I have to say I can't believe some of the negative reviews I have been reading on here - in our experience, Blue Car Rental made the whole rental process simple, quick and hassle-free. Unlike other rental companies, they don't hold a deposit from your bank, and the entire check-in process is online, meaning all you need to do is pick up the keys and off you go. Blue Car Rental even recommended taking photos / a video prior to driving away in case any scratches, dents etc. had been missed prior to hire, but we also took out all the insurances for gravel, sand protection etc. to be on the safe side. We had a wonderful trip and would fully recommend Blue Car Rental. I do think some of these negative reviews are very unfair - at the end of the day, like with any rental company, if you damage the car you have to pay for it. They make it very clear before you arrive what is/isn't covered on the insurances, and it's up to you if you decide to ignore that.

Car rental companies are normally a pain and you are uncertain if there are additional cost. Also experienced a lot of aggressive upsell when picking up the car. Blue Car Rental was just how you want it to be. Great service, no extras, easy and fast. I will for sure only use them in the future.

Seamless experience with them, surely my best experience with a rental car company by far. Excellent customer service on social media and any other channel, smooth online check in and registration, very clear statements about the car and the agreements. Pick up and drop off lasted no more than 5 minutes both. AMAZING. Impeccable service from them, the car was also good. I am so happy I chosen Bluecar rental I honestly recommend it to anyone going to Iceland! Thank you so much for making my trip even better Simone

Typical gougers profiting from tourists who are in a hurry to catch a plane. Charging anywhere from 700 to 1500 $ for the slightest scratch. Their interpretations of the insurance conditions may be the subject of a comedy theater show. STAY AWAY!

Seamless. Frankly. Enough said. But for those who like details- shopping/purchase/changes to the order was easy and clear, as was any communication. Pickup was a breeze and I like that we agreed on the existing damages before using the car. The whole experience can be 100% contactless for those who may be more vulnerable. Note, to find it, you need to go past the silver egg/sperm -shaped sculpture, and even past the abstract metal rainbow sculpture - it's next to some sort of hotel. Maybe try looking it up on Google maps before you go so you can find it more easily ;) The car performed well, it was a nice perk to have a bit of discount on fuel (on select brands) thanks to the complimentary chip, and then drop-off was equally a breeze.

I've used many, many rental companies in the past and have had my fair share of issues with cowboy operators. I was surprised to see some of the problems others have had on here. Admittedly, perhaps it's because nothing awkward happened, like a crash. Both members of staff were efficient and delightful. The car was a free upgrade as they didn't have the model I booked. It was in good condition, and they didn't go searching for miniature dents or scratches on return. Also, they were the only company offering half-sane pricing in August.

God oplevelse. Fik helt ny bil (Honda CR-V hybrid). Intet at udsætte på selskabet. Intet pres for at købe ekstra forsikringer og ingen jagt på små ridser og lignende ved aflevering af bil.

June 2021: We have just had a very pleasing experience with Blue Car Rental. The promise stated on ther webpage of "no hidden fees" were correct and thanks to an online check in procedure the pick up was incredibly fast and likewise an easy return. We felt very save during the rental period for having added the SAAP liability waver. The staff was smiling and professional. I have already recommended this to a friend living in Iceland, so she can spread the word about this is the car rental company to use :)

Helt igennem god oplevelse! Intet bøvl eller gebyrer. Vi havde en fin bil i 5 dage, og ønskede en ekstra dag. Intet problem hos dem og ved afregning fik vi bare at vide, at den sidste dag var på deres regning👍🏼👍🏼 Venligt og imødekommende personale, hvor jeg har et meget klart indtryk af, at de ikke forsøger at tage r@ven på en med småskader osv

We rented a 4x4 Dacia Duster with snow tires and full insurance (with liability waiver) to be on the safe side. We were driving on the ring road on a snowy day, very slowly and carefully. The car started to skate and fell off the road. We called Blue Car's line and explained the situation. First thing they said was that nothing was covered by insurance. They told us that a tow truck would cost around 1000€ and recommended us to ask for help on the road and try to push the car back to the road. We did this under extreme weather conditions without success. We called Blue Car again but they didn't answer. We called 112 who transfered us to the Police and then to Blue Car. We said that we couldn't move the car and it was getting more and more stuck in the ice. They called the tow truck. Didn't mention any payment this time, which we assumed was due to the fact that the Police was involved. They said that the tow truck would take 1/1,5 hours. It took 2,5 hours! It was extremely difficult for the guy to take the car out and we almost freezed to death outside! When he finally did it, he told us that we would have to pay him around 700€! We called Blue Car again and asked them to indicate where that was excluded in our Rental agreeement. The Lady on the phone just kept repeating that it was excluded... But we wanted to know why! After insisting a lot, she told us that she would call us back in 1 minute. We waited 10 minutes and nothing... We called them again. It didn't seem that anyone was looking for our answer... And they told us to wait again. Finally they said that the exclusion was in paragraph j) related to driving off the road. BUT OF COURSE WE WERE NOT DRIVING OFF THE ROAD, WE WERE DRIVING ON THE MAIN ROAD AND FELL OFF ROAD DUE TO THE WHEATHER CONDITIONS! We explained this to them and the guy from the tow truck did too. After a long conversation in Icelandish, Blue Car finally told us that they would pay for the tow. We thought that the situation was handled, but when we delivered the car they immediately asked us to pay for the tow truck, because "customer refused to pay". THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED! After a long discussion, Blue Car accepted to pay for the tow truck. But this does not end here: afterwards they went to check the car and told us that it had damage underneath, which was not covered by insurance. So they told us: "you have 2 options: either you pay 700€ for the tow or we send the car to repair which will cost you much more, at least around 2500€!". Of course we had a plane to catch in a few hours, and couldn't wait for a budget to repair the car. This is very convenient on their side... So basically we were THREATENED to pay for a tow which was covered by our insurance. It goes without saying that we were treated in a very unpolite manner and really felt HARRASSED by Blue Car's staff. We Will do everything within our power to make sure that there Will be consequences out of this situation.

