Holidays for Mature Solo Travellers
One Traveller solo holidays are about like-minded, mature individuals who, by choice or by circumstance, want to enjoy unique holidays throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.
A family-run company, One Traveller was started in 2007 by a highly experienced Tour Manager who specialised in escorting solo travel holidays. One Traveller has since gained a reputation as the UK’s number one singles holiday specialist for the over 50s and has won multiple publicly-voted awards.

I have just been reading the negative reviews about this company and the review I wrote in June 2019 has not changed my opinion of them. I went on the Dunstan Hall Christmas holiday in 2019 and, whilst I agree that the food on Christmas Day could have been better, overall it was fine. It rained when we had our tour of Norwich, but rain in December is only to be expected. Cromer is a small town and to find it closed on Boxing Day should not have been a surprise, when I saw the itinerary for this I did wonder what anyone would do in Cromer that day. I found Dunstan Hall to be warm and welcoming. Because of travel issues I am always wary of going abroad at Christmas, but I went to Lake Garda in 2014 and am still raving about it. In general all the holidays I have had with One Traveller have been great, and next month, May 2022, I am off on No 15 with them. If that does not speak for itself, then I don't know what does. The negative reviews are certainly not my experience of the company or its staff and tour managers.
i first used One Traveller back in 2010. I had recently "lost" my partner and he had been going to take me to China. I spotted a One Traveller advert and rang them. Ian, the founder of the company had a long conversation with me explaining about the trip to China and answering all my many queries. He suggested I go away and think about it and get back in touch if I was interested. After a few days I called back and decided to go ahead - what a fantastic decision that was. I met my fellow travellers at a pre-holiday get together the night before our flight. The holiday was amazing and very well run. Since that time I have travelled a further 14 times with One Traveller. Their tour managers are exceptional. They are well versed in the tour and their knowledge of the areas we visit is fantastic. They are also on hand at any time to deal with any queries - of whatever type - and to try and resolve any problems. The office staff are so very friendly and I really like the fact that they ring you a couple of days before your trip to ensure that all is okay etc. The other thing I like is that you get a list of your fellow travellers prior to the holiday, i have often found that I have travelled with some of the passengers on previous trips. Also, the unique numbering system at meals ensures that the whole group mix well - great idea. I, personally, would highly recommend One Traveller I like the clear description of the holiday as to what is included, and what is not, also whether you need to be aware of a lot of walking on any particular day - this alerts anyone who has any slight mobility problems to see clearly what those visits include. The pricing may seem a little high BUT the brochure clearly shows exactly what you are getting for your money - great hotels, excursions, meals etc. And you can rest assured that we all pay the same price for the holiday - no discounts for late booking etc. I have made many new friends whilst travelling with One Traveller and will continue to use the company.
The friendliness and quick response of staff when booking and making enquiries is unique. Hotels are of a great standard compared with some other solo holidays and generally everything is taken care of, leaving nothing to worry about except how to fit in the next delicious meal. If you like solo exploring, there's probably less time given than with some companies but this means holidays end up cheaper for what you get than with alternatives that have loads of hidden extras. Having tried other singles holidays, One Traveller would always be my first choice for peace of mind, fun and value for money.
I was very surprised when I read some of the negative comments about One Traveller left by other travellers, as I have had nothing but positive experiences on all the holidays I have taken with them.
I have recently returned from the trip to Sri Lanka, a country I have visited on previous occasions. From start to finish the tour was very well organised, our Tour Manager had only 24 hours notice, and did a terrific job. The local guide, coach driver, and assistant also did a splendid job. If there was a problem, such as my room being flooded it was reported and checked by Richard. My food allergy was taken into account. I have always found the Head Office staff very knowledgeable and helpful. One of your previous clients complains about "groups of bitchy women" on his holiday. Perhaps he should travel alone. One Traveller works for me and I hope to continue booking their holidays.
