In 2001, a customer named Jen was building her dream home in southern Michigan and wanted a beautiful stairway. She could see what she wanted in her mind, but the stair parts she wanted were not available through normal outlets. She wanted unique iron balusters with custom box newels. Len thought he could meet her needs, and StairSupplies was born.

The inability of your product team to offer real customization or even a simple change of the units used on the invoice showed a clear lack of customer needs. To be clear here is what happened: 1. Requested that the turn in being cut as the Red Oak is a difficult product to cut, and really requires that the worker be trained about the difficulty. To avoid this added training, I requested that the turn in be cut. Nope, you couldn't do that, I was willing to pay (this is in Calif. so worker comp is pretty high.) But you state that you customize. 2. My customer did NOT understand the units of measurement used in the US, at all. Not in the least. And they ask that the invoice from your company be printed using the metric measurements. Your customer service person said they couldn't do that. As a result, the customer requested that I not use your company again if you could not provide such a simple service. Which was too bad for you. If you are going to offer custom services, then do the easy things too.

From the start the companies rep was accommodating. My project was a railing to fit a custom radius deck that also attached to the independent roof structures. Once my design was submitted there engineering team came through to what was needed to achieve the look our customer was looking for. The quality of the products are top notch. Such a sad experience. Our order was delayed because they had a machine break down. Totally understandable. When our order finally arrived (3 weeks late), there was a ton of damage. The cove on a straight rail was broken off because or poor packaging. The seams on the quarter turn rail were broken open and there were several cracks along both of the railings that we ordered. The sanding in general was poor, so even though our rail was preprimed, we will need to sand and prime it again. We also received the wrong profile for an upeasing. I reached out with pictures and was told that it will be another 3 weeks until we can get the replacement upeasing. The person seems pleasant, but that is horrible customer service. I would expect the one piece that we need to be put to the front of the line and frankly I would also expect to be reimbursed for that piece since we will have to scrap or fix much of the other pieces. We are now looking at 6 weeks out of schedule with more work to do. So disappointing.
