Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) is a non-profit quasi-state authority that has been providing lower-cost higher education financing solutions since 1981 and free college planning services since 1998. Also provided by RISLA is RIScholarships.org, a free online scholarship search tool to help match students with local scholarships. Additionally, RISLA also offers the Knowledge for College Scholarship, which awards 50 students $2,000 each to help pay for college expenses. For students trying to reduce their interest rates on existing student loans, RISLA also offers low-cost student loan refinancing options. RISLA is with you every step of your college journey, walking you through the college planning process, educating families on obtaining financial aid, and providing tools and resources that help families make informed and responsible borrowing choices to help pay for education.

Any and every time I called or emailed RISLA, I spoke to friendly, very helpful representatives. Mary Ann was amazing! She (and RISLA) made obtaining a student loan for my daughter a lot less stressful because of their help and accessibility.

We have just completed our third loan application with RISLA and they have been great to work with. The loan process is a stressful and sometimes confusing experience, but the people at RISLA always make you feel a little more in control; and are very responsive with any and all questions that might arise. We were in the final phase or our application and had a question about the math. Our representative was extremely helpful and provided an accurate solution. We were able to finish the application with no further issue.

There is no notification if there is an issue with a loan. Luckily they answer the phone and are very helpful. It would be nice if you could get a status update at least weekly so that the process continues to move. Shouldn't take months for this process.
