Rental cars are a dime a dozen. Blue’s car was clean, in good condition but the difference was the quality of service. The booking process was clear and easy, the pick up and drop off fast and friendly and the service via email every time I had a question or wanted to make a change was quick, clear and made the process easy.
Friendly staff and very fast and understanding service
We used Blue Car Rental for our road trip in Iceland after a instagram recommendation from Kyana. I must say, this is the worst car rental experience I have even had in my life. This is one of the only car rental companies not located inside of the Kef airport and the shuttle does NOT run 24/7...which is a topic I will return to. Once we were shuttled to the rental car station, we checked in and waited for over 10 minutes for our name to be called. Keep in mind, there was 5 workers and only one other couple be checked in. They were all sitting there on their phones.... The guy at the counter called our name just to inform us we had keypad access to the keys but did not inform us of where that was. It was outside around the corner in the back, which is not directed by signage. We receive the keys and find out vehicle, which is the absolute worst conditioned car in their lot. The car's tire rims were completely rusted, the windshield had extensive damage, and the car had scrapes and scratches EVERYWHERE. Compared to every other car in the lot, ours was in the worst condition. We went to go ask for the same exact car in better condition and the lady rudely told us "we will not give you a new car just because it looks better".....well what do you know, we took this car and got a flat tire. We paid over $1200 for the car in total, including roadside assistance, but when I called the company to get someone out to help us, they hung up on me. My husband thankfully was strong enough to muster the RUSTED lugnuts off and change the tire with the spare. Also, beware that all of the cars are manual, and they did not even give me the option when I booked online otherwise. I would have paid extra for manual but even so, they need to give this as an option OR inform customers they are receiving a manual. Thankfully, my husband knew how to drive stick, but I do not, and if it was an emergency, we would be stuck. When we returned the car, we were informed the .3 mile shuttle was not running. Again, three workers present on their phone, and not a single one offered to drive us because the weather was horrible. There was 55 mph winds and it was 40 degrees, however, we had to walk on the busy road (no sidewalks). Overall, these people are RUDE and do not know how to run a business. Spend the extra money and do yourself a favor. Rent anywhere but here.
As good as a car rental company gets - easy booking, pick up and drop off. You are sent a damage report electronically which is great but still take your own video at the start and end of your rental. Staff at both pick up and drop off were friendly and helpful. Site is less than a five minute walk from the airport (there is a free shuttle). The cost of the 4x4 was competitively priced and we had no issues at all during the ten day rental. Easy guide in the car for do’s and dont’s when driving in Iceland. One bit of advice, go for unlimited mileage as you will do a lot of driving if you’re exploring outside of Reykjavík.
The rental process was easy. And we thought we had full protection for that is what we paid for, however; while driving twice the vehicle started having mechanical problems to the point we thought we were not going to make our destination in very bad weather. Thankfully, we made it. I contacted the company, they sent a mechanic out to hotel to look at the car. He drove it around the parking lot, said he saw nothing wrong and was done. We drove it again and after about two hours the car struggled again. We returned the car, they charged us extra of $250 for the mechanic. Said we weren't covered. Paid over $1200 for the week in the car rental to ensure we had coverage. They are not upfront that all costs are provided. From what I understand, if we were on the side of the road then it would have been covered. I had them document the information because there is something wrong with the vehicle, but it took them over two weeks to get back with me. And nothing was done. I say stay away!
I rented a car through Zero/Blue Car Rental, Keflavík, in November 2022, and everything went smoothly: the previous exchange of emails; picking up the car without human intervention; the car was clean and impeccable; the check-out equally without human intervention. However, I had a small problem, I think that one of the days it was quite windy and the car door appeared a little damaged. In the end, I was given a report with that mention and I didn't have to pay anything, the insurance worked effectively. Congratulations!
Seamless service, friendly staff.
We rented a used Dacia Duster for 5days with road side assistant waiver. We stock on the road at 1am in the snow. The road was clear, we drove under the speed limit. Road conditions checked:no difficult driving,no snow, no weather alarts. We called them for road assistant. The customer service said no one will come to help us. They send out an email, email said no service 24-25 December. We was on the road on 26th December. Their 24 hour emergency line does not employ overly polite individuals. After they refused to help us, we contact 112.In 10minutes another road service assistant help us out, we paid off 45000KR.This amount the car rental company should covered, as we bought the road side assistant waiver. My 8years old son was in the car too, who was terrified. Their 24hour road assistant refuse to give us any help or information,no refunds. Answer from them :maybe tomorrow someone will come, understand no one help! , stay where we are. This is incredible, unacceptable.
Great team, great and new car. All were really friendly and the welcomed me like never. I picked up the car in winter and they warmed up the car. That was so friendly. It took 10 minutes to pick up the car. 1 minute for the keys an 9 minutes talking with them as they were so kind. I dropped off the car without any issue. Within 5 minutes i was cleared to go. I drove around the country without any issues. Thanks again to the team, and i hope to see u again. Kind regards Manu F.
Blue charged me 400R administration fee for a traffic fine of 200R.
