Seamless booking. We pitched up 2 hours early hoping for the best, and there was our car. No hassle, no faff, 2 minutes later we were on the road. Faultless little Aygo car that took us to some wonderful places. Once again, we ended up dropping at the airport early as we were a bit worried about "media" reports about hold ups. Again, no faff. Highly recommended.
I really liked renting from Blue. I’ve never rented a car before but after lots of comparison with other companies I decided to go with Blue since there were many good reviews. I got the car I wanted (discussed with Blue beforehand which car would suit me best) and the pick up was fast and just a few minutes from the airport. The car worked perfectly the whole trip and took us all the way on the south coast. Drop of was fast and easy. I would really recommend renting a car with Blue Car Rental, I can’t imagine it being easier than this!
I went with Blue Car Rental because they were the company that was part of a package I bought for our trip to Iceland. I wish I did not. They were extremely shady in our dealings with them and we were not surprised when they arbitrarily typed a number on a calculator to let us know we owed them close to 400$ for I kid you not a small piece of fragile cardboard that was missing from underneath the car. I have no idea what the deal with this was but we had to catch our flight of course so we didn't have time to argue. I told them (politely mind you) that I did not want to hear from them again and I left. Days later, probably out of spite, they sent me an untranslated letter in Icelandish while charging me an additional fee of around 80$ for reasons I am still not clear on. They said I would be contacted again and of course I never was (this is over 5 months ago). They are crooks who prey on tourists and who should be avoided. There are multiple other car rental companies. I can't vouch for the rest, but you'd be better off trying your luck with any other car rental companies as you can't go worse than those thieves.
We booked through Reykjavik cars (a booking agent) and ended up with Blue Car Rental in May 2022. We paid our 10% deposit and had our confirmation come through straight away. The following day we received an email stating that the prices were incorrect on the website when we booked so they actually couldn't fulfill our order. They offered a refund or a 10% discount from their updated price list. We responded explaining that we would like to continue with the order at the price originally agreed. What followed was a series of emails in a thread with other customers details. We received updates on other customers who have had the same issue and information about adjustments to their upcoming orders. We received no response to our email after several chases over the course of a week (and counting). We requested to have our email removed from the email thread shared with other effected customers, for confirmation of our deposit being refunded and several chases on our cancellation confirmation but have received nothing to date. We get the impression that this company is run by a severely understaffed workforce (potentially of one, who knows?) and is an unable to operate effectively. The fact that there are clear data breach issues here too doesn't instill any confidence. If they were a UK business, I would have reported them by now. Be very wary/avoid.
Our holiday in Iceland finished just a couple of weeks ago. It was our 4th time in Iceland, the 4th time renting a car. Thanks to Blue Car Rental it has been our best renting experience. Nothing was wrong, from the beginning to the end of the rental period. We rented a used car, in our opinion is the best option in Iceland, we booked a used Duster we had a used Qashqai: some 132000 kilometers but the car was in perfect shape. Fast automated check in and drop off, full insurance included and a fair rate. Almost perfect. Highly recommended. Kind Regards Simone
Zero queues to pick up the car. Super friendly staff. The car actually developed a problem on day 3 of 8 when we were 2 hours away from Reykjavik. The staff were incredibly helpful and arranged for a new vehicle to be delivered to our Airbnb that same day, and refunded us an additional costs from our lack of a car for that morning. Very easy drop off and more super friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Please stay very far away. They are opportunist thieves and expert deceivers. I ended up paying more than double the ammount originally expected. They even told me that the deposit I paid upfront, was for use of the agency website and to obtain a special rate. They have no concept of fairness, dignity or respect.
Booked 2 Dacia Dusters for a winter roadtrip. Good communication beforehand via email. They came with spike tires and were always reliable. We booked used models and with +150.000 km and a lot of small damages they were exaclty that. But everything was marked accordingly and we had no problems at all when we returned them. Great experience, would definitely go with Blue Car Rental and Dacia Dusters again!
BRILLIANT EXPERIENCE! Booked a BMW X1 online and paid upfront. Collected keys from a security box and within 5 mins I was driving to my hotel in a brand new BMW X1 M Series with a full tank and built-in sat nav. All communication was timely and clear. Delighted with the car and it got us through several days of challenging driving. Spotless interior and gleaming exterior. I also got a discount on fuel with a chip/fob from BlueCar. When I dropped it off, there was no queue, and I was out within a minute. I just handed back the key and the lady wished me a safe trip home… so easy! I’ve hired many cars in several countries, and this was by far the easiest and fastest experience I’ve had. Thank you so much for making our trip to Iceland even better!
Really good place to rent car in Iceland. One tiny problem was that back windshield wiper was broken as well as the back light. However, otherwise it was perfect and very easy.

