We ported our mortgage from our property with the intent to renew when the inital rate expired a few months later. They basicly pushed the approval of our mortage application to the back of the queue because the title deed on our property was being updated when they were appointed and did not notify anyone. I only realised our mortgage was still with our old provider when they sent a letter through notifying us we were now on a 8% interest rate. When we chased them admitted they were at fault and started the process. They wanted us to fill out a lot of application forms (these had my wifes maiden name one and the pdfs were untitled). These could have been done earlier. Only once the forms were completed did they state that as my wife has her passport in her maiden name and the title deed was in her married name they could only proceed if a solicitor varified her id. This took a signifcant amount of time (about 10 hours papaer work arranging doc. signing etc over the course of a week) to get to this point. With no resolution in sight (they wanted everything hand signed to match passport signatures too, or something like that was not clear) it made more sense to take out a mortgage at a higher interest rate with our current provider. Have cost us about £3000 in saving on a mortgage, really should put in a formal complaint but I feel they will just waste more time. I think provided everying is super simply with lots of time and you really track them then they could be ok, but cant handle any oddities to their system of correct their own errors.
Would recommend dealing with things very efficiently and promptly.

Re-mortgage with NatWest, free legals provided by Gordons. Communication was terrible throughout. My case handler changed without me being advised. I had to call daily in the end for any updates. I have asked a few questions in the last couple of days leading up to completion, and the answers I have received have not been great, almost as if it is assumed that everyone knows how the process of re-mortgaging works. Updates by email for each stage of the process would have made me feel a lot more informed, and made the whole thing smoother. I would not use Gordons again through choice.
From start to finish this was an easy, quick process. Any question I had were answered very promptly and everything was very easy to understand. Shona was great to correspond with, I would definitely recommend Gordons Property Lawyers.
