In 2001, a customer named Jen was building her dream home in southern Michigan and wanted a beautiful stairway. She could see what she wanted in her mind, but the stair parts she wanted were not available through normal outlets. She wanted unique iron balusters with custom box newels. Len thought he could meet her needs, and StairSupplies was born.

Balusters are nice, within two weeks everything I ordered went on sale balusters just delivered 01/20/2020, would not honor sale which most reputable companies would if sale is within 30 days of order. When the items were delivered they were packaged horribly boxes were all open and was told I needed to sign for them would call prior to drop off, no call left open boxes in my driveway. Based on the amount of money they charged for shipping should be packaged better and with a better delivery service. Very disappointed with the overall experience and would not recommend based on poor customer service, delivery and company policies.

I have spent almost 21,000 dollars; $17000 dollars on the stairs themselves and then an additional 4,000 dollars installing and trying to modify my stairs to bring them to code. It can’t be done. I could move into my house and get C of O, but for my stairs. This is the only item holding me up. Viewrail acknowledges they screwed up my design, but they will not manufacture new stairs until I sign a new contract waiving all damages against them (I guess they don’t understand how abide by our first contract). Furthermore it will take them an additional 7 weeks from today......if I sign their new contract! I am going to have to go with a separate local company just to move into my house in a timely manner. They were over a month late in shipping my original stairs even though they happily took my money to lock in the earlier shipping date, only not to meet that date. Then when the stairs arrived they did not meet building code. Once their design/sales team is done with you; you will be hard pressed to get this business to respond to you again.

I was a bit hesitant with the negative customer service reviews, but nothing could have been farther from my experience! I ordered a cable rail system, the customer service was nothing short of AWESOME! Got 3D drawings of my project, was able to make a couple of adjustments prior to ordering after talking to a very knowledgeable company representative and talking through my project. Darby & Morgan were both very pleasant and knowledgeable. After the adjustments were make I got another 3D rendering of the project, approved it and place my order. Everything arrived on time with frequent shipment updates, securely packaged with no damage on any of the pieces. The entire project was numbered and installation was a bit of a challenge (this was my first project of this type) but went together nicely with ample instructions. There was one piece missing and again I was worried because product had been received and money had exchanged hands and the reviews for customer service aren't great. Once again StairSupplies.com came through with flying colors...after a couple of quickly answered emails a piece was mailed FedEx to me and the project was completed with minimal delay. No charge for the part or shipping. To say I am happy with everything from start to finish is an understatement. The few improvements that could be made - provide stain for sealing the ends of the handrails that required me to cut and simplify the packing list (every item was listed, one by one, even the multiples were listed as Qty. 1 no matter how many were shipped) Thanks Stair Supplies, Thanks Darby & Morgan

I was ready to place an order online. That is ... until I clicked on live chat for some clarification on their products. The result -- utter incompetence. First, I ask about custom tread lengths, provided my measurements and the rep replied, "We recommend to go at least a foot over, just so that you can have a little bit of wiggle room." They must take me for a complete moron! Sure. A blind carpenter would need 12 inches of "wiggle room" to cut treads to length. I let that dim answer slide until I asked my second question regarding the custom red oak treads I had planned to purchase, "Do you sell treads with no knots, as most stores do if you're paying this kind of premium." After all, I'm buying "custom" treads and risers. The response (and I quote): "All wood has potential to knots." Of course, but the deeper cuts into the tree don't! And he/she could not answer the question I asked. These people are clearly dim. Or perhaps they need new front-line staff that actually know the products and can speak intelligently about the offering. After that twice-failed and subpar interaction, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. If that is the type of "service" I receive before placing a custom order, I won't deign to see what I'll get once I hand over my money! Annoyed at the entire ordeal, I decided to Google StairSupplies.com and sure enough, I stumbled upon Trustpilot reviews... and I'm so glad I did. I was so irked at the entire scenario and I'm clearly not the only person that is displeased. Literally, go elsewhere! Not worth the headaches.

