Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.

Alexandria is easy to use for checking out and book drops. When adding books scan the UPC and it will align with the Library of Congress and add the information on the book. Students can be added by uploading a spreadsheet. It has easy to follow tutorials. The only problem I have it is difficult to export books then to import to another school in our account.

When given the task of organizing the inventory for the 10 campuses in our East Region, it seemed quite a daunting task. Various excel spreadsheets, smartsheets, etc needed to be combined all into one place. Alexandria was only the 2nd online inventory system I looked at and after a few demo's I was sold and quickly convinced my management team that this would be the system for us. Your tech's are excellent to work with and I love the 24 hour help line!! Recently I was doing a unit order and when I compiled the teachers requests, I was able to compare their requests with my inventory in Alexandria, let them know what books they already had on their campus and which ones I could transfer. One campus said they couldn't find one of the titles and referring back to Alexandria I was able to tell her in which classroom they were stored. Having inventory all in one place, gave me the ability to see what we had available and do transfers between campuses and was able to cut the cost of our order and save over $100!

I am not officially trained as a Librarian/Media Specialist, but have 11 years experience as a Library Aide. Since I have started using Alexandria, I have been the only person, volunteering in our school library. So, I am forced to learn as I go. Sometimes it is easy to find the tool, report, etc. that I am looking for other times, not so much. The fact that I have a limited number of hours in the Library each day, makes it harder to get familiar with and use the program proficiently. That said, I have found many of the features to be useful and user friendly. I have also found Customer Support to be very knowledgeable and committed to resolving any issues I may be having. I would recommend the Alexandria software to other schools/Librarians for both its features/capabilities and support..

We use Alexandria not only to track library books but all of our tech devices. Makes everything easier to keep up with.

I first reviewed Alexandria in 1995 when I worked in a HS. I did not think the interface (at that time) was the best available for HS students. Six years ago, I began working with Alexandria at a K-8 school. The interface had improved significantly; I loved the access interface for the K-8 students and thought it would be great now for HS students. The options of Scout, Researcher, or Mobile offer suitable ones for different levels. I like the easy of adding cover images and the fact that the cover images will automatically populate overnight. Almost all of the backend (librarian admin interface) options are great but I do have a few quibbles: 1. The MARC record does not appropriately add the call number to the 082 field. In Alexandria, the call number is associated only with the copy(ies) not with the title. Not correct. 2. After cataloging a group of books, it is hard to locate the records unless one writes down the barcode #s/range. When busy or interrupted (as often happens in a K-8 school setting), it is hard to pull up the most recently cataloged books for label (spine, etc.) printing. 3. It is a pain to find success books by barcode (when needing to adjust/update a record/copy/call #) since, the find screen always reverts to highlighting of the title field. [Perhaps there is a fix for this, but I haven't found it). 4. Adjusting the margins for printing of spine labels can be tricky and I haven't yet found the perfect solution. But, overall, I would choose Alexandria over other OPAC systems.

I have been using Alexandria for 10 years now. Recently we upgraded to the all web based version. I feel that it isn't as easily used as in the past; however, Alexandria is great with support and has taken some of our suggestions in the past and implemented them.

Very easy cataloging system . Great support if you run into difficulties . I have not gotten to use it with the student yet as we are still in the process of completing it .. but so far so good 👍

The tech support office is great but as a new librarian, the site is a little difficult to navigate on my own. A hard copy manual would be useful to have. It would be very nice to have some tech support in the field where someone could actually sit down and explain the program without doing it over the phone.

Our school system has always used Alexandria so I don't have experience with others systems. But it does everything we need it to, the website and customer support are fantastic and we love the colorful user-friendly interface. Never had any problems and we've been using it for close to twenty years.

For most checking out and inventory purposes, Alexandria Library Automation Software works great. I wish it were easier to change book information (such as call numbers) in large batches. I also wish the system Alexandria uses to search for book information when entering new books was inclusive of more publishers.

We have enjoyed Alexandria in our library. I have used an earlier before in another school! This is a newer version. I wish the things like Reports had remained on the main tool bar instead of hiding it under tools. I still am working on figuring out where some of my less common functions are but I love that when a patron comes to ask about what they have checked out, you can pull up their name and click in the same window "details" and they have an answer to what and when! Thanks Alexandria!

Alexandria made my transition from the classroom to the library amazingly smooth. They have great customer service and tech support that are always available to walk me through any issues. The software is very user friendly, my student workers use it with ease! There are various components that can be used for any aspect of the library. I wouldn't use anything else!

From the sales department to customer service, Alexandria (Companion Corp.) has been great to work with. They've always been quick to help with updates and to troubleshoot any questions I've had. I have had no regrets signing up with Alexandria and plan to stay with until I retire.

There are some tasks in Alexandria that you do not complete very often. And even though they have amazing videos to explain almost everything you would need to do, the technical assistance department is always willing to help walk you through whatever you need. Even if you need to call multiple times. They never make you feel like your question is not worth their time.

As a new school librarian, I had little training from my district. Learning the Alexandria program was very easy. Any time had a question I could find the answer in a search, a video, or I knew I could call to receive professional support. Thank you!!

Alexandria took a giant step forward in library automation with not only a web bars platform with remote access but also in its creation of an app for their researcher program that gives patrons and students accessibility to the library's holdings from the comfort of their own portable device. This feature alone has been an amazing asset providing all the students in our school simultaneous access to our school library from anywhere in the school or at home.

The library software is functional and clean. Importing of students could be a little easier but all in all it's a great program. If I were to fix anything I'd clean up the graphics on the admin side and bring a modern look to it.
