We are a customer with a self-drive hire policy for our two motorhomes going into our third year of cover. This year we have been disappointed with the service from Alan Boswell. We've been unlucky enough to have a couple of claims and so we specifically contacted them to request our renewal quote in good time. The first quote we received was higher than the previous year, as we expected. But then, unexpectedly a couple of weeks later Alan Boswell contacted us to retract this quote, replacing it with one where the total premium was over 20% more. When asked, they said this was due to the number of claims, though this hadn't changed from the point where they provided the first quote. Later they did claim to have "renegotiated" with our insurer and dropped the premium somewhat, but it was still more than the original renewal quote. Replies were also quite slow, they weren't very helpful and there was little continuity as multiple people dealt with us. We're also having a hard time with their claims department at the moment who are very hard to deal with and very slow, following an incident in July we still don't have a claim approved or a date for the works to happen.

DO NOT TAKE OUT ANY INSURANCE WITH THEM - THEY WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING TO GET YOUR MONEY BUT WILL IGNORE YOU IF YOU CLAIM OR MAKE ANY COMPLAINTS AND FIND ANY EXCUSE NOT TO PAY OUT!!! Also please be very careful as they have unfair terms in their policy, so it is will be virtually IMPOSSIBLE for you to have a “valid” claim. Can I urge all those who have also been mis-sold a policy to put a bad review about them to warn others and report them to the Financial Ombudsman and Trading Standards, as they should be heavily fined by the FSA.

Nov 26,2022I have used Alan Boswell for my Buy to Let insurance cover for several years. In 2021 I needed to claim for “rent guarantee” since the tenant had stopped paying. So, for 9 months, until the tenant was evicted I depended on the insurance cover I had purchased through Alan Boswell. They had placed the cover with Royal and Sun Alliance (RSA) and my monthly claims were administered through a processing company, Legal LIM. The payments were always late sometimes by as much as 2 months and were never paid on the same day in the month, twice. I depend on the rent to cover my bills, so I became overdrawn at my bank. It was a nightmare to have to chase all 3 companies every month, by phone and email. RSA hid behind Legal LIM who soaked up all my ire. I was awarded compensation from Legal LIM for inexcusable service. Alan Boswell, to be fair, did answer the phone and respond to emails, but they were impotent in the face of stonewalling from Legal LIM and RSA.
