Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
I am having a horrible experience with Cyclescheme. I was issued my certificate on 1 Jul for Evans Cycles. I was expecting to redeem online as advertised by both Evans and Cyclescheme. I tried the day my certificate was issued and was not able to. I contacted Evans customer services and nothing back in advertised 24hr period, tried again and nothing, 3rd time I emailed and included Cyclescheme and registered a complaint. Evans came back to me and said they do not operate cyclescheme online quoting T&C burried in their website (not displayed anywhere on any Cyclescheme advertising). All the advertising on Cyclescheme and Evans website said I could redeem online. In fact Cyclescheme highlighted Evans as a key online partner in one advert so I was not expecting to have problems. With delays caused by Evans customer services it was now 3 Jul. I was worrying about the 14 day cooling off period for the certificate so I phoned Cyclescheme customer services. I told them what had happened and that Evans wanted me to go in store and I could not redeem the certificate online, Cyclescheme argued that this was always the case and that I would need to go in store as advised. I asked about the cooling off period and was advised it had started on 22 Jun and it was now 1 Jul, this period would expire on Tue 6 Jul. I explained that both Evans and Cyclescheme had advertised I could redeem online and that I considered this misadvertising and illegal under the UK retail law. Cyclescheme customer services said they would escalate the complaing but not get back to me until 3 working days - 7 Jul. They offered to change the vendor on the ticket but I explained I had already spent considerable time and effort researching the bike and components I wanted and I would visit Evans Cycles store as advised. I contacted Evans customer services informing them the same and asked them to contact the store to ensure I had no problems processing my order. The next day I visited Evans store in Havant. I had printed out all the order items and spoke with a member of staff in store. He helped me and processed my order. He was unable to order the bike as there was a back office computer problem that affected that specific bike. He offered to sell me a more expensive bike without the accessories I needed but I decided to stick with the bike I wanted. He said some very uncomplimentary things about Evans and Customer services. He asked me to leave the cyclescheme certificate with him and his manager would sort it all out on the Monday. I left the store with nothing. On the Monday I phoned the store and there was only 1 member of staff working and no manager, he was uncontactable. I made further complaint to both Evans and Cyclescheme customer services as no single party was taking responsibility for the problems I had encountered but I considered them both accountable. I included the full order details and asked please would they sort it out and just order the bike and accessories and tell me when it was in store to collect, and to please provide reasonable compensation for the inconvenience. Evans claimed there was no issue but started processing the order and sent me an invoice. Cyclesheme eventually got in touch and told me about all the problems they had with Evans during lockdown. They offered me a £30 Evans voucher and gave me a sob story about the bike industry and how it had been a difficult year etc. Which I do not despute - it has been a difficult year for everyone. In a 1.5hr telephone conversation where they desputed facts (I had sent them the advertising material) Cyclesheme said they had not had a chance to look at it yet but they desputed misadvertising but also accepted they had a lot of advertising from Evans on their site and it had been difficult to update it. They also stated that it was Cyclesheme that had caused the problem with the online ordering as they had removed access to the API from evans because of the circa 1400 complaints they had to deal with over the last year which is why they had £30 vouchers to give out. I was a bit taken back by all of this. I explained that for the time and inconvienence caused that £30 voucher was insulting. Cyclesheme went on to say - "I'll tell you what I'm going to do, I'll guarentee delivery of the bike and accessories for you" I said that was the very least they should do and was the basic offer not anything above. I explained that I was not happy and wanted reasonable compensation. I wasn't allowed to discuss what that was, Cyclescheme took me back round in circles desputing the misadvertising claims etc. so after approx 1.5hr over we finally got to discussing that. They provided £120 Evans Vouchers compensation. I managed to pick up the bike last week but it was missing the padlock and am still in disccussion with customer services to resolve. Not happy at all.
Very good scheme, the scheme enabled me to purchase a better model of bike than I would normally have looked at.
Helped me to get a bike I would nor normally be able to afford (Or consider buying) and get the bike through a reputable company. I was able to trial the bike for a day and pick the o be I wanted. I'm paying over 12 months. I'm taking more ownership of my cycling and cycle to work at least three times per week! Winner!
