Jan 23,2025We made a special journey to the Stokers Furniture store in Chester, a 40-mile round trip. My wife is 8 months pregnant, and due to the sickness she's been experiencing, we had to fit this visit in at the last minute. I run my own business and work until 5pm, so we rushed to the store to view and try out a sofa we had seen online. We arrived at the store at 5:47pm, knowing it closed at 6pm. We quickly located the sofa we wanted to see and didn’t require any assistance, intending to leave within minutes before closing time. However, the staff’s attitude made us feel incredibly unwelcome. They were already standing at the door in their coats, and it was clear we were an inconvenience to them. At exactly 5:50pm, a tall gentleman approached us and told us we needed to leave the store as it was closing. His tone was not polite; in fact, he was rude and almost forceful in his manner. I explained that we had traveled some distance specifically to view this sofa and asked if we could just have 5 minutes to look, but he was dismissive, repeating that we needed to leave. His attitude was disgraceful—he showed no interest in why we were there or what we were looking for. Instead, he seemed more concerned with ushering us out as quickly as possible. What made this experience even worse was the complete lack of empathy or friendliness. My wife is visibly pregnant, yet there was no acknowledgment of this or any understanding of our situation. Safe to say, I will not be spending my £3,000 on the Claudia sofa we had come to see. I was in my work clothes (I’m a builder), and I can’t help but wonder if I was judged or discriminated against because of how I was dressed. Regardless, the lack of professionalism from the staff was appalling. Standing at the door in their coats at 5:50pm, clearly eager to leave, is simply unacceptable. Stokers Furniture has lost a customer, and I wouldn’t recommend the Chester store to anyone based on this experience. Stokers, if you read this review, please check your cctv footage in store and retrain your staff on how to approach customers. This intimidating attitude is disgraceful.

Jan 21,2025We have recently been in the market for a dining table,chairs and sideboard and we are fortunate to have a Stokers showroom in the city. We have previously had an excellent experience when we purchased our three piece suite there a couple of years ago. I wasn’t to be disappointed the sales assistant (Joe Tudor) approached us to see if we required any assistance without being pushy and provided a lot of advice. We returned a short while later with a clear idea of what we wanted, again Joe helped us by providing us with a detailed, very competitive quote so we ordered the furniture. So in summary great service and great prices - what is there not to like.

What we especially liked was that once we had spoken to Scott Dupree and told him what we were looking for, he showed us where everything we were looking for was located. He then left us to wander at our leisure and told us to come to him if we had any questions or needed any help (which we did a number of times). We didn’t feel pressurised at all. This was service as it should be!
