Extremely easy to get the policy, no elaborate questioning and simple and straight forward.. Have not travelled yet or need to claim so do not know how that will be.

You can usually get through on the phone without a wait which is rare these days. Pleasant staff (particularly Cathrine) who lead you through the health questions without making you feel uncomfortable about all your ailments!! Did once have to make another call before my documents were emailed but otherwise a great service all round.

For a not-for-profit organisation, CSIS's pricing can be very disappointing. Service and staff are very good, but in the end I got fed-up with haggling about premiums every year. That's not what I expected to have to do. In the last three years my home insurance premium went up by 14%, 5% and 23% respectively. Part of the reason for this is the cost of living, I was told. I left the CSIS for that same reason, and because I was able to get the same cover with Aviva for less than what I paid 10 years ago with CSIS. Yes, I may have to challenge them too next year, but I couldn't say no to a saving of £300+ !

The staff @ CSIS are always helpful, polite & quick to check policy details & answer any queries. I found them the best motor, home & travel insurance advisors & have been with them very many years. The only ssue recently has been phoning in & having to wait ages in a queue to spk to an agent to deal with insurance related matters. This never used to happen Last time I called, after waiting over 40 min, I resorted to an e-mail. This was mainly effective, but can never replace speaking to an agent. I have been with CSIS for many years, always helpful, pleasant staff and I feel that I am covered by a good insurance, no problem ringing through and speaking with someone.

Easy application process, although strange to be paper based. Maybe this keeps the costs down as the scheme is good value for those with health conditions. Some of the wording confused me, such as the exclusion if you were unfit to travel on the start of the trip. It read to me as if you had no cover in this situation, but what it actually meant was that this was only the case if you still travelled - so why not say that!

I completed an online quote request, disclosing Lung Cancer (with the Lung being the primary site of the cancer) which was diagnosed as 'possible' spread to Adrenal Gland. I Received online quotations which were very reasonable. To ensure everything went smoothly I decided to call CSIS and pursue the situation. I initially applied via the NARPO route, but that route would no cover Lung Cancer. I was advised that other routes were available. I talked through the existing health condition with the staff member on the telephone, explaining the cancer started in the lung, was initially thought to have spread to the Adrenal Gland. I actually read from the original Consultant letter from 2019 when the cancer was first diagnosed, and read from the most recent letter which stipulates Lung only cancer and the fact that it was now (and has been for 2 years) stable. I received quotes for both European and Worldwide Travel Insurance Cover, and opted for and paid in full for the Worldwide Cover. About 90 minutes later I received a telephone call from CSIS, stating there was an issue. Apparently the initial staff member had ticked the wrong box which stated the cancer had spread 'to' the lung, and as a result the Insurance cover sold to me would have to be cancelled. Naturally I queried this and was told they could NOT offer me any Travel Insurance Cover. This is worrisome for a couple of reasons; 1. Are staff trained adequately to offer sale and quote on pre existing medical conditions? 2. Others may be travelling on insurance cover that doesn't actually cover their pre existing medical conditions. 3. Will I now have lodged against me with any central insurance database a notice of Insurance Cancellation? When the mistake was made by CSIS and NOT BY ME. Be wary choosing this organisation or the same problems, mistakes, errors or incompetence's could also befall you. Ian Lavery

The online quote for car insurance was very competitive but I would have liked a little bit more information about what was included/excluded. When I phoned up to clarify that though, i got through reasonably quickly and the advisor was helpful and thorough. I have no experience yet of the claims process ( I hope I don't need to) but everything is positive so far

I think it has got more expensive and is not really competitive now. I will be shopping around for car and household insurance next year. The travel insurance isn’t even worth considering its so expensive
