The Fish Pie is stunning! 35 minutes in the oven and the most perfect meal. We don’t eat ready meals because they are always a disappointment, not this one! After a long, tough day and not wanting to prepare a meal or go out, I picked it up. I thought it was a little pricey, but soon changed my mind when I tasted it. Thank you Charlie Bigham.
This is a fantastic cookbook, covering from starters, drinks, right through to puddings. With a lovely array of different recipes, I will be trying loads of them for my family. The photos of the meals are mouth watering and honest, just shows that cookbook dishes have the juices/ sauces oozing over the pots. Shows the amount of time for preparation which is do useful, to the amount each meal will serve. An insight to Charlie Bigham’s life is a wonderful addition. This cookbook would make a lovely present at any time of the year.
First timer with Charlie Bingham’s. The lasagne was beautiful, layered perfectly and very very tasty. Easy packaging and simple instructions. 😀
Butter chicken curry with pilau rice , this is by far the best ready made meal I have ever had. From the packaging to the actual cooking and the quality of ingredients and the quantity for 2 people everything amazing. Can't wait to buy another
I have been buying these meals for a lot of years they have been consistently great. The meals are expensive but they are worth every penny. Some of my favourites are the butter chicken, tikka masala, beef bourguignon With dauphinose potato’s and the Molton chocolate pudding. Cannot wait to try more of the meals as I’m sure they will be great
I bought first Charlie Bingham Fish Pie for my husband about 2 years ago. He loved it. Said there was loads of fish. May I add that I buy him pie for two as he loves fish pie. I make my own but didn’t have any pre-prepared. He rated Charlie Bingham as in par with mine. Last few times he hasn’t rated Charlie Bingham as good as first time. Tonight I was not home so bought him Charlie Bingham Fish Pie for two. He rated it 4 out of ten. Said there wasn’t much fish in it. At a cost of approx £10 I think that is disgraceful. I WILL NOT be buying Charlie Bingham again - any of their products. So disappointed. I wish there was a direct email to write to as I feel they need to address the changes in recipes.
Their Spaghetti Bolognese gave me a much needed spring in my step. The pasta was thin and soft, with the Ragu packed with lots of flavour and a good balance between pasta and Ragu generally. Unlike other spaghetti Bolognese meals on the market, this was not watery or runny, which made it perfect.
Loved the fish pie ingredients excellent, the fish was so nice, the potato and the sauce was very tasty. The pie cooked well in oven the timings on the packet for cooking were spot on. So easy to cook in the wooden tray so convenient too. Thank you for an excellent meal.
I have had 2 Charlie Bighams meals both chicken jalfrezi and credit where credit is due excellent 10 out of 10 ,you can certainly tell it is fresh ingredients with no preservatives which is why it has a short shelf life and not suitable for freezing . All the packaging is recycled. Well done Charlie Bigham
There's a taste of quality in Charlie Bigham's fish pie. The generous portion size is ample for two, with lots of tasty fish, silky smooth mashed potato, and a sauce to die for, this is a restaurant quality meal. It's ready to eat after just 35 minutes in the oven. Sustainably packaged with minimal use of plastic, this delicious dish has been on the menu in our house each week for quite some time.
We have enjoyed a variety of meals now and can honestly say they are delicious, affordable and easy to turn out. We were initially reluctant to use pre-prepared meals but they are so authentic and as busy parents these have made the difference- thank you!
I have never been a fan of ready meals as they were always poorly made. At Charlie Bighams how wrong was I. The Currys are a taste of food paradise with rice. Some would call them fakeaways but they definitely keep me from the takeaway order. I have also tried the fish pie a British legend that was very tasty and something to savour. A recepie has no soul but the Bingham chefs definitely brought some sole to the fish pie. I have just continued my Charlie Bighams journey with the smoked haddock gratin. Again a delight to savour. You can't buy happiness but you can buy good food 😋
I have tried quite a few of these meals for two. My favourites are butter chicken & breton chicken. The chicken is soft & good quality. There is enough for two people.
For some, bread and butter pudding would not constitute a luxury dessert, not so me. Back in 1983 at a country house hotel near Barmouth I had a nouvelle cuisine bread and butter pudding that has served as my benchmark ever since. I have never had anything that equalled it until tonight. Many times I have tried the bread and butter desserts from different sources, and always I have found them coming up short. Charlie Bigham’s has managed to equal the pleasure of that long-gone meal, from the local Waitrose - not from Bontddu Hall Hotel that sadly burned down a few decades ago. Soft, with creamy custard and beautifully flavoured. The brioche really light. Thanks for the clotted cream tip, too. Try it, I can make no higher recommendation.
Fish pie ... inconsistent flavour. Some too much salt, some none. Some have bitter after taste? Regarding your response below .. your request is essentially asking me to do your work for you! Your remit is to produce consistent food products. Please don't ask the customer to support you in this ... I won't buy again.
I was looking forward to this, but alas, though the chicken was tasty and well presented, there was barely enough to feed two people. The fragrant rice was fairly ordinary, I could detect nothing fragrant about it at all. I'm a great fan of the fish pie, which serves two generous portions, so the meal quantity was a little on the slender side to be honest.
As I am a single person I find all Charlie Bigham's meals delicious and inexpensive. If I had to purchase all the ingredients he uses they would result in being more expensive with guaranteed waste. I usually have four per week.
Lasagne and chicken tikka curry are delightful. I only find their prices a little high, in my opinion, it's too expensive for a ready meal. I was fortunate to buy them at the discounted Tesco club card rate, so it wasn't too expensive.
I have been a fan of CB curries for a few years, and always said they are the next best thing to a takeaway. Sadly, the last few times we have bought their curries, the decline is quite noticeable. The chicken used to be marinated thighs, but now all that is in there are the very tips of mini fillets, the cheap, chuck away part of the breast with the large artery in it. The sauces have also taken a major nosedive, from being fragrant, thick and well spiced, to now being watery and nondescript. I also see that on other reviews CB are saying they haven't changed the kind of chicken used, or their supplier, which is absolute nonsense. Also, I emailed their customer service to ask about this, and to see if it was a one off and they did not bother to reply. My partner bought a curry this weekend, out of the blue and it was really poor and no longer worth their inflated asking price. In the race to make ever more profit while simultaneously giving us less, you are losing customers.

Dec 11,2024Thank you so much for reinstating your sadly missed chicken pie inside ceramic pot with that dome of flaky pasty and big chunks of breast meat. The tasty sauce flavoured with tarragon, generous amount of chicken & sliced mushrooms is so much better than the changed version which was greatly inferior to the original recipe. In fact, as disappointed customers we stopped buying the pies, but now feel delighted you’ve gone back to what worked so well for customers.
