Aug 31,2017Very helpful people - would have been nervous to book a volunteering scheme on my own but trusted the company as very professional and resources online answer all questions. Very amenable and I went to the office site to have a private presentation of photos of the project before going, they are all very enthusiastic and friendly and put any qualms at ease (especially as they have been on the projects themselves). Would use again! Only criticism is that some of the wording of task is slightly optimistic but this is for marketing as would be anywhere!

Aug 30,2017This was my first time using Oyster Worldwide and my first time travelling alone! I found them while searching for gap year projects and was astounded by the variety of projects and destinations on offer. I chose to spend two weeks in South Africa at a private game reserve as part of my final Duke of Edinburgh Residential. There, along with other young people from all over the world, I helped preserve and repair the structures in and around the reserve. My correspondant Anne was always very prompt and helpful in her replies. I was pleasantly surprised by the swiftness of reply to my queries (usually the same or next day) and the frequency with which she contacted me before, during and after my trip to make sure that everything was alright and whether i required help in anyway. I would definitely recommend Oyster to anyone thinking about volunteering abroad for between 2 weeks and 6 months.

Aug 30,2017As a first time solo traveller I was terrified the first question I asked when oyster contacted me was " is this legit ?" I was so scared it was all a big joke and nobody would collect me at the airport however I was completly wrong ! Oyster was the safely net I needed, contact was easy and fast and was reassured every step of the way from answering questions on clothing to medical advice. Was even shocked when they contacted me midweek to ask how I was doing and when I got back it's not a case of once your there they stop caring ! Would recommend going With this company for first time travellers especially you have that support and reassurance that everything will go as planned. Worked with elephants for 2 weeks in Thailand and was better than even expected

Aug 29,2017Fantastic experience in Sao Paulo working with under privileged children between 6-16. I was coaching Gaelic Football over there and it was great. I met amazing workers and the centre both local and foreign and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would recommend this company as communication was great and constant encouragement throughout. :)

Aug 27,2017By being a part of the volunteer team at Kwantu was by far one of those once in a lifetime opportunities that has helped define the person I am today. It helped me to solidify my decision to quit my job as an accountant to go to university and study zoology. Kwantu was everything I expected and more; the people were very knowledgable and kind, the place itself was clean and the food was great (full of carbs like rice - but still great). My game ranger Peter was awesome and we were able to learn a lot from him. I understand when you read in the description it talks about working for 5 days and off for the weekend becomes a little daunting but it's hardly classed as work. The most work you'll do is chopping down alien vegetation with a machete and trust me, you will love it. The other days you are able to track lions on game drives, help feed children in a local school, feed elephants and much more. On your days off you can go on different excursions or stay in Port Elizabeth. In the short time I was there was able to go Great White Shark cage diving and bungee jumping. Amazing. In fact, amazing isn't even the word, possibly more like breathtaking - literally. Anne at Oyster was very supportive and informative when I first enquired about the trip, during and afterwards. Everything ran smoothly and I couldn't thank them more. Especially as I was on my own travelling and there was someone at the airport to meet me as soon as I arrived. I would and have recommended this company on multiple occasions. Thank you for an outstanding, unforgettable trip to South Africa.

Aug 22,2017The customer service was excellent there's no doubt. However, I didn't really do much conservation. I'm not sure what Oyster did to add to the trip, I feel the morning work was unplanned and unsubstancial in any meaning when I was expecting to do something that made an impact. I feel my trip was too much of a holiday for a volunteer trip. The room rained in and my clothes grew mould. My bunk was moved from under the drip but that's all. Family was sound

Aug 17,2017Oyster Worldwide is a very safe company to book your trip. I definitely recommand it. I went to India for the medical internship and I stayed 5 weeks there. It's a bit scary to go to India by yourself when you're alone but I really wanted to do that. With Oyster, I felt very safe and ready to go. I had a wonderful experience in India. I learnt a lot at the hospital about the health system, the practices, differents illness that we doesn't know very well in Europe (tuberculosis, dengue fever....). I had time to see all the places that I wanted to see in New Delhi and enjoy the Indian life. The staff in India were very nice, very helpful for everything. It was also a chance to meet others volunteers from all over the world. Thank you Oyster for this 5 amazing weeks that I will never forget!

