Great kit guitars ~ fast delivery and well packaged. Good experience putting these together. To make it a perfect player you'll need a bit of knowledge with dressing the frets, nut height adjustment and overall body and neck set up - once the correct player balance has been achieved there awesome fun...finishing my second kit guitar from Coban at the moment and will start my third shortly :)

Excellent service and delivery ahead of schedule. This is my sixth kit and as always nothing missing. My only criticism is the quilted veneer is quite roughly finished and will need a lot of careful preparation compared to the 5 previous kits. But then that’s the challenge of doing it from scratch so 5 stars still deserved. Might be an idea to do random checks on consignments when they come into stock as I am aware these were Out of stock kits and probably shipped out as soon as they arrived from the docks. Superb quality. 2-piece ash, glued with brain, wood on the light heavy side, but for the price absolutely ok. Quick delivery, no sealer which is good. Not my last one!

Bought Cobans P-bass kit as a lockdown project. Good quality woods and nicely finished. Can't comment on pots or pups because not assembled yet. My partner is going to do some pyrography art work on the body and headstock before I start work on it. But so far, so good. Much better than I was expecting for the price. Plus replies to to a couple of tech queries were replied to speedily. Thankyou Mark. Well done Coban.

My new Bass arrived and I'm delighted with it. A lovely looking thing that I am really looking forward to building. Over the next few weeks I will have earned the nickname Sandy Dustington !

Very helpful, professional and prepared to assist, Guitar kit appears to be good quality and Coban are ready to answer any problems. Fast Courier delivery was first class. Initially minor hiccup with missing instructions, which Coban rectified straight away. Very pleased; just have to build it now.

Bought a PRS kit as a lockdown project - my first guitar build. Whilst the instructions were a little vague, especially as to which screws go where, I managed to work it out with the help of the internet. I found I was a small locking nut short which Coban sent very quickly, given the circumstances, so can't fault the customer support either. The only extras I bought were staines/finishing oil and copper foil tape to earth out the pickup recesses Turned out a good looking very playable guitar

I'd probably give the kit 4.5 stars but the option isn't available. This is my second kit by Coban Guitars the first being a LP style that actually turned out very good indeed. This kit is the PRS style with the spalted maple top. Very nice that I had the option to pick the body I wanted and was delivered a day after payment. The body itself did need more finishing work as lots of places around the binding had un removed glue residue and the glue can cause problems when painting or finishing. The book matching of the top ( it's very thin ) is excellent with fantastic figuring and patterns to it. The neck fitment is perfect and the standard hardware is ok for the price and would work great. I prefer to add better quality components eg pots/capacitors/wiring/switch/jack and I will be fitting some iron gear pickups into it. The tuners are ok and seem to work but I had some old Grover's from a Epiphone I might use. The bridge is actually very good indeed and that will be getting used for sure. I've put about 20hrs into the kit so far to get it ready for stain bit I'm sure you could do it a lot quicker. Like the un shaped headstock so you can do want you want. I will send pics to them once I've finished but being lockdown I'll spend longer on the guitar to get it as good as I can. Can't recommend them enough if you want a quality kit shipped from the UK. As soon as the lefty LP kits come back in stock I will be building another for sure.

No indication on the pickups to where they should go or the pots fèeding the wires was also quite tricky haven't tried it yet as I have no amp.

UPDATE: Mark from Coban guitars has been in touch since this review went up and has tried to help rectify the issues. He has informed me that they do offer a service where they can take some pictures of the relevant stock and you can choose from those. I would suggest people take that offer up if they are buying 'interesting' woods. I will preface this review by saying I have not gone back to Coban directly to complain, so I can't comment on the customer service. The body I bought was in the clearance section of the website, but no defects were listed (as with some other reduced kits and bodies), so I assumed there were no issues. Unfortunately, there were quite a few. There is very little spalting on the the body I received - very different to the picture. The 'top' is actually a veneer (although that is mentioned further down in the description, so no issues with that, maybe should be in the title though). The veneer has been sanded through in a number of places, with glue showing through, so I will need to do some repair work to try and disguise that. The product is listed as coming with a free veneer sample, which didn't arrive. I'm absolutely new to guitar building, so I stand to be corrected, but I thought the central line on the guitar was very important. The central line on the veneer does appear to be in the right place, and the pickup holes are in the right place with respect to the line. However the pickup holes are cut at a slight angle, and the routing is pretty much all over the place. The neck pocket is off the centre line by quite a way, although this can be seen in the example on the website. This will mean quite a lot of fudging around if I want the neck to be straight, and the pickups to line up (which I do). As this is my first build, I decided that I will keep it and use these issues as a challenge to see if I can still produce something nice. I think if I'd known a bit more about building guitars before I impulse bought this, I would have asked a few more questions. will reiterate that this body was in the clearance section, but I think it would have been fairer if the issues had been documented a bit more clearly, and potentially a bigger discount from the regular price would have been reasonable, given the issues. If Coban do see this review, it would be nice if they could send a veneer sample, so that I can test my finish, as I will need to minimise the amount of sanding I do on the veneer.
