Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
Very nice scheme. Helped me save up about 40 percent of what I would have paid for my bike.
This is the first time I have Applied and I found it relatively easy, it took about two weeks from start to finish and I bought my bike from Decathalon in Wednesbury . All in all a good scheme and I will use it again.
Applied and accepted in october after emailing 3 times still had no reply and am still waiting to get my certificate for my bike im pretty sure i have nearly paid my bike off now withouth actually being able to get one
A very simple process to get a bike through this scheme. There are a lot of retailers operating the scheme, resulting in a broad choice of bikes and accessories. If your employer is a member of the scheme, you will save a small fortune by getting a bike this way. What's not to like?
The scheme is an incentive not a grant. It wouldn't let me do it because I don't earn enough and it would cause my employer to pay me less than the minimum wage. Great for those that don't need it. Useless for those that do. I will just have to keep commuting in my old people carrier car.
Excellent from start to finish and I have a beautiful e-bike, bought locally, and now losing those lockdown love handles!! Thank you!
Great support via email and on the phone. Changed my purchase shop for me over the phone and provided great advice.
Great idea and service. My employer had signed up for this and i read all the small print. As long as one is happy that they do not own the bike outright until all the payments have been made then this is a great scheme. Due to supply issue, my bike arrives in June this year and the local dealer Corleys will help with Bike Fit and accesories (helmet and shoes). The process for the application took approximately 3 weeks but now cannot wait for my road bike to arrive. Plus i save a lot of money and spread my payments over 12 months with no Interest.
I love my new bike and think that the salary sacrifice scheme is a great way of paying for it. The outcome overall was good. However, it took nearly 6 weeks from starting the application to getting the certificate and I had to spend a lot of time chasing people to get it sorted. I was disappointed to find that I was given a certificate for £50 less than I applied for - this is because although I completed a PDF application and submitted a quote for the true cost of the bike, the scheme seems to ignore this and go off the estimation that I gave when I set up the online application. If you are considering using this scheme, I recommend that you estimate over the cost of what you think you will pay, if you don't know the true cost of the bike when you start the application.
I've used the scheme before and again found it easy and quick to set up. Still waiting on my bike due to supply issues but payments have started which I don't mind. I've read other peoples issues around owning the bike but it's just the way the scheme works due to the tax relief you receive but it's not like the bike isn't really yours just because you're initially hiring it. I found no issues with this the last time I used scheme and nobody came and took it off me!!.. 👍
Found the scheme lacking. No clear indication Halfords run a competition scheme and not included in this one. Also only two weeks to cancel while was waiting for a bike to be in stock again.I cancelled in the end and bought bike myself
I have recently used the Cycle Scheme to purchase myself a new bike, helmet, lock and lights. I also made use of the free 7 days insurance that they offer. A really good scheme that has made it easy for me to go and purchase some really good equipment that will help me to stay in shape for my role, reduce my carbon footprint and commute to work. Would recommend the scheme to anyone.
The scheme is good and the potential to save a significant amount of money is also good, but this seems to be on paper only. That's where the positive stops, I reserved a bike applied for the Scheme the next day and now more than a month later still no certificate or bike. In fact just about to miss out on the bike as the shop can't hold onto it for much longer and the only similar bike that is available is slightly more expensive, so will need to start the process all over again if I miss my reserved bike . I have made numerous calls to the scheme, emailed my employer but still no closer to getting a certificate or even possibility of getting one. Very frustrating - AHHHH!
Straight forward, saved over £600 on the bike I purchased on the scheme .would highly recommend if your looking to buy a new bike
I took the CycleScheme opportunity from the school and cannot recommend it highly enough. Straightforward, easy process from application to collection of the bike. Great way to have interest (& tax) free spending.
This feels like a scam...so you save a little bit of money on tax but you don’t own the bike after one year unless you pay like 200 or you do for 4 yrs...seems overly complicated.... why can’t we just buy the bike and spread the cost over a year and save on tax as an incentive to get ppl to cycle. We need eco initiatives that pay people to get onboard not some weird rental or hire purchase agreement for a bike.
Took up this scheme for the opportunity of a new bike to ride to work. Finding the way through the site want as easy as others I've seen but eventually got through as processed. The only thing I'd say is that the maximum £1k doesn't get you as far as it used to as the prices of bikes have shot up, so limiting choices (a County complaint as opposed company). Also, how great would being able to find an electric bike be, that would be beneficial for those travelling slightly further in if maximum was raised. But, process straightforward.
This is the second time I have used the scheme, and this time I started the process a month ago and got my bike last week, so approximately 3-4 weeks from the initial search and application. Supers simple and super clear what is happening. I would use a recommended store as I did, and they explained it very well. Bikes are generally at a shortage right now (Feb 2021) so if you are thinking about it, its something I would do very soon as bike stocks as massively decreasing for 2021 already. Great way to get a bike!
Very easy scheme to join saved a lot of money 💰 Very happy with my bike