I have been on two European and one UK holidays with OT. My first experience was shortly after I was widowed and, at 50, I was easily the youngest in the group. My fellow travellers were great and we had so much fun and I’m still in contact with three of them. During the pandemic I tried and failed to go on 6 more European holidays and the Nile cruise. This year I have three more booked with OT in the hope I’ll be able to travel. Overall I find them an excellent company with knowledgeable and conscientious office staff and holiday reps, and a good choice of destinations and dates. On the down side I think the overnight stays at the airport hotels are very expensive and my first and only experience at Heathrow was abysmal. Partly due to the hotel and partly due to the OT rep. Fortunately we had a different rep on the actual holiday who was brilliant and I had one of the best holidays ever. I also think their UK trips are too expensive, especially in comparison to what is included in the overseas holidays. The trip to Oxford last September was marred by chaotic service from the hotel, but OT listened to the group’s complaints and will not be using that hotel this year. Despite these downsides I have no hesitation in rating them 5 stars.
I have just returned from the most memorable holiday of my life! One Traveller excel in every way from value for money to the most amazing places and people I have ever met.Robert was our guide together with Zahir,I can't praise them enough, for their knowledge and consideration shown.Thank you so,so much.
Imagine a cosy country retreat at Christmas, with log fires and warm rooms, delicious food and an expectation of four star treatment - this failed on every account! It was the most miserable Christmas I have ever had! I was cold, I was hungry and when I arrived I was concerned [especially with Covid so prevalent] to find the Tour Manager choking and coughing in a curtained alcove. When I wrote to OneTraveller they initially ignored my letter and when prompted, issued a very unsatisfactory explanation. The majority of TripAdvisor reports complain of inedible and disappointing food at this hotel and the combination of poor catering, cold public rooms and two tours to [1] Norwich in the rain and [2] closed Cromer on Boxing Day just topped the whole trip off as abysmal. No explanation was given why the Tour Manager was mixing with others when he was ill; we were advised upon our return that 'someone' on the trip had been diagnosed with Covid and we should take a test and self isolate. No explanation was given why the Tour Manager was unable to provide contingency plans for the 2 included excursions, when the weather was poor. From the outside the hotel looked impressive, but it was a mausoleum - public rooms were cold and draughty. There was no dining experience as the venue for meals was a coffee bar with half moon plastic benches. Christmas lunch was served in a bowl, with frozen brusselsprouts slimy on the outside and frozen in the middle. The insulting thing was OneTraveller attempted to convince me that this reputable hotel had been used for many years and was acceptable to the majority. £1,200 for a five night stay, providing my own transport to Norwich was expensive, but would have been worth it if the food was edible and the hotel was warm and inviting; the fact that it wasn't was very depressing. Tripadvisor feedback shows the majority of comments on the food are complaints rather than praise, but OneTraveller maintain that the majority of people were satisfied. It is unfortunate that single people are often so desperate not to spend Christmas alone that they're willing to be too forgiving!
I did a tour of The USA Deep South with this company. I am diabetic and control my blood sugars by diet. One Traveller were informed of this when I booked. However, the tour guide made no attempt to ensure that I was served food that I could actually eat. I was very happy with the tour but this was a real problem - I warned him several times that I would complain to the company if he didn't get his act together, but it made no difference. When I returned, I rang One Traveller to complain but the company were not interested, even though I told them that I wouldn't travel with them again. After a lot of badgering, I got a grudging "sorry", and that was it. No mention of addressing the problem on future tours or losing my custom! Presumably, they have so much business that they don't have to concern themselves with minor irritants like customer complaints! Referring to the response from One Traveller regarding the booking form being lost in the post .... how then do they account for the fact that I have an email dated 4/7/19 from One Traveller's admin address which has the booking form 1561741362 attached, and the form clearly states "Diabetic - controlled diet, very low carb diet, no sugar". Liars!!
I've been on several holidays with this company and the last two holidays have not been well organised or smooth running. In Cambridge, we were placed in a hotel that did not have any heating and to add insult to injury the company offered a good will gesture of £25 a night for this privilege! In Italy at Christmas, we were promised gala dinners for Christmas Eve and Day but what we actually received bore no resemblance to the gala dinner offered to other hotel guests. This company relies on returning customers and takes positive comments only. They censor any negative comments on their FB community page and do not reply to negative emails. A healthy company needs negative feedback for its growth and prosperity. They tell you where to sit at dinner which encourages sycophants and surly individuals. I've decided not to travel with them again because of the lack of transparency in this company.