Take pictures of every little scratch when you take the car. You will be charged extra at the end 700 euros for a small scratch
Alexis contacted me through whatsapp so could find the spot outside the airport very quickly. Long waiting rows for rental pickup inside the airport, just a 2 min walk away we could take the car right away. Clean and modern, full tank, great car, even doing well in the hils for its size. And VERY verY GOOD price , even with full insurance coverage . No hidden cost, no cc needed. Will use it again when in Kreta! Thank you Alexis and collegue👍🏼
Filled my car at the BP on the airport before handing in Of course they billed me fuel with extra costs etc. Don't go there.
I had booked a Kia ceed model for 4 days in September . Got a similar Kia Stonic in tip top condition. The pick up location is very near to airport and pick up was hassle free and quick. The car itself was in very good condition. I had a mishap just minutes before returning the car on last day. Good that I had opted for the Liability waiver insurance. But the people from Blue were very helpful in sorting out the paperwork quickly and dropped me at airport to make sure I got the flight. So 5 stars for customer service.
I had a bad experience with my rental. First, I did not get the size I ordered. I wanted the smallest car with the best mileage, but got a bigger car with a worse mileage (I know that they don't guarantee the class, but still). Second, their webpage explicitly say that they have new cars. The car I got (kia ria) had over 100,000 km and did not have cruise control! Driving along straight roads in Iceland (with virtually no traffic) without cruise control is absolutely awful. Instead of enjoying the views along the road you constantly must keep your eyes on the speed indicator, to make sure that you don't go over a speed limit (Iceland has numerous speed cameras). Finally, my car had an issue with a fuel tank lid. It would not respond to the knob inside the car, which was very frustrating. Accidentally, I figured out that I had to jiggle the lid, so it would begin to respond to the knob, which I had to do during the entire trip. I should admit, that when I returned the car, the agent did not have to tweak the lid (I regretted that I didn’t make a video). When comparing the price with other major brands, blue car rental is comparable, but they do include some insurance (though with a steep deductible). But, if you credit card covers it, I would go with major brands.
Blue car rental were pretty easy to deal with, friendly and didn't screw us over. We hired a Suzuki Vitara which is a medium size (small, if you're American) SUV with AWD suitable for light off roading. The Vitara was underpowered and slow, but did the job and was fuel efficient. Their pickup and drop off is super fast and efficient. They allow their 4x4's on F-Roads which is a big bonus as most of the european renters don't. We went to Landmannalagur via the F208 (the easiest F-Road) and the car was more than capable for that. That said, the car we got was pretty beat up, scratches and dents everywhere, bits missing and someone had already ruined all 4 doors (in Iceland, it's so windy, you need to be really careful with them). 2 opened way too far (to 90degrees, threatening to break the bodywork) and 2 wouldn't stay open, so it was just an inconvenience. The central locking sometimes didn't work, dents, scratches etc. In a way with the gravel roads that's ok because you don't have to worry about it being 100% perfect if you get a slight ding off a stone or whatever (we didn't). Obviously not every car can be new, but it's pretty obvious that they don't fix any damage done to their cars before renting them out again, and that did mean that as well as putting up with a tatty car, I was constantly worried that they'd try to screw us when we got back by insisting some of the damage was new. Happily, they didn't, the car did the job, everything was fine, and I would hire from them again.
Personally I experienced no problems with pick up and/or drop off. At the end of the rental no false charges were made and I liked the website very much for booking, managing the car and all info related. Also a specific question from me was aswered by email within a couple of hours.
Decent experience. Booking was seamless and they allow you on all F roads as long as you book an appropriate vehicle. Our vehicle was in poor condition (because I bought the $0 deductible insurance? I wonder) and the gas gauge did not work plus the paid for gps was not included. We did get the gps after I insisted it be handed over. Gas gauge was a lost cause which we discovered 400 kilometers into our trip. Their 24 hour emergency line does not employ overly polite individuals. One tire lost pressure during our trip and was a problem. Finding air was relatively easy. I will say, I received a decent refund after our return for the hassle. I have to give them credit for that. But my guess is they rented it right back out. A gas gauge just doesn't completely break like that and I can't believe I was the first to complain.
Booked and got a Dacia Duster 4WD for a 10 day road trip around Iceland. Price was in-line with rates elsewhere. Vehicle I got had 80K+ on the clock, and it could have been cleaner inside. There is a difference between full on the fuel gauge, and the what's actually in the tank - the previou renter had sussed that out by the look of things. That said, here's my experience: Pick-up was easy enough and the young lady was very helpful with info and advice. The car was a pleasure to drive - it did a further 3K+ with me, on all road surfaces and performed well. Fuel economy not quite what they'd have you believe - I got an average of 14km per litre, or 7 litres per 100km. Returning the vehicle was straightforward, and the young man checked over the vehicle with me present. All good. Overall I was happy with the vehicle and service.

Sep 24,2023Our experience with Blue Car Rental has been great. The website is very intuitive, clear and easy to book. A few days before you do the prior check in. When you arrive, you collect the key from a locker and go directly to get your car, without any other paperwork. It couldn't be more comfortable and faster. When you book you think, sometimes cheap ends up being expensive. Afterwards, you realize that the quality/price ratio is unbeatable. The vehicle, a Dacia Duster, was very well maintained and we did not have any problems in the almost 5,000 km we did. And many of them on very hard roads and crossing rivers.
