Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.
Alexandria does almost everything I need it to do* and the tech support staff is always friendly and helpful, although the level of knowledge and experience seems to vary depending on who answers the phone**. *Preformatted reports are helpful timesavers, but sometimes I wish I could format my own to get exactly what I want. **Varying levels of knowledge are to be expected in any group, but sometimes I've know enough about a problem to know I'm getting a wrong or incomplete answer so I call back and hope for a more experienced helper, and I know at least one other library that does the same thing.
I have always had very helpful customer service. Even when it might be something I should know but just can't figure out at the time.
Alexandria is an efficient and affordable library system. The staff helped our school library get up and running. Thank you so much!
The services provided are exactly what are advertised, what else could you ask for? It's quick and easy manage our inventory and it's been a breeze setting up our system and getting our school library running. The customer service is helpful and responsive. I am very pleased with our choice and would definitely look to them again if I was setting up a library elsewhere.
Using the new server/client 7.x version. Not too happy as there are lots of bugs. Wasting precious library time to iron out the deficiencies and report errors, all while trying to be productive. Alexandria Tech Support desk is wonderful though, very accommodating & answers customer queries promptly. Emails back if I get disconnected with them, while working through an issue.
We are a small parochial school who chose Alexandria Library Software to bring us up-to-date and we LOVE it!! The transition took time at first, but has paid off immensely. We came from the dark ages with Alexandria!
Love the customer service! I can call for any reason and immediately get help.
As a first year librarian, I feel like I struggle to navigate my way through the system. Also, there are too many steps for some actions (i.e. Holding a books) I also feel like the program freezes and becomes unresponsive more than normal.
It is limiting to only have access to Alexandria as downloaded software, especially as a Chromebook user. Additionally, the lack of intuity with the names of commands makes it difficult for non-librarian trained staff to use the program to the fullest.
The Alexandria online catalog offers easy navigation for patrons and administrators and state-of-the-art technological support available 24/7.
The software has changed and the things I would be able to accomplish easily with the previous software take me so much longer to figure out now.
The product went from a very user friendly system to a very cumbersome one with lots of steps required to do once simple functions. Running reports, checking items/patron statuses, and more have turned into multi-step operations that take time away from servicing students and staff. Add in programming bugs and the frustration has reached very high levels. When calling support I often talk to reps who haven't used the updated program, or not being librarians themselves do not understand what I am trying to accomplish with the program and therefore are unable to help. Hopefully a situation is found soon because I would once again prefer to like using this software since I need to rely on it daily.
Someone is always there on the phone to help me! Can't say enough about how much I love this database program to help run my library.
Our district has been using Alexandria for the past 7 years. It has all the features I wanted in a library automation system and then some. The tech support is awesome; I can call with any question, from "This doesn't seem to be working correctly for me right now" to "I'm having a brain cramp and forgot where to find ___." The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there are a few things I can't configure exactly the way I would like, but it's possible those may be resolved when I update to v. 7.
Cataloging is always easy and I love how it works great consistently. This is good. When checking in a stack of books there is rarely a person in front of me while I'm doing so. So WHY is there an interruptive pop-up that says this patron has an overdue when the most likely item i check in will be that overdue? what is the purpose of this??? this is the very bad. And finally when printing out patron details the page formatting does not show everything easily even if you change the page set up from portrait to landscape. This is the mediocre.
Most of the time, Alexandria is ok. Sometimes I think there is a lot of clicking here, then there to get the information needed. It's hard to see who had a book out last when it was already checked in, and then I found some damage, and want to see who had it last. the list shows from the first checkout, and I can't see who was last.
We are using version 6 right now and for the last 6 years and we have always had issues. From using the reports, to printing labels, to getting student information from Power School. The system is not intuitive and I don't care for the cataloging interface when I have to input items manually. I wouldn't recommend it.
This is my 7th year using Alexandria and it has been a smooth experience for our school. The occasional issue/glitch is generally solved very quickly with a call to technical support, who are extremely knowledgeable, patient and competent.
I wouldn't want to be without Accelerated Reader. It drives our students to read constantly ♥

Oct 13,2016I was converting to the newest version and they were so helpful both with email responses and on the telephone. They walked me through step by step. We had some problems on our end, and they were able to figure it out and work with our technology person to remedy right away. Would recommend!!
