Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.
Alexandria library software is easy to use. It helps keep track of books and makes the check in and check out process simple.
We upgraded to the online version this fall and have not had a good experience. It takes more clicks to accomplish things. The researcher is much less user friendly. The cataloging doesn't let me do things I did before. The fact that you can't simply click on authors or series in researcher is a huge issue that makes the product much less helpful.
Alexandria has been very useable even for the inexperienced cataloger. A very powerful yet easy and verist program to operate and the tech support is unparalleled to any other type of support. Always ready with the answer to what may seem mundane questions. Keep up the good work
I have worked with Alexandria in two schools. I have nothing but good things to say about their circulation system (We don't use Textbook Tracker.) Any time I have any questions, the tech department is overwhelmingly helpful, professional, and knowledgeable about any topic. The reports module has everything I could ever want a report on and more. I first experienced Alexandria in a previous school and was delighted to see it was in place here when I came eight years ago. Last year I switched to the hosted site and it was seamless. I feel very confident having my data stored by Alexandria. I would recommend Alexandria to anyone!
I have been using Alexandria for 15 years now. It took my county a long time to upgrade to the online version, but I am glad we did. It makes cataloguing and upkeep much easier. I have had minimal problems with the system through the years. It is sometimes difficult to locate and format the reports exactly as I want them. However, I have never been completely unable to figure things out. Customer service is usually friendly and helpful (luckily, I have not had to call often). They have been very good about working with our county librarians to clear up problems we might have.
It has been my experience over the past 10 years that Alexandria is a very reliable system. Your tech support folks are super helpful and always wiling to troubleshoot when I have problems. There are so many aspects to Alexandria that even after using it for 10 years I feel I am just scratching the surface of all that it offers.
I have found Alexandria easy to use and very proficient at keeping track of materials and has so many useful reports. I would recommend it to any library, and I have been in this field for almost twenty years!
The staff is very accomodating when asked for help. This program is usually user friendly but since the upgrade I personally have had more trouble than in the past. Very thankful for friendly staff !
I have found Alexandria to be easy to learn and very helpful in maintaining the records of the library. The many report options has been extremely useful in managing the collection. Alexandria support always has excellent customer service, as well.
I hardly ever have problems with Alexandria, especially the current school year
Alexandria library software does the basics just fine. It has many additional features that I have not taken time to learn--such as the option to add patron reviews to an item record. The customer service is what has impressed me the most. When I've had trouble or just couldn't remember how to do a certain task, the representatives who answer the phone have helped promptly and effectively.
We have had very little problems with Alex. Calling technical support has been a pleasant experience and except for one time when the server went down they have been able to solve any and all problems quickly and efficiently.
We just upgraded this year to the web version & honestly it has its ups and downs. But I will say Alexandria is working to resolve all our issues. Sometimes it seems the issues aren't corrected as quickly as we would like. They do listen to new ideas on the software and they continue to make improvements on the features. Support is always there to answer your questions and walk you through how to do anything you need. No software is perfect and it is impossible to please everyone 100% but Alexandria does strive to reach that goal! I would (and I do) recommend this software to other school districts.
I fought to get Alexandria in our school system. I have been very pleased with my choice. There have been some glitches but there always are when you are working with a computerized program. Love the system.
Very dependable and I like the fact that it is child friendly for students as well.
We heard about Alex at a users group meeting when those of us who had other software programs noticed that there was one group who always seemed happy about their choice. After talking to them, we made the switch and have been very pleased with the program ever since.
There are many kid-friendly and librarian-friendly features in the Alexandria product we use! However, there are, as elsewhere stated, too many distracting choices for my students, and too many repeated actions required of me in cataloging and circulation. My work environment prevents me from using the tech support, which is a bummer; at least the COMPanion online reference has been helpful to an extent.
In my 40+ years career in Library Science I have worked with many different software systems. I have rated Alexandria with 5 out of 5 stars for excellence in customer service, user friendliness, comprehensive program services at a reasonable price.
Alexandria has all the features I need and some of which I have yet to take advantage. I especially like how easy it is to add items with Alex. Tech support is very friendly, but I rarely need them.

Oct 12,2016I do like Alexandria but I find that when the company does,"updates" to make things "better" for us,,, it usually isn't. I never know what is changing until I'm trying to do something and It won't do it... I'm not very tech savvy so I have to get a tech person..... I hate that we used to get a books picture when we entered it in computer and now I have to go find it on another site and drag it over. But all in all I do like the way the Alex program works.
