Really good! I recently took part in the Wildlife Conservation Expeience with the Big 5 in South Africa and it wa some of the best experiences of my life. It was the first time I had traveled to another county alone, however, everyone I met was extremely friendly and welcoming and it was very easy to settle in quick. The work we did on the reserve was interesting and challenging and allowed us all a great opportunity to go on lots of game drives and see all the animals in the park. I also used the trip for my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and oyster was extremely valuable in helping me to get it all signed off. Whilst I was there I was also able to go bungee jumping and cage diving with sharks which was amazing!!
Brilliant service. Friendly staff. Informative and constantly on hand to answer questions and quash any reservations you may have about travel. Would happily recommend travelling with Oyster.
Overall my experience with the Oyster project with Romanian wildlife was great. Prior to the trip, the Oyster team was prompt in responding to any queries I had and the online My Oyster account was a great resource giving lots of helpful information about the country, project, and what to expect. Even though I'm a fairly seasoned traveler it was helpful in preparing me for my trip. During travel the Oyster accommodation was also great. The transfer to and from the airport went smoothly. Since the original housing for this project was full, Oyster was able to find a room for me at a local hotel which nice and only a few minutes walk to the pickup site for daily transportation. The on-site Oyster representative was excellent and helped everything go smoothly during my volunteer time on the project. I could tell he was very invested in the project and cares about its success and wants the volunteers to have a great experience on the project as well as with their time in Romania. I was also very impressed with the general layout of the sanctuary as it showed that everything was done to limit excessive handling and exposure to the wildlife so that they may return to as natural a state as possible. I think it is great there are two causes being addressed here, obviously the animal rescue, but also the reduction of food waste as that is how the sanctuary acquires most of its food for the animals is from local grocery stores donating expired food. Highlights were the personal orientation, getting to know the stories and background of the animals and being able to observe the animals during work time. Being allowed the extra opportunities at the sanctuary was great, as was exploring the town in free time and the included weekend trip.
I chose oyster worldwide to help me on my work holiday experience. I was not recommended to apply for my visa until quite a while after I signed up and was accepted by oyster worldwide and I actually had to ask my advisor if I should apply. I was told to apply in November with my leave date being in mid January. The approval of my visa was delayed and I communicated this with my advisor and did everything in my power to try to speed up the process by calling the border office all the while communicating with my advisor about what was going on. My visa was not approved in time for my leave date and I was told by my advisor that I would not be able to receive a refund of any amount even though I did not get to go on my work/holiday through no fault of my own but my circumstances out of my control. I would not recommend this service to anyone and would instead advise them to do the research on their own and save the money that was spent on this service which provided me with minimal help, and assistance for the amount of money I spent on it.
They are a great organization! The support prior to departure, during departure, on the ground, and even after returning home is impeccable. I would recommend a program through Oyster Worldwide to anyone who wants a fun and growing experience.
Hands down, a fantastic experience. I was thrilled by the entire trip. The accommodation was brilliant, I feel like it was worth more than I paid for. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, despite the language barrier, and the room was so well heated, and very comfy. It was equipped with a coffee machine and a fridge, too! The trip rep, Razvan, was so friendly, and made sure we were all happy and have everything we needed. He would contact us each day to make sure we knew what we had to do. Any questions, problems, or advice we needed was given freely. And with plenty of local knowledge! The oyster organisers were also incredibly helpful and sorted out all the practicalities, such as airport pick up and last minute planning. The support given before, during and after the trip was brilliant! The volunteer project itself was an amazing experience, and it was a privilege to work there. The sanctuary workers were lovely and friendly; although many didn't understand English, it was never too big a problem. We also had transport to and from the sanctuary each day, and the driver was always bang on time and very good at getting us through the manic traffic safely! All in all, a fantastic experience. Oyster has been the best travel operator I have used so far.
It was really helpful to have Anne there guiding me through the process and making it as smooth as possible 24/7.
I have recently returned from an extraordinary experience, volunteering with elephants and wildlife with my 14 year old son. It was a rewarding, enriching and nourishing experience which I recommend without hesitation. Thank you to Anne from Oyster Worldwide for her support and genuine encouragement from our first point of contact through to coming home. Excellent.
It's always a bit scary when you decide to work abroad. I wasn't really sure how to go about it but Jon was there for me and made the process very simple. I had the best year of my life working in Canada and if it wasn't for Oyster I would still be working in England. I now work for TUI as an overseas rep and I'm really enjoying myself and getting to visit amazing places all around the world. Thank you Oyster for helping me find me feet. Julia Roberts.