Ho noleggiato una Dacia Duster a fine settembre 2019 per fare il giro dell'Islanda. Visto che ho preferito non noleggiare un'auto nuova, questa aveva dei graffi e delle ammaccature ma per il resto funzionava benissimo e mi ha portato ovunque tranquillamente anche sulle strade sterrate (F-roads). Il personale è stato molto gentile e i tempi di attesa per prendere e riconsegnare l'auto non sono stati molto lunghi considerando anche il gran numero di clienti. I prezzi di noleggio erano inferiori rispetto ad altri. Alla riconsegna ho fatto notare che il navigatore dell'auto probabilmente non era aggiornato e quindi non avevo potuto utilizzarlo. Mi hanno rimborsato il costo. Lo consiglio sicuramente.

Used them in November 2018 - only leaving a review now as I've had some really poor rental car experiences since with other companies and thought amidst all the negative reviews, it was only fair to leave some positive feedback for a rental company where it was due. Long story short, booked a 4x4 for 2 days in Iceland. Didn't get the one we chose (never have anywhere) but got one in the same category which was just as good. The pick up process was straightforward from their office in Reykjavik - I was encouraged to check the car over for damages before driving away in it, which I did. I found some minor marks which I was assured were not of any importance. They did try to sell me extra insurance which isn't noted on the website (The only reason Im giving 4 and not 5 stars, as I believe rental companies need to be more transparent with their pricing), however I was prepared for this and had my own rental insurance, which was much cheaper. The guy at the desk was fine with that and didn't push me to purchase their own insurance. Didn't have any problems with the car the 2 days we used it. Dropped it off at the airport on the last day, the return process probably took no more than 15-20 minutes while the guy checked the car over - there was no damage, he didn't try to make a scene about any of the little marks I'd noticed on the pick up which I was a bit worried about, and that was that. There is a regular shuttle bus from their office to the main terminal, or its about a 4 minute walk. The staff seemed friendly enough at both offices. No complaints, other than maybe a bit more transparency on pricing.

Car had a few small scratches, crack in windshield but I was told it is in perfect condition. Tank was not full, as is usual (and says so when reserving the car....) , and this fact was not pointed to me. Better check the car thoroughly when picking it up and give immediate feedback, otherwise you may have to pay for other's faults... Personnel was friendly and corrected the faults when pointed out.

I rented a car (4x4 Dacia Duster) from Blue Car Rental last June 2019, for a family summer vacation which lasted 9 days. I got a totally full insurance car. I had a very bad experience with the treatment I received from both, the company and the employees. So you should expect a bad treatment throughout your rental experience with them as well. FCO

I would not recommend to anyone to ever rent a car from this company. STAY AWAY from Blue Cars and Cars Iceland !!! We rented a car for a week and returned it all fine. There was a tiny and almost invisible dent, that could even be there from before and we missed it while checking it out. Even in the case scenario that it got cause during our car renting period, they wanted to charge us the astronomical amount of 120,000 isk = 800 euros for something that is obviously not costing as much. Not only they caused us stress to pay for this while we were already stressed to catch our flight, but they also ripped us off, and I now have to follow up with my lawyer. This was a clear robbery, and a mental abuse.

Rented a Toyota Rav4, auto, for 3 days. Prebooked all the extra's as wanted a nice simple hire with no sales pitch. Car was virtually brand new, still smelled new. Apparently they change them at 40,000km. Fitted with studded winter tyres as standard. The whole experience was excellent. Nice quick handover at each end. Honest check over of the car at start and finish. I'd recommend the WiFi option. It gives a great 4G connection on all your mobile devices and is secure. Looked through lots of reviews before booking and these guys looked the best. Excellent value, many of the normally optional insurances are included as standard and you get the vehicle you booked (not something similar!)

Ordered and payed for a Corolla Diesel back in februar 2018, when we should pick up the car in Keflvik at 26. july 2018, they just told us they dont have this diesel in there program. I ordered a Diesel for its more torque at the hills and etc. They offered us an Auris gasoline, but we have no other choice than take that car. Not so economic as the Diesel, and need so much torque to drive in. They knew the situation about the diesel for 6 month, but nobody phoned or send us some emails, i will never use that kind of company again, they are not with there customer. So recommandation to other customers, take a known company like Hertz, Avis, Sixt with a good feeling for a customer. Blue Car Rental, shame on you !
