Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.

I have been using Alexandria for 4 years. There is much you can do in the system from holding books for students, bringing up reports on late books by classroom, creating check out policies for different grades, and when there is an issue, contacting a service tech is easy and they will walk you through the steps to help fix the issue. The one downside, figuring out how to change policies or holding policies is somewhat difficult to find in the system. There is so much, it would be nice to have a more stream line system for smaller schools. Overall, this has been a great system and my volunteers find it easy to check in and out books. I love being able to inventory the books online and create letters to go home.

Overall I think Alexandria is well done. I wish that there were clearer commands then simply trying to memorize things.

We have had a good experience with Alexandria thus far. It is a remarkable change from the previous LMS, which we used. However, we are having the following challenges: 1) Inability to obtain a full report of the number of loans which have been effected. It appears that once a book has been checked back into the system, the loan record is removed, so to speak. 2) We also wish to have the Circulation Module record usage of /access to electronic documents as loans. We have to ask our users to place a hold on edocs so that we can check them out as loans. this allows us to accurately report on the number of loans we have had.

I really like the company. There are only a couple reasons I gave it a 4 star and not 5. We have been in contact since the beginning of the school year about linking our ipads and communication on their end seems to be lacking. The other thing is, if you don't search the exact title or author the book will not come up in the search. I wish it would bring up what things that are close to it. Other than those two things I would recommend Alexandria to other schools.

We appreciate being able to talk to a real person on the phone whenever we have questions. Tech support reps are always friendly, patient, and willing to walk us through any issues. Alexandria sales reps are responsive when we have questions or need quotes, but never pushy. The software is reliable, intuitive and allows as to customize reports and labels more easily than other systems we have used.

I automated my first library 23 years ago using Alexandria and have continued to update and use this great program. Other companies have tried to get us to switch but after trials we still end up back with Companion and Alexandria. Oh and if you do need customer support, which is rare, they are amazing.

I have been a school librarian for 29 years in the same school district. We started using Alexandria Library Automation Software about 21 years ago. I like it extremely because it is easy to use and even when the program is revamped, it is still easy to understand and remember the new principles involved. When I cannot figure out some reports for myself, the technology assistance department is prompt and courteous as they help. I would recommend this program to any librarian any field.

This was the first Automation system that our library use and we still are using it today, We started using it back in 1990.

While Alexandria is simple to use, it feels a bit dated. I have recently previewed other systems (Insignia) and like the contemporary look and feel of their product. Some of the ALEX searches can be clunky for children and while you have recently tried to make reports easier, in essence they are more convoluted. I still like the product but seeing what is out there makes me want more.

Whenever I have had any difficulties the people on the help line have always been patient and explained things in a way that even a non techie like me can understand.

I have used Alexandria for four years and have found it to be a useful program. It is user friendly and allows me to complete the tasks I need to. I did not give it five stars because there are a few reports I would like to see that they do not have and some of the reports do not work as I would expect them to. Overall, I am very pleased with the program and have recommended it to other schools in our district

As this is the only library software I have used, I don't really have anything to compare it to; however, the few wishes I have are more customization to the reports. Also, it would be helpful to have a spanish version of some of the reports such as overdue letters or notices.

Although it's taken me a little time, I appreciate all of the functions of Alexandria. I love the capability to create my own reports for what I need. I came from a district that used Destiny software from Follett. It was what I was used to and it was quite simple. However, the format of the display has not been upgraded since it came out. Alexandria has a nicer, more pleasing look for students.

We are a 5A independent school system with 10 schools, and Alexandria is perfect for us! We can do so many things with the students-- they can write and publish reviews within the software, they can put books on hold, they can even recheck their books online. There is a kiosk mode for self check out and self check in, and various security levels for the use of teacher, volunteers, and library staff. The reporting capabilities are great. Library tasks are easy to do in the software and the company emails me reminders for things like the start and end of a school year. Support is a just a quick phone call away if I forget how to do something. The tech support staff are always so kind and knowledgeable if I need to contact them. I recommend them highly.

I am a new librarian, and I received no training in Alexandria when I came in to my high school's library. Fortunately, the system is fairly intuitive, and what I wasn't able to figure out on my own, I was able to find in the extensive Help Guide. Alex is easily used, easily maintained, and easily the best circulation management software available. Then again, it's the only management software I've used...
