About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.
Very helpful and dealt with dispute quickly

I was dissatisfied with the work that my builder, FN1 Roofmaster had done on my property and launched a complaint. I was directed to an independent mediator at QASSS, they have been so diligent and helpful.
Luke was extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to help me and my company. he was extremely informative and knowledgable. I felt as though he genuinely cared for what he was doing and had a passion for it which really showed in the way he handled my case. I would highly recommend Luke and the FMB team
It does what it says
Had some work done by an FMB member (Maple Building Services Hampshire Ltd), a RICS expert witness surveyor reported defects, deviation from plans and non compliance However I can’t leave a review on their profile on the FMB website because the builder hasn’t given me the link to do so. Would appear builders can therefore choose their best work for reviews and to feature in their FMB profile page?? This seems wrong to me, as a consumer FMB tell us they can help us avoid unreliable builders (as per their Google ads), yet they don’t share honest customer feedback? Doesn’t sit comfortably with me. As a consumer I would like to see all reviews to be able to make an informed judgement and decision. If I had seen all reviews I may have thought twice about my decision to employ this builder. Reviews: Don't feel unbiased or honest. Lacks integrity? Can the reviews be trusted? Going through the FMB mediation process also doesn’t feel unbiased as a result. I just don’t feel I can trust them. Would seem the FMB logo, seen by many consumers as a stamp of quality, is ‘bought’ by way of membership and there is very little support for homeowners. No doubt I will get the standard stock answer on here from the FMB. No doubt more consumers will be mislead about the FMBs purpose & scope. There’s already a fair few similar reviews on here about the FMB.. The FMB is a membership organisation not a consumer protection organisation and should stop portraying themselves as helping consumers find the best builders - the reviews in the builders profile pages are biased as they are vetted by the member. If you want to see the shoddy workmanship undertaken by the Master Builder we appointed (after checking them out on the FMB website) then Google Maple Building Services Hampshire and look at their Google reviews. I feel so let down. Update: today, after 30 days, the FMB closed our dispute because they can’t resolve, mentioning the (honest) reviews I’ve left on Google & directory sites inc this one. Apparently I’ve been reported to the police for leaving said reviews. Also today we found more building regulation contraventions which building control are aware of but builder is denying, we have strong evidence. Just really supports my feelings ref the process not being fair and honest and balanced. I would really think twice about relying on the FMB ‘badge’ or their consumer support (complaints & mediation).

Tracy Dilwoth's mediation for my case was excellent. She had to deal with a very arrogant consumer who refused to pay the remainder of the agreed price. From start to finish she was professional and communication throughout was excellent, a pleasure to deal with! Although I won the case, I still had to take the consumer to court and Tracy was very helpful through this process also. I would highly recommend Tracy for ADR. Thank you so much

BAD ORGANISATION - ABOUT AS USEFUL AS A CHOCOLATE TEAPOT! DID NOT HELP ME [HOMEOWNER] WHEN WORK BY THEIR MEMBER LEFT UNATTENDED ISSUES! THEY DO NOT ENSURE YOU GET YOUR GUARANTEE. TO RESOLVE THE 'DISPUTE' THEY PASS YOU OVER TO "THEIR CHOSEN" ADR [= BIAS AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED], FMB PAY THE MEDIATOR HEREIN LIES A PROBLEM, MEDIATOR IS BOUND TO BE LOOKING AFTER THEIR OWN PURSE? NOW NEED TO GET JUSTICE THROUGH THE COURTS FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT AND SO IT GOES ON. THIS IS SECOND TIME I'VE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM ALTHOUGH OTHER CONTRACTOR WASN'T REGISTERED WITH ANY ORGANISATION! FMB ARE NOT THE TRADITIONAL ORGANISATION ONE WOULD EXPECT, THAT UPHOLDS TRUE VALUES, TRADITIONALLY SKILLED BUILDERS WHO CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. PS: TRADER HAS LEFT JOB "UNFINISHED" ISSUES EXIST BUT REFUSES TO RETURN. I ASKED SEVERAL TIMES BY EMAIL FOR MY GUARANTEE YET HE HAS IGNORED ME. HE CALLED RECENTLY REGARDING "MONEY" HIS MOST IMPORTANT TOPIC! I MENTIONED THAT HE'D NOT GIVEN ME MY GUARANTEE - HIS REPLY "YOU DON'T NEED TO WORRY AS WE'LL COME BACK IF ANY PROBLEMS ARISE!" COULD HAVE KNOCKED ME DOWN WITH A FEATHER - HAS REFUSED TO COME BACK SINCE WORK WAS DONE 3 MONTHS AGO! THIS CONTRACTOR IS NOT GENUINE. I'M FORCED TO TAKE THE LEGAL ROUTE. IF I WISH TO POST A REVIEW THIS TRADER IS ALLOWED TO CHOOSE IF HE POSTS IT OR NOT! HE CAN PICK AND CHOOSE AND OBVIOUSLY WILL NATURALLY ONLY POST GOOD REVIEWS! THIS SYSTEM SAME FOR ALL MEMBERS OF FMB! WHOLE FMB SYSTEM/SERVICE THEREFORE IS FLAWED! IT STINKS.

This is a great organisation which has been around for years and years. People look for this logo knowing your going to get a professional builder. So you have confidence in the builder you instruct to carry out you small or large projects.

Mar 23,2022Entered into mediation with a very unreasonable client, which was the passed to QASSS to deal with. Tracy was assigned the case and was extremely fair, professional, she would not succumb to hearsay or nonsense, and dealt only in facts and evidence. Genuinely relieved to have gone through the process with them.