I have now used blue car rentals on 3 occasions, and all 3 experiences were excellent. The first time we used blue car rentals was in 2018 when my partner and I were both under 21. Blue car rentals was the only companies that would rent to a 20 year old that didn’t charge a ridiculous deposit and accepted an upfront payment from Direct Debit (as neither of us owned a credit card). We paid for a manual Toyota aygo, but we received an automatic VW Polo (that we affectionately nicknamed Marco for the duration of the trip). Excellent service, staff were friendly and helpful. Pick up was really quick, car was in excellent condition. At drop off they checked the car then and there and signed it off, which gave us peace of mind. I took a solo trip in June (2021) and following the previous experience I decided to go with Blue Car rentals. Again, faultless experience. I booked a manual Toyota Aygo, but received an Automatic Kia Rio (which I loved!) and in hind sight I’m glad they gave me an automatic as having to get used to right hand manual as well as driving on the right for the first time may have been a bit overwhelming (My partner drove during our first trip). Pick up and drop off were both super quick, no issues, and they signed the car off then and there so I knew there were no issues. For our most recent trip (November 2021) it was a no brainer that we would go with Blue Car Rentals. This time I booked a manual Kia Rio as there was 3 of us, and that is what we received. On pick up, we noticed the boot kept clicking/unlocking when we shut it, we pointed this out to one of the staff and I mentioned I was concerned it might open when I’m driving, and they swapped it for a different Kia Rio no problem! Overall pick up still took less than 10 mins. I was a bit worried when we took the car back as it had gotten a bit dirty, but again they checked it and signed it off without issues. Staff have always been friendly, service has always been super quick. The online booking system is incredibly easy to navigate and the cost is pretty reasonable. I recommend Blue car to anyone who I talk to that’s planning to self-drive in Iceland. I also appreciate the discount token that can be used at Ollis and OB fuel stations. I recommend thoroughly reading the website when booking, I’ve noticed a few complaints in the reviews that indicate they probably didn’t read the terms and conditions particularly around what’s covered under the insurance. I also recommend paying that bit extra for the liability waiver (or definitely the Sand and Ash protection if you are going along the south coast). My partner and I intend to visit Iceland many more times and we will choose Blue car rental every time!
We rented a Dacia Duster for 10 days in November 2021 and drove the ring road. The booking and online check in was simple with the pick up only taking a few minutes. Drop off was also easy and they took a few minutes to check the car over. We did take out the liability waiver for piece of mind and didn’t have any accidents or damage to the car so I can’t comment on what might be their approach if you have issues. However it’s the first rental company we have used that actually provides the contract and explains what is / is not covered up front. We have been renting cars for about 25 years in different countries and I have to say the experience with Blue Car was probably the best. Maybe matched by Hertz in downtown Miami Beach. The Dacia Duster had just over 100,000 km on it but was clean, safe and had the studded tyres we needed. So overall we were very pleased with Blue Car Rentals.
We did a lot of research before booking with Blue Car Rental. I loved the fact that you could select the option to pay on arrival or upfront. We selected upfront as it was slightly cheaper, plus you could cancel 24 hours before your collection for a full refund. So this made sense for us as we still needed negative Covid tests to fly, so if our plans changed we knew we could get a refund. We selected a 4x4 due to the time of year, and we had a Toyota Rav4 as it came with free GPS. The negative part of this review was that the GPS was so out of date we ended up using our phone. So this was just a bit pointless, and a shame. If we tried to enter a destination it was adding on an extra 40 to 50 minutes, in one case 2 hours to our journey time. So I feel that they do need to sort this out, and you should be aware that you may end up using your phone anyway. If you want to connect your phone to the in car system, you can, but only via bluetooth. I don't think the car models are new enough to have apple play or auto android installed on them. So don't expect anything fancy. It is an outdated GPS system. The collection of the car was simple, we went for the contactless option and collected our keys from the box. This was easy. We had an email upon landing at the airport with instructions and a code. We inspected the car as Blue actually recommended taking photos / a video prior in case any scratches, dents etc. had been missed. To be safe we actually took out all of the insurances for gravel, sand protection etc. The only other negative for this review is that there were two large chips in the windscreen and we had not received our report through on email from Blue. I had to chase them twice. We had taken various pictures and a video at the airport, so I would encourage you to check and do this. It takes 5 minutes and we included the outside of the rental building in the video to show it was at collection. It would have been great to have this ready so we could have gone inside to raise any issues, if needed. The car apart from the above was great and in good condition. It was comfortable and the heated seats were great! The discount fob/token for fuel was also handy, so do check that as well, and take note of where it is accepted. During our trip Blue emailed to inform us of a storm that was approaching and hitting the next day. We took their advice and did not drive that day, we opted to stay in the city instead, but it was great to know in advance. We felt informed and up to date with that side of their communication. I have given Blue 4 stars as I feel they could update the GPS systems and their communication around the condition of the car could have been quicker. They did advise me to check my spam, but I already had before emailing them. They could have just resent it rather than emailing to say to do this first. We had a good experience overall and we would definitely recommend Blue Car Rental. We will hopefully visit Iceland again soon, and when we do, we will look to use them again.

We have rented a Kia Rio from Blue Car rentals and our experience was good. Given that the weather is not bad, a small car like this it’s fine even for bigger distances. However, an SUV or a 4x4 would be more appropriate/in storms and bad weather. The service was excellent during pick up and drop off time. The only company in Iceland that prepayment is not needed. They also informed us by email on which roads were closed/dangerous during the storm. I will definitely recommend it to friends and choose it again when I will visit Iceland for 2nd time. The only negative thing was that they have charged my credit card for a parking fee, 5 times the amount of the fee without any notice.
We got a 4x4 car from blue car rental for our trip the car was in excellent condition And clean .only 3 minutes walk from the airport , pick up and drop off took only a few minutes with no hidden fees . I would definitely rent from them when I visit Iceland again.
