This company appears to be in the business of sales and scamming £££ from prospective tenants using dubious tactics in their approach to referencing. What people need to remember is that when a tenant approaches to rent a property they are not entering a credit agreement, they are not getting credit. In essence, because they pay in advance they give the Landlords a form of credit. It is perfectly normal to reference a tenant, to ask for previous landlord details and evidence that you can pay the rent, ID verification, whether that be payslips/work/bank statements. It's normal, and usually straightforward, This company DEMAND 6 months of your personal bank statements, 6 months of your payslips, permission to contact employers, national insurance numbers. There is no need for all of this data, a simple ID check (passport/driving licence), a landlord reference and either the wage slips or the bank statements should suffice, and there's no need for 6 months of your personal data to be sent to a company that may well be selling it on to services such as 'call credit/broadband and insurance providers) It's a terrible situation to find yourself, as a prospective tenant, held to ransom by this company with it's 'give us all of this info or you don't get a house' because there seems to be no quick way to challenge their process. If I was you, reading this, I would submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) to this company to find out exactly what information they are holding about you and what they are up to with your data.
