The absolute WORST customer service. Will never use them again. It's only about the money, not the customer or the tutors. Do not use!!!!

I am writing to warn you about using your cards in this website. I got a very expensive bill from them for something I didn’t even know what was it, and I tried to communicate with them they didn’t answer me.

In a year on this site, I have gotten nothing but scam inquiries. The algorithms are skewed to favor tutors who have been on the site for years, rather than by credentials or qualifications. I applied to over 100 posted requests without a single response. Yet I receive email inquiries each week which are scams. Not one legitimate request for help in a year, and I have seven years of tutoring experience with some of highest rates of success with ACT tutoring in the United States (based on actual numbers). The site is rigged, and filled with illegal activity.

If there's a theme and common denominator to the reviews, as is the case here, there's probably a problem. I created a tutoring profile for Wyzant, which makes it abundantly clear that it is not an employer but a marketplace for tutors. I have worked as a well-rated and liked teacher for over 30 years and have worked successfully for three tutoring companies (F2F and online) over the past 20 years. Wyzant seemed to be a good tutoring company worth looking into. I should have come to Trustpilot before I made that assessment. After I spent some time creating and posting a profile according to Wyzant's requirements, I was asked to rewrite my introduction in a follow up email to make the introduction read like a letter to a potential new client. I did. A few days later, I received the note below, which was gobsmackingly strange. I have never had an experience anything like this. I am mystified by Wyzant's protocols and choices, including the choice to simple deactivate an account in their "tutoring marketplace' during the onboarding process and to then direct that applicant to a recondite reference to what reads like legal writing. That said, given the reviews of tutors and students who had invested far more time, energy, money, and trust than I have only to be deactivated or otherwise shafted and mistreated, I feel like someone was watching out for me on this one. Do your due diligence, and look elsewhere. ----------------------------------------------------------- After reviewing your submission, we have determined that Wyzant is not a good fit for your tutoring services according to paragraph 18(a) of the Independent Tutor Agreement. As a result, we have deactivated your account.

I spent over $800 on a tutor to help me with my Capstone portfolio. What a waste of time and money. I am so pissed off. I contacted her and told her I wanted at least half my money back. I failed my Capstone portfolio and had to do the whole thing over again. I should not only sue my tutor but Wyzant for hiring incompetent morons! I AM PISSED OFF!!!!!!

Nice platform with online tools where you can find tutors on almost any subject. First lesson is free if you don't find the right fit. Well qualified teachers are available at affordable rates. I would have given a 5 stars if their service fees were not that high. They charge service fees from both tutors and students.

This gig platform peddles tutors who teach you things, usually very decent and well-educated individuals. They charge a whopping 9% of all earnings from said tutors. Just another scam artist platform really. Their onboarding and tutoring backend is horrific. They take forever to approve you and act like they're doing you a favor by working for them. When it's entirely the other way around.

I have utilized the wyzant platform for two of my children and it’s really hit or miss with tutors. To be honest, you should expect that most tutors will be all about the money and not care one iota about your child and their success. Many tutors have inflated rates at $200-$500 per hour and their experience doesn’t warrant those rates. The tutors blame Wyzant for their high rates because they claim Wyzant charges them for each lesson 25 per cent of the hourly rate in addition to the 9 per cent you get charged as a service fee. Again, all about the money. Tutors don’t check in with the student to see how they are coming along and succeeding when it’s outside of the lesson time. They don’t ask them how the exam went or what kind of score they got. Pure and simple. Most tutors don’t care about your child’s success at all. Don’t expect it. Costumer service deflects all issues relating to tutors with “they’re not employees” and “it’s a free market” so we can’t tell them to care. But, if unsatisfied with the first lesson they do honor their claim and you’re not charged for it and they will help to get another tutor. In summary, if you’re looking for a tutoring service that has a human side that cares about your child Wyzant is not it. If you’re looking for a tutor and company who doesn’t give a damn about the human side of business and functions only as a money oriented operation then you’ll be fine. Bottom line: you can find a good tutor at Wyzant is you search hard but not sure you’ll find tutors that really care about the final results of their work.

The idea is good, and the website nicely designed. Tutors are, for the most part, very good. Mine is excellent. However, the overall service leaves something to be desired. First, 9% (charged for every single lesson) is an exorbitant fee, and at least half of that money should go to the teachers. In addition, reaching customer service is a nightmare, and communications downright poor, despite such high fees. Last but not least, the most important issue for me is the inability to download my recordings. My paid lesson, with the agreement of the teacher should be kept permanently. Every other similar service does. Wyzant deletes after a measly 30 days, and otherwise I cannot keep it.

Absolute fraud. The tutor can charge you for whatever amount he wants and you can’t do anything about it. This tutor didn’t give me the help I need in lesson so I told her to not charge me and end the lesson because I didn’t get any help from her. What does she do? She makes it a cancelled lesson and receives payment on my behalf/ I was ready and I didn’t let my card charge it! So jokes on you Wyzant and your stupid system

Absolutely fraud, they make you tutor x amount of hours to make even 50% of your pay (sliding scale). Then they will cancel without notice and attack you. I spent weeks trying to figure out why I was deleted to never get a response. Finally I went to the BBB and filed a complaint and was able to get all my money back.

Dealing with Wyzant is like taking a deal with the devil. They use double speak to claim your intellectual property without pay, they force you to violate sales tax law, and they won't even pre-auth a student's payment for lessons scheduled in advance. You end up being liable for $2500+/state you have clients in due to the tax compliance issues and they take 34% commission if you get paid at all. Another thing, since Wyzant claims to be a marketplace technically the tutor can be sued for any data breaches. Not only that, but you have to keep your email, desktop browser, and phone open at all times as important notifications do not appear consistently in any one place. The one nice thing about Wyzant is that you can set your own rate while many other tutoring services pay you less than you can make in fast food these days. I get the complaints from the pupil perspective about unprepared tutors, but there is a balance. Especially for minors, parents want to have a tutor that can help a student improve all their grades. This incentivizes tutors to list subjects that they may be marginally qualified for which then means they either have to charge a higher hourly rate that students don't think they can afford (and may not if the tutor is poor) or try winging it.

I requested a tutor to help me in accounting. Before I could even speak with someone they canceled my account and told me they don’t do tax services. I didn’t need help with taxes. I needed a tutor to assist with an accounting class. If they would of asked. They would of known that. Very unprofessional.

Worst experience ever. They operate like snail mail. Takes three days to add your Pymt method, which there’s no notification of…. So, you’ve sent all these requests and four days not a chirp. Now three days after the fact, I get a notification that my card has been added. No $h|t Sherlock…. I did it three days ago…. I’ve already reached out to Varsity Tutors. Phenomenal customer service from the beginning.

Wyzant does not investigate ethical complaints of tutors acting outside of professional contracts. I just experienced billing not in accordance to tutor policy and multiple emotional and personal to my personal Contacts. Wyzant acts in the autonomy of their verified tutors. They have not responded to the limited feedback submittals. Beware

Horrible experience. My child was sick the night before the session. Tutor never sent a confirmation the day before and never messaged the day of the session. Reached out to customer service who basically said too bad, nothing they can do. Tutor charged me a $65 late fee. This is a greedy, heartless company. Never use them!
