About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Feb 02,2022No problems day to day stuff. But not sure what value the linking to customers has for us. I haven't seen an enquiry for prospective work come through for us in at least a couple of years. Not a problem at the moment as we are booked up way into 2023. But if things change economically it isn't a service that seems to deliver.

Jan 28,2022Do not waste your time finding a builder through the FMB as it just protects its members and does not take any action if they do not follow the FMB code of conduct. Do not accept the mediation service offered as it’s just there to protect the FMB and their funding source - the builders registered on their site

Alison is knowledgeable, helpful and attentive, she was easy to talk to and very quick at responding to E-mails - even if there were simply questions, that many would think were a bit irrelevant. Dec 03,2021This organisation is not to be trusted at all. We used one of their members for our house and they left us with dangerous electric fittings, a support beam which was not fitted inline with the report of the Structural engineer and many other problems. We complained to the FMB who offered mediation (Mediation means the builder has to agree to any issues otherwise they can refuse to discuss this and then the builder can say they were willing to take part in mediation). To top this the FMB had the brass neck to allow this builder to put himself forward for an award for the work he did on our house (In the middle of our complaint against him, in direct breech of their own rules) and with no reference to us as the client, let alone permission. They put a picture of my house discussing the excellent work the builder had done. After someone else (who had similar bad work i.e not following structural engineers reports etc by the same builder) they then supposedly launched an investigation into this builder who resigned before the investigation could report. They then listed them as having resigned whilst under investigation but lifted this when the builder complained as they resigned before the investigation could begin. This builder has now opened a new company and has gone into liquidation with his original company. this whiffs of corruption. I would not trust the FMB in any circumstances. The old saying you dont bite the hand the feeds you rings true with them.
