About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Jun 10,2021As an ordinary member of the public to whom erecting a garden shed is like building The Great Wall of China being able to acquire a guide to good builders is truly a Godsend! The Federation provides the security of not being only on the right lines in resourcing a capable builder but, furthermore, knowing that when you contact the builder and mention FMB, they know that they have standards to meet.

Jun 10,2021Having been a member of the FMB for over 8 years we have benefitted from constant support to help us grow and drive our business forward, particularly more recently when times have been more than a little challenging. The comprehensive resources available to us as a member have been invaluable and the ongoing championing of SME’s within the industry, at Government level, ensures we are well represented in all manner of construction related issues. An FMB membership must be earnt; only businesses operating to a high standard will be considered, this can only be a good thing for fellow builders and clients alike!

Jun 10,2021Question to FMB. How can I get all the FMB registered builders I have contacted to get back to me. I have planning permission for the work in Shropshire. So have just not replied. A small number have viewed the existing house, taken the plans and the structural calcs. Said they would get back with an estimate, then despite emails they do not reply. Where do I go from here? Any suggestions FMB?

I would recommend contacting them if you need help with issues with your builder.

May 28,2021As an FMB Member I really feel its the gold standard for Domestic Clients - members have to be vetted and inspected to be part of the organisation and in my view, having the FMB as a resource both for the Trade Members and the wider Public brings a lot more confidence to a project from everyone's perspective. Jun 11,2021We had a house built in 2013 by a member of the FMB. The house was for a disabled person. We raised issues about the workmanship and experience of the Builder with the FMB who glossed over things. We are now in the process of have an extension on the existing house built by the member of the FMB. The issues that are now showing up show that the incompetence of the builder was something we were right to highlight. It is a disgrace that the FMB side with builders who are dishonest and incompetent and don’t investigate genuine concerns.