I spent the last three months on the Oyster Programme in Coyhaique (Chilean Patagonia), teaching English in a local school and living with a host family. Overall I can say I've had an amazing experience and was very content with the organization. Oyster was very well organized, the staff was friendly and the local representative in Coyhaique was always there to help. We really got immersed in the culture, learned a lot of Spanish and enjoyed our time! Also Patagonia is a great place to explore and the Oyster Programme is perfect for that. Very recommendable for everyone who wants to improve their Spanish, get to know the Chilean lifestyle and is into outdoor activities :)
This was an extremely educating and amazing experience. The station was well run with everyone kind and helpful, taking time to explain in detail to the volunteers the reasons and aims of the project. For me the simplicity of the accommodation and it's location was exactly as I imagined. The food provided by local families was healthy and plentiful. I have no hesitation in recommending this project to anyone seeking to help preserve these amazing turtles.
I had an amazing experience using Oyster to live in Coyhaique, Chile for three months. Oyster prepared me for the upcoming adventure before I landed in Chile. While in Chile, I learned so much Spanish and had an amazing time in my assigned school. You are given a part-time schedule, but I became good friends with my teacher and ended up being in the school almost full-time because I enjoyed teaching, my students, and the other professors so much. My only problem while in Chile was that my host family and I did not fit well together. With the help of Jacqueline I was able to move into another home and I now consider my host mom and brother as family. I would recommend the program in Coyhaique for someone who is interested in becoming fully immersed in the culture and society of a small, remote city. If you are passionate about the outdoors and nature then Coyhaique is a great choice given the ability to travel to amazing places like the Marble Caves. Our volunteer group also took a week long road trip to El Chaltén, El Calafate, and Torres del Paine which are accessible from Coyhaique by plane or car.
I have been on many volunteering projects but wanted to do something special for my 40 40th birthday. I got in touch with Oyster , who not only helped me choose the right project but assisted throughout even making contact whilst I was away. The experience throughout surpassed my expectations and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect...my only negative experience was having an allergic reaction to ant bites which no one can be held responsible! , fellow volunteers, coordinators and staff at the projects were incredibly concerned and very caring which helped me immensely get through it. I cannot thank everyone enough for the experiences which I will never forget.
I would highly recommend Oyster Worldwide. Very organised , provided me with lots of information for my trip to South Africa and answered all of my questions. Never left me wondering or worrying about anything whilst I was abroad. Also very easy to contact and helpful.
I went on a trip to south africa (Riverside Wildlife Rehabilitation Center) and had an amazing time there. About oyster: Really great communication, provided me with all important Information and helped me with all of my questions. I would definitely do it again and recommend the organization!
Excellent service replied to all our questions in the emails within hours of sending them. Very well organized had a pick up ready and waiting on time from the hotel we stayed at. Highly recommended
Oyster Worldwide were a great help, they have lots of helpful information and tips to get you ready for your adventure. They were friendly and helpful and guided us every step of the way during the lead up to our trip. I will definitely be having a look into some of their other trips.
Honestly the best thing I've ever done! I did the big 5 trip in South Africa and if I were to recommend anything, it would be to stay longer than 2 weeks if possible! Oyster were great and so helpful, I would definitely plan a trip through them again.

Mar 13,2018My contact during my time in South Africa was Anne Smellie. She was very welcoming and encouraging. As I had gone to South Africa through a different organisation which I soon realised; they falsely advertised the work that the volunteers would be doing, Oyster helped immediately with finding me placements in South Africa in the veterinary experience field. I had two placements, one in Port Elizabeth and the other in East London. Both great experiences, although if volunteers are looking more for a conservation experience, then Kwantu game reserve is a better choice. As I’m choosing a career in veterinary medicine, the veterinary internship in East London was brilliant, I really recommend it! You gain experience in both wildlife and domestic. On both placements, everyone is very friendly and it’s great to meet other people coming from all over the world with the same goals or interests as you. Oyster helped me with finding transport from one placement to the other which was a big relief, especially when you’re new to a country! Even after a year of my placement, I am still able to contact Oyster for information and they responded straight away. I have travelled a lot with difference placement organisations before, but after travelling with Oyster, I would choose them time and time again! They’re very well organised, what they advertise is correct and they’re incredibly helpful!
