Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.
I have used Alexandria for about 15 years. I find that the level of customer service and technology help is the best and would highly recommend this library software to anyone considering updating or switching. Even when the worst happened to me about a year ago (old server crashed and the data had NOT been backed up even though I'd been assured it was being done on a nightly basis), COMPanion walked me through every solution possible in order to retrieve the data....and we were able to move the data to online hosting. Having that option was a lifesaver for me! I've always appreciated the fact that COMPanion does not sit on its laurels and assume their product is fine the way it is and let the technology become stale. There have consistently been updates throughout the year every year. They listen to their customers!
This library software is easy to maneuver and the reports are very easy to access.
The technical support for the Alexandria Library Automation Software is awesome. They are available 24/7.
Our migration from a consortium to a stand-alone instance of Alexandria was very well done. No downtime and only a minor issue with with receipt printers that was quickly addressed.
This is a library system I inherited, and I'm glad I did. Not only is it easy to use for processing and cataloging books, as well as doing inventory and reports, the web features of Researcher are fantastic for students. The "what's new" button and "view shelf" are used constantly by my students. Additionally, customer support is always top notch.

Whenever I call I always get exactly the help I need. There are functions I only do once a year so it is easy to forget details of each process, but every time the polite Alexandria staff walk me through.
I like how students can submit reviews, and place holds on titles with ease. The alert sounds help students with independent checkout, and help alert library staff as well. One challenge is how the search tool can be a challenge for elementary children. If something is not spelled exactly right, it is harder to find the items. As a librarian, this is the first tool I've used for cataloguing. I've been mostly satisfied with this aspect of Alexandria. Some of the reports are not as intuitively found as I'd like, but I'm still learning! I've explored the website some for tutorials.
I can not live without your library system! My young middle school students enjoy the ease of helping students check in and out books, assist in locating books on the OPEC desktop computers, the reports are easy to manage and your personal service team is exceptional!!! Especially, your on-line tech services and sales department when I required new bar codes. Your program is a librarian's best friend... love you!
We have been pleased with our many years of experience with the Alexandria Software. They are very helpful whenever we do have any questions or concerns.
I'm a librarian who has worked in the past for years with Alexandria. They have always been a very good system to use and we always got great tech support and help from them. This year at a different school, we are replacing our old system with Alexandria. I would rate the system higher, but we haven't yet been able to use it. There have been some delays on our end to getting the system set up, but all along the way, from the sales person who contacted and set up the contract, to the tech people who converted the data, to the billing person who has patiently waited for us, it has been a smooth transition and good, attentive communication. I look forward to using this system on our new elementary computer and expect (like in the past) that it will be easy to use and that we will have access to whatever communication, support, and help we will need to make it a great year in the library!
I have used Alex for my library since version 3 and I wouldn't use any other one! We chose it at the time because it was Mac compatible and because of the ease of use. It is still one of the most user friendly softwares that I have ever used. Our district tech guy wanted us to make a software change a couple of years ago and we all threatened mutiny if he made us change to a different product. I also think it has the best customer service people. We had upgraded our computers one summer and tech support worked with me until we figured out what was wrong and had me up and working.
Great software! It has been very sluggish since we went to being hosted on the cloud. I have had problems with scanning the books faster than the software keeps up with and it results in books not getting checked in or out properly.

Oct 12,2016I have recommended Alexandria to a small junior college library where it was seriously looked into. One thing I wish Alexandria would do would be to have a free on-line workshop that our district could attend. In it would cover tips and tricks that could benefit our small libraries.
