About us The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
Our mission We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

She spent two hours of her time (after work hours!!!) taking me through the process, what the membership offers and how it can benefit us as a company whilst doing her own research on us to ensure we are suitable partners. This was helpful as we did not want to become a member to an organisation that did not match our standard of work. The inspection was arranged within a week after confirming a date and the result following within the same day. If you ever need or wondered what FMB does/offers I highly recommend speaking to Suzanne!!!

Jan 10,2023You claim that builders listed with the Federation of Master Builders (FMB have passed a professional vetting process. Really?? Based on our experience, I simply cannot believe that. We used builders that are currently registered with you and it’s a nightmare. Builders from hell – that is what they are. It took more than 10 months to do a simple two-room extension. They were off-site for weeks doing other jobs. We were already forced to dish out £3000 on our new roof to have their shoddy work corrected. There were tiles missing, the ridge tiles were loose or not even fastened and the Velux leaked because of missing flashing. We have photographic evidence. Now the drain is blocked which caused the whole new wooden floor to flood – ruined. The drainage person sent by the insurance to unblock the drain described the workmanship on our new drain as “shocking” and “beyond belief”. There should be at least 3 manholes – there is nothing. The 110mm soil pipe has a 400mm section missing! The gradient is wrong. The entire drain will have to be replaced. Your builders are nowhere to be found. They ignore letters, phone calls, and e-mails. You call these people vetted, master builders?? We are literally many thousands of pounds out of pocket and your “master builders” have gone missing. Thank you for responding. You are missing the point though. This review is about FMB - not the bad builders. There is an issue with your vetting process. Making honest mistakes is one thing but leaving a 400mm section out of a drain pipe is not a mistake - that is sabotage. My question remains, how can builders like that pass your vetting process?

Jan 06,2023Total lack of quality leads the odd pointing job I think I only 2 jobs in the hole 10+ years I was with you and they were for pointing, all my work has been off my recommendations you have not really done anything for my business, but I do get a magazine every few months. Keep your customers happy and people come to you. Only thing I would suggest is you have someone in the builders area who liases with them every so often passes on leads to the builders who need it and when they busy visa versa . Just honest opion and feed back don't help . Ater all that time all you have to say is I owe a payment not we don't you to leave it's not good enough we will do better . Disapointing.