Glad I took up my Cyclescheme Company offer for my new e-bike! This from an out of shape non-gym goer even pre-COVID who badly needed to do exercise...any exercise! Was happy to learn you Don't Have To Cycle Into Work EVERY Day just enough to ensure that the bike is used 'mainly for work'. Scheme though simple to use do be aware you have to have all ducks in a row Before you apply so know exact costings & only one supplier so choose well. Once applied got certificate smoothly and work pay deduction monthly very cost efficient for me - never able to afford it otherwise. E-Bike is marvelous as now can pedal without embarrassment so I enjoy the ride....cannot recommend enough people - what do they say....Just Do IT
Today I rang with a query which was addressed immediately and resolved. The agent was extremely helpful and precise, he was a great listener and great to speak with. His name was Jiro, I could not recommend him enough. He is a credit to the team. Thanks Jiro - Ireland
Great benefit to help get you into a Bike. Was easy to apply and quick to process.
The web site is easy to use, and they keep you updated on progress towards getting your certificate. All queries answered within the 2 day window that they advise. Overall, it works well, and gets you cycling at a reduced cost. Definitely recommended!
I applied for my cycle to work voucher which was ready within 2 weeks... I shopped about for my bike as I knew exactly what I wanted, when I decided on which bike company to go with which was Evans bikes I was very happy with the service I got the staff were extremely helpful with the bike and accessories which I needed. If you are deciding about the cycle to work scheme I would definitely recommend it to anyone as your getting a great discount and getting healthy and fit at the same time.
It's a good scheme. Why would you not (a) spread the cost of your purchase over a year, and (b) save on tax? The salary sacrifice process was explained clearly and the county council I work for issued the certificate quickly. There were only two small downsides that I encountered. (1) If you're on a lower income then what you can spend on a bike is limited. This - presumably - is for legal reasons (so your salary isn't reduced below the tax threshold). That's understandable - but it does mean that if you're after an electric bike, your choice is a bit limited. (2) My retailer had delivery problems. Again, that's understandable, given the current state of the world - and is hardly the fault of the Cyclescheme process. At the end of the day I got the bike I wanted with very little hassle, my payments are spread monthly, and I'm paying less. Can't argue with that.
It is excellent scheme. You can get your new bike and you can save lots of money. Whole process from initial application to getting your bike was so easy and straightforward.
The redemption certificate code won't work and is about to expire! No help online via the website and no ones replying to my email.
Easy to follow online application process. Once you find a cycle shop that has the bike you want, the savings made allow you to go for the best bike in your budget range. Having access to a quality comfortable bike encourages you to get out more often during the day.
Excellent service
I thought the scheme admin worked very well - it took less than three weeks from filling in the application to picking up the bike. I now have an excellent bike and will save around a third of the price - so having a much higher quality bike than I would have bought if paying full price. Congrats to Cyclescheme for making it easy.
Simple puy. I get a great bike well above what I normal can afford . I get nearly 800 off the bike due to tax cut . All in brilliant. I just gave up my car licence due to my eye disease and this will keep me on the road for work. It cost me 17 pounds off my weekly wage and I not putting 55 fuel in so 38 better off. My only complaint would be bike stock low so it take a few weeks to get your voucher to then find out ur bike not in stock. But not really the scheme fault covid sadly and lots off people buying bike so highly recommended but add a little on to what bike value u want to get u some sercuity locks as well as the bike
It is excellent scheme. You can get your new bike and you can save lots of money. If you are in doubt to use it or not just don't think anymore just use this program.
This process was so slick and easy. Straightforward and informative.
I am a 51 year old female who had not ridden a bike in 20 years. This scheme allowed me to get back on the bike. I cycle to work now, helping the environment is all our responsibility now. The bike was made affordable thorough monthly payments to my employer. I am also now fitter! Highly recommend the cyclescheme
Yes it was easy to apply for the token to get a bike and its a great idea But the amount that was offered to me would of got a child bike not a bike I need for work so I had to borrow the money off family to get one
