found the advice and support extremely professional and efficient. They worked hard to get the desired results in difficult circumstances. It made the whole process less stressful & we as a company were extremely grateful for the service provided. We are very happy with the membership as it provides excellent online training for our staff too. The benefits are extremely good value for money.

A benefit to Builders or Customers? I got a company who was registered on this site, and thought that there must have been some vetting process or something, but it looks like there isn't. The company refused to take any payments except bank transfer, saying they would walk off the job if I asked again. they then said they would send me a report and receipt but never did. When the think fell down, they first refused to do anything as it was over a year, then said they would sort something but didn't. I ended up solving the problem myself. I wanted to leave a review of the company but it's greyed out. I suppose it's naive, -to quote their website it's "run by members for members". so putting them first rather than customers?

Suzanne from the Federation of Master builders couldn’t have been more helpful and professional. From the first telephone contact she took care of my whole application. Keeping me informed every step of the way. She gave me very good advice on a few things that I need to address, without being pushy. Suzanne is a great asset to the company!

Unfortunately, I have had an awful experience with a builder who is accredited by the FMB which meant we had to go through a mediation process. This was carried out by Tracy from QASS, who were instructed to by FMB. Tracy was great. She managed the process really well from start to finish and kept great patience whilst remaining totally professional at all times. I also had to ask Luke and Lyndsey from FMB to help chase the builder when they did not uphold their end of the compromise agreement and make a payment within the time stipulated. Both were brilliant and proactively kept me informed of their progress. Whilst this element of FMB's service is great and highly valuable to consumers (I would have awarded 5 stars for this service) who have been let down by their builder, what I am disappointed to hear is that their review system is flawed. Reviews are submitted by the builder with the consent of the customer which effectively means they will only provide positive reviews and may lead to customers being misled when choosing a builder. Hopefully the builder in question has his status removed as his work was far from 'master' standard and a future customer is saved from being subjected to them

We recently had a dispute with a tricky client who was refusing to pay for works we'd completed, despite having previously agreed the costs and told our team she was happy on completion. Lindsey at the FMB helped to mediate between us and the client over the course of 3 months, and she was absolutely fantastic. The client ultimately paid an amount we were willing to accept to avoid the need for court proceedings. I have no doubt whatsoever that the situation would have ended up in court without Lindsey's very calm and collected approach to bring the case to a close.

I have been with FMB for nearly 2 years and have had no issues, smooth sailing. Recently, I had a dispute with a client which went to FMB. Luke Duncan was the appointed handler. Luke was fair, transparent and resolved the matter within weeks. The issue is settled and both parties are satisfied with the result. Thank you to Luke and FMB
