Jan 16,2020I received excellent advice from Tommy at Cornerstone Ltd regarding a stamp duty rebate he was confident I could claim. Tommy was always efficient and responsive in our communications and a pleasure to deal with. The best part of it was that I did indeed receive a substantial rebate on stamp duty I had paid some time ago. I was very pleased with the entire process and outcome.

Apr 16,2019Cornerstone helped us reclaim incorrectly paid SDLT from a remortgage transaction that also involved changing the ownership of my business partner's half of a rental house into his wife's name. We'd heard that we may not need to pay SDLT in this situation but despite our research and repeated questioning of our solicitor on this, we were advised that it was very clear - we'd have to pay. Some months on I heard of Cornerstone through my job working for a property developer, as they'd helped us with SDLT there. On contacting them about the above situation they were very clear from the start that we should not have paid SDLT, and explained why in easy to understand terms. They drafted a letter to HMRC setting out our case for repayment and submitted it, keeping us informed of progress. In due course we have now had a refund from them! We are extremely pleased as we thought we'd have to write off this amount. We had previously assumed that a solicitor would have the correct knowledge to advise on these issues, but now know we need to be working with a tax specialist like Cornerstone in future.

Apr 05,2019A pleasure to deal with. I was lucky to bump into David at a property event when I'd just completed on an investment property. I told David what I had bought and the situation with the property and he immediately identified that I should not have paid any SDLT (let alone 3% that I'd already paid!). He had one of his team call me the following day to take care of the paperwork and they handled it from there. A few months later and I've just received a full SDLT refund from HMRC. I'm delighted and would recommend Cornerstone to anyone who required such assistance.
