About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.

Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.

Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.

We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

I applied online to FMB not really knowing too much about it. Tracey Prentice who called up explained everything and was really helpful. With the type of work we're now involved in it really does seem like a good idea to become a member of FMB. Thanks for your help Tracey

Periodic Inspection by the British Board of Agrément We had our periodic inspection carried out by the BBA on behalf of the Federation Of Master Builders. This was a very in depth inspection, delving into every aspect of the build process and they wanted to see photographic evidence of each stage. The inspection lasted for over an hour. Really happy with the attention to detail that they look into, which proves that we are a member of an organisation that takes quality, expertise and experience very seriously which ensures that all members meet and excel beyond expectations. It was good to receive positive feedback and compliments of the quality of our work from the independent inspector.

An absolute sham of a company conning consumers with a trusted trade recognition. We were missold the FMB at a housebuilding expo as consumers on the basis that the builders listed were throughly vetted and trustworthy. We engaged exacting standard limited for a ground floor extension and general refurbishment. 1 year later we have incomplete works, no building control sign off, no electrical installation certificates, faulty drainage works, and a leaking new roof extension. We haven't heard from exacting standard limited in 6 months when they pulled a disappearing act. Twice we engaged with FMB in their ADR but they simply took the builders word each time that they would come back on site and closed the case. At no point did the builders ever communicate with us. When we raised it with the code of conduct give zero communication, lies, faulty and dangerous works that could be inspected, and deceit and fraud for taking money for works not done. Apparently that's not enough to expel a member. The FMB only cares for its monthly membership fee and is a complete scam for consumers. I have no idea how they can advertise 'build with confidence' or have a supporting homeowners page when it is clearly complete rubbish.

Please could FMB, Provide evidence to support, when and how "Absolute Windows" agreed to revisit the property, after the previous 1 minute, 17 seconds inspection recorded on the cctv. I wish to add that you were made aware the calls to your service, were recorded on an auxiliary aid , the calls support the discriminate and gross misconduct received from your staff. I any attempts are made to dispute this, the calls will be posted to evidence the facts of the conversations for public interest FMB,Discrimination And Serious Misconduct Dear FMB, You are aware that the disabled service user has call recordings to support that your staff have advised her not to contact Absolute Windows to arrange a aecond inspection and that Absolute Windows would not be contacting her.Due, to FMB, agreeing to liaise with Absolute Windows to arrange an appointment and inform the disabled service user why they wish to do a secondary inspection. When they do not believe that there is any issues with the two doors Beyond one of the doors having six hinges. If FMB, insist on providing untruthful and false narratives of complaints against their service user and service. The calls will be posted for public attention. FMB, has advised the disabled service user that struggles to read and write that they have sent their response in a letter.Failing to inform the disabled service user and also failing to provide any evidence to support they have indeed provided a response. The calls will show how your staff use aggressive behaviour during calls to their service. Written on behalf of a disabled service user The Federation of master builders Discriminate and are biased towards customers complaints in favour of their members .FMB,have refused to respond to serious complaints against (Inbrey) Absolute Windows, for their fitters exposing their privates while urinating on three occasions against the disabled customers house walls. When children were at the property.Recorded on cctv, the fitters put spit (salvia) on the customers door fames six times with the same hands they used to hold their privates while urinating, and confirmed it is their company policy to use spit on call recording. The doors ,are cracked hanging out of the wall, with gaps underneath giving access to woodlice and a slugs a slug is still in the skirting. There is mold in both door window panels, they have given five different prices and when they did their first less than a minuet inspection they said the only issue is they have put two extra hinges on the door. The issues with the doors are to long to list and Absolute Windows have refused to state why they now want a second inspection 6 months later. When they said it is a perfect fit and have refused to contact the customer by phone. When they know they have disabilities and cannot read. FMB, said they have sent a letter to the customer who cannot read and refused to state what date they sent the letter or what the content of their letter to the customer. Disappointed to receive feedback from Disputes team that we are unable to leave any feedback warning of unprofessional standards from a member of the FMB. Being a member of a professional organisation would imply that certain professional standards in work and procedures are met and not just a case of paying to be a member. This could be quite misleading.

This organization is very much for the builders, as a consumer\customer do NOT assume your builder having an FMB membership is any sign of quality or assurance that they won't do a bad job or steal money from you. This is exactly what happened to me and FMB did nothing to help other than email the builder and sit with their finger crossed that he responded. They told us to hold off any legal proceedings or they wouldn't be able to help us. So we waited over 6 weeks for some kind of response or resolution. However, the builder in question Paul Rngureanu from Alonso Construction Ltd just ignored them completely. FMB did not call or put anything in the post, just emails so once they got no response, they simply removed him from their registration, for him to be able to go do this with other people. They should have left him on there with poor reviews and a note as to why he is no longer a member. The FMB is a toothless organization, we have even tried to claim on the FMB recommended insurance only to be told it won't be covered. ------------------------------------------- In response to your reply. Well it turns out that our builder had no trading history, the company was listed in his wife's name because he couldn't register a company himself, also the site assessment was done via video call! That isn't a proper independent inspection! This shows the poor level of quality that the FMB accepts. The timelines that you mentioned were not stuck to... If you search for Alonso Construction Ltd on the FMB site, it just shows that he is not a current member. For anyone to find out that he was expelled they would need to to know there was an expelled page as this is NOT in your menus and not serachable. Once they find out about it, they would need to search through 5 sections of your "Expelled members" to see if their chosen builder is on there. How much harder do you want to make it for consumers to identify fraudulent builders? Maybe password protect the page too so that we have to guess the correct password before accessing it to check on the status of the chosen builder. That information should be accessible through your find a builder page, THEN you will be doing your job of assuring quality builders get the work...
