Dec 23,2024I had a scam email concerning microchipping of one of my puppies.I contacted SmartTrace who assured me it was a scam and led me through the process of transferring ownership from the breeder to me.It was not easy but Diane helped through a few e mails.Eventually I paid the fee and the puppies are registered to me.Security now

I learnt that I had not been officially launched with SmartTrace and therefore if my dog had gone missing his chip on the website gave the breeders name! Dec 18,2024This company is a totally CON. The breeders implant as required and think that the new owners can transfer the chip for free they can't. Basically they are double charging for the same service. A total rip off. Funny how this new policy came into place at the same time it became a legal requirement to microchip all cats! You can't contact them by phone, apart from to report a missing animal. I have zero trust in a company that is so non-transparent to breeders, implanters and pet owners. All members of this chain thought the transfer was free! This is what Smarttrace have to say: Implant Fees: These fees typically range from £25-£35 and are paid directly to the veterinarian or implanter. This covers the microchip itself, the insertion procedure, and often a basic consultation. Breeders are responsible for microchipping their litters before selling, but these costs do not include registering the pet with an owner. In short, this is the payment for the product and the labour of implanting the product. Registration Fees: This is where pet owners come in. After acquiring a microchipped pet, you'll need to register your contact information with a microchip database. Veterinary clinics may offer free registration on their internal system, but these often have limitations. Dedicated databases like ours offer a one-time registration fee that covers keeping your pet's information up-
