About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Jul 01,2022I found myself in an extremely stressful situation with a builder trying to charge £1300 for a quote without any prior agreement. I tried to resolve it myself but felt intimidated and bullied. We asked FMB to become involved and it was the best decision, we were allocated Tracy and she was such a professional and diligent lady. She listened to the facts of our case and contacted the builder on our behalf. Tracy has the unique ability to cut through treacle and get to the facts - she resolved the issue within a day. Her speed and communication skills were excellent spending time with us to ensure we fully understood how it had been left with the builder. To have the case resolved satisfactorily was good enough but to get an apology from the builder was something I didn’t expect. Thank you Tracy for taking this worry away

Brilliant service. If you have a problem with a builder who is a member of FMB definitely use this service!

Jun 08,2022I have just finished some mediation with Tracey, on behalf of FMB. Tracey guided me through the mediation process and sent documentation for me to read regarding it. She was so thorough in her questioning, and remained impartial all the way through not revealing what way the mediation would go until she had all the facts. Tracey kept me informed all the way through and was great to deal with. I hope I do't find myself in this situation again, but if I do I would have no hesitation on contacting the FMB to deal help me...in the hope I got Tracey again!

Jun 03,2022Had a problem with a FMB member. After going through their dispute resolution process and believing we had a satisfactory outcome, sadly the FMB is ultimately toothless and would not compel the builder to do what was agreed. In the end the dodgy builder left the federation leaving us without compensation and recourse. I’m sure the organisation has some benefits but keeping dodgy tradesmen on the straight and narrow is not one of them.

Jun 03,2022The FMB does what is supposed to. It provides regular updates on legislation and best practice for members, as well as many ther areas of support. And it allows members to promote themselves should they wish to on the FMB website. From experience I think that most enquires arising from the website are from serious and genuine potential customers who expect a professional service.

Jul 09,2022Poor. I thought the FMB was a mark of quality and selected our builder based on membership. The outcome of our FMB sponsored mediation was an independent report that stated questionable quality about the carpentry and brick work. I discussed this with the FMB. The contractor is still an active member.