Aug 16,2017Oyster have such a great range of placement and gap year options. I really felt that their team took a great deal of time to find the right programme for both of my sons. I also liked the support they provided both before and during the two placements - really good piece of mind. Both my sons gained hugely from their programs. One son on the 12 week sports coaching scheme in South Africa (who went last year age 20) and my second son (age 17) who did a short 2 week trip as a game reserve volunteer. Both boys came home 6 inches taller with extra confidence and maturity. This was especially the case for my youngest who loved the bungee jump - mad! Thanks to Oyster for finding and supporting such great programs.

They make sure you’re happy with everything at every step along the way and are always happy to give advice about even the smallest of things! My trip to India really was the most incredible experience so thank you to oyster for making it happen!

Aug 15,2017Lovely bear sanctuary in Romania, beautiful animals and staff at the sanctuary very friendly. However, would not recommend Oyster as a company. They are clearly making a massive profit off of the back of honest volunteers, another form of animal exploitation. Accommodation was completely inadequate, felt like sardines packed into a tin. No privacy, no space and a strange controlling feeling throughout the whole trip. If you are looking to volunteer, I would recommend sorting it out entirely off of your own back and making own arrangements for accommodation.

Aug 07,2017I think they are making a lot of money off of animal welfare. The bears in Rumania are certainly not getting it. They charge 995 british pounds for a week, for 5 people in a dirty, walk through, apartment without food or toilet paper. Only 50 of those pounds are going to Liberty Bear Sanctury. That' just not good enough. Liberty Bear Sanctury is absolutely amazing but I'll nerer use Oyster again.

Aug 03,2017I went to South Africa to volunteer with elephants and had the most amazing time! Oyster were so helpful and didn't charge any hidden fees or anything like a lot of companies do. I organised most of my trip myself and definitely wished I asked them for more help at certain points (like booking flights - they charge a booking fee but the travel agent I booked mine with also did and they were awful!)

Jul 24,2017Before my departure, I was so nervous whether I could survive living and working in Romania for 3 months soon as I arrived, I felt like I was at home! I met such amazing people and the staff at the bear sanctuary have looked after me so well! I'm glad to have witnessed the number of bears rise from 80 to 98 bears in the sanctuary! Being long haul has its perks, you will come across some challenges along the way but it will shape you to who you are and how you overcome them. I felt like I have grown more confident and independent thanks to this beautiful experience! I would like to thank Oyster Worldwide for being very understanding due to some unfortunate circumstances I had to fly back to the UK for a week and while I was in the UK and in Romania, Anne has always checked on me to see how I am. There's some improvements to be considered such as the apartment not being suitable for 5 people to live in - it can get really overcrowded especially around the communal room & that there wasn't a mention about the bedrooms being connected to one another beforehand. Personally, it really concerned me due to the lack of security and privacy. Other than that, I have had a blast and I couldn't thank Oyster enough for making my first solo traveling trip happen & for making it a positive experience! My heart and soul will always remain in Romania and with all 98 of the bears!

Jul 22,2017The experience overall was amazing, from booking it through Oyster Worldwide, all the way to the day we left.Oyster were very helpful with supplying us with all of the information we would need to make the trip a success, they keep in constant contact to make sure you're ready to travel. Zoo Melaka (Malaysia) was incredible, our role was to help improve animal welfare standards, provide enrichment activities, carry out projects each week and to aid in the education of the local zoo keepers. Despite being a biology student, I learnt so much more than anticipated in regards to the different types of enrichment for multiple species and you really do learn something new everyday whilst on the job. The accommodation was lacking in many areas, but this adds to the experience of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying all things new. Be prepared to work very hard and push yourself, the heat and humidity will take it out of you but it is worth every second.

It made it difficult to arrange for transportation and communicate with family members about how to keep in touch. I had a much better experience with another company for the other components of my trip.