Very bad service. They missed some parts for my first order. I have to call them. But they keep ask did you check all boxes. Why would I bother to call if I did not check all boxes? Then I need to order something else on my second order. I made the order on 10/28/2019. I waited for 4 days and did not receive my order nor any tracking number. So I wrote a email to them. Then I found the order wasn't even shipped after 4 days I made the order! I paid $14 shipping fee for two day shipping! They didn't even send it after 4 days of the order was made! This is ridiculous! Don't buy from them. Expensive items and bad service!

Warped 'Replacement Wood Treads' and they do not stand by their product and will not replace the order. Be careful with their shady customer service, the salesperson not responding to numerous emails.

Great looking products BUT very unreliable team behind. Ordered stairs 3 months ago and still didn't receive it. Last update I got was "there was a glitch" in the system. If you value your time and money, look at somewhere else.

I ordered nine 1.5" floating stair treads with gloss finish - they arrived exceptionally well packaged (on pallet, with more than sufficient padding) and were finished to an exceptional level of quality. Made my project turn out wonderfully. I'm very pleased with the results.

The StairSupplies website talks a big game about craftsmanship. However, I found the craftsmanship to be lacking since I received two newell posts with nearly 1/16" gaps in the miters on the trim that were patched with filler that soon fell out leaving a visible gap right at eye level. Several of the radiuses on the stair tread nosings were drastically uneven from the top of tread compared to the bottom. They also claim to grain match, however, many of my red oak treads had sharply contrasting sap wood against heartwood which gives them a striped appearance. I had to fix most of these problems myself on the job site which is pretty disappointing considering the cost of the components and the lead time to receive them. Don't be fooled, there is not much craftsmanship involved here. This stuff is obviously blasted out of a factory at high speed.

I did two orders; the first one something happen that took more days than the days that they told me. The posts that they change because a misunderstanding doesn't looks good in the stairs and I can not return them. In order to have a final good looking for my stairs I ordered Stainless Steel posts but because I can not return the ones that are wood I just canceled this second order. Not sure how the stairs is going to look but this store should be take care more of your clients. Probably I do not recommend this store.

It is always a pleasure to find a company that creates a flawless product and stands behind it with a responsive customer service. In building a new railing to authentically match the existing old growth mahogany trim in my 1905 home, I ordered newel posts and railings from Stair Supplies. They arrived on schedule in well packed boxes without a scratch or dent. Unfortunately one of the posts had drastically mismatched colors and grain, which is to be expected with a species of tree that is becoming increasingly rare. Yet when I addressed my dissatisfaction with one of the newel posts, a supervisor named Lyn agreed, apologized, and advised that they would expedite a replacement at no charge ! And rather than returning the offending item at my expense, she suggested I take it to Habitat. I could not have imagined a better resolution, nor a more beautifully designed and built product. Would recommend this company without reservation.

My review is for the cable rail. I had been in business for 35yrs + and had dealt with many company's personnel and products. I have never been more pleased with dealing with the sales force and using their products as I was with Stair Supplies. View Rail is cleverly designed, was extremely well packaged with exceptional instructions written and illustrated by someone with the command of the English language! I would highly recommend

Your product was manufactured and delivered incorrectly to us on 3 separate occasions. Each mistake on your part cost us significant delays resulting in extending on construction time and throwing other vendors off schedule. All of the mistakes were simply a result of poor attention to detail. The final product was only partly completed to our satisfaction - designers purposefully shortened the posts on the ascending staircase, resulting in mismatched glass heights at the transition. You have a good and useful product, but the execution of our project was severely lacking.

I ordered railings from this company. They were exceptionally professional and paid attention to every detail of my order. Thank goodness because I had made a mistake in ordering and they called me immediately to make sure their suspicion was correct. I highly recommend this company.