My sister & I are about to go on a Christmas holiday with One Traveller, but after the lack of help or support we have received regarding the PCR tests & locator forms we need to complete, we will not be using them again. I made it clear when booking that my sister does not use digital devices & was told no problem, we can can communicate via letter with her. Now they have said it is her responsibility to sort this and she should get herself a smart phone or get your sister to do it all for you. She explained that I had recently spent 7 weeks off work with stress and wasn't happy having to use technology, but was told " it won't take her long, get together & do it whilst having a glass of wine". When my sister told her not everyone can afford digital devices, she was told to take it up with the government. We are both very disappointed with this service and are no longer looking forward to the holiday. UPDATE. I was promised a call today (8/12), but never received it, this just gets worse. I always believe you can tell whether a company has good customer service, by what they do when there is a problem. In this case, nothing! My reply from One traveller suggested that I had previous knowledge of completing a Locator Form; I'm not sure how they got this impression, when I clearly said I had no idea how to do these tests or forms
I was thinking of booking with One Traveller and emailed them 4 days ago with a question and still no reply. If their customer service is this bad how can you trust them with your first time traveling alone.
My holiday destination was Harrogate. The hotel was dirty and service extremely poor. Using Covid as an excuse isn't good enough; if the hotel couldn't cope; they shouldn't have opened! It is the responsibility of One traveller to ensure the hotel is as advertised. One traveller is okay if you like to be micro managed and told what to do and where to sit for dinner and on coaches. I would not recommend or use One traveller again.
Having travelled with One Traveller a number of times I would highly recommend them. They really care that their guests have a good time. From the ore departure get together to the final day of the trip they really go that extra bit to make sure every is taken care of. There tour leaders are really knowledgeable and helpful. My trip to Puglia with them was fabulous!!!
I have had four holidays with one traveler and they will always be my first choice as a single lady who still has a passion to travel. From booking to returning home from my fabulous holidays I can’t fault them. The sales team are so helpful and patient. The hotels are fabulous and never disappoint the tour guides are so knowledgeable and friendly. Can’t wait for 2021 and new adventures.
I chose One Traveller as it was my first holiday without my husband who passed away two years ago. The holiday was to Morocco which I had visited previously and loved. Unfortunately there were several problems, the second hotel was “overbooked” and we were put in the Ramada in Fez which had obviously been closed down and the outcome was an extremely nasty stomach problem which affected most of the group for the rest of the holiday. It was obvious that we had contracted a food handling amebic type illness which was not looked into, there were several elderly people on this trip and dehydration was a strong possibility. Several of the planned excursions were missed because of the problems and we were told that a special meal with a free drink had been arranged as compensation....most people were unable to eat at this point! I have contacted the company twice and received a general letter saying that things had been improved, my letter to the customer service manager has been ignored. There was no offer of compensation or even a discounted holiday which I would have considered. There were other problems with the holiday and it certainly did not provide value for money in my opinion however my main concern as the lack of any duty of care for what could have proved to be a very serious failing on behalf of the company. I feel that the complete lack of understanding of the situation and it’s seriousness shows the company in a very bad light and I certainly wouldn’t recommend them to anyone travelling solo.
One Traveller is not what it advertises to be. Their motto is “come join our family” but having travelled with them recently the company does not give 2 hoots about their clients. The group is rife with bitchy women who travel together with friends made on previous trips and new comers are excluded from the foray and left to their own devices. Tours are not well thought out. Crack of dawn flights and wake up calls at 3 am when later flights are available. Tour managers are powerless and only follow the rules. Staff at the head office rather officious and unfriendly. They overcharge for upgrades so best to buy your own flight - their excuse is they are “locked in” for prices as they book well in advance!! Would have thought they have more clout having block booked.

Apr 01,2022I have travelled with One Traveller to North Africa, Europe and the UK, and they are bar far the best single escorted company that I have travelled with. There has been the occasional problem but they were sorted very quickly and effectively by the excellent tour guide.
