Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
This was a much easier process than I anticipated.

Love that Cyclescheme makes buying a good bicycle affordable. Also the process was fairly simple to navigate.
Straightforward process throughout. Simple and easy to use.
It is so easy to join in on cycle scheme, you save lots of money, increase your fitness levels and save money on petrol and do your little bit to reduce your own carbon footprint (this will now be the fifth bike I've had through the scheme)
I’ll good to everyone who loves cycling to work and I can recommend to all. Fantastic scheme.
Very straight forward process and user friendly.
Very quick service had my new bike in no time
This is a great scheme. It is well organised and you get clear updates.
the cycle scheme needs an overhaul. The rules are so petty it makes the scheme fairly useless. There's a long delay in applying for the scheme to actually getting a code, in which time prices & stock availability can change. Deductions are taken from your salary before you've purchased the bike. Once you select which retailer you want to use it's impossible to change. There is no way of paying any difference in price if an accessory puts you little over the value of your voucher. It's insane! I chose a bike that was £25 less than the value of the voucher so that I could get some lights and then had to spend ages looking for an accessory that was exactly £25 (as most lights were over 25), there wasn't even an option for me to get £30 and pay the £5 difference! This is mental, there should be a threshold that allows people to complete a transaction even if it's slightly over the voucher amount.
It's great to have this scheme in place but I was unable to get both the equipment and the bike I wanted from the same retailer. The time it takes to process the voucher also meant that some things had sold out or changed price meaning I found myself having to get different items to those I originally wanted. It would be great if the voucher could be approved up to a maximum amount then you were only charged for what you actually use and if you could use it across multiple retailers.
Good value and worked well. There was a small glitch signing the contract initially, so that had to be repeated and miraculously it worked the second time, with no obvious difference.
My employer was very slow to sort this out and it took nearly 3 months to get my voucher. I was paying for a benefit I didn't have.
It was so hassle free. My old bike gave up the ghost on Thursday, applied to a Cycle to Work scheme on the Friday. Got my certificate back the next day. Went to Evans and picked a brand new Trek on the Sunday.
Love my new bike - the scheme was super easy and saves me loads every month
Very nice scheme to encourage cycling. Clear guidance and quick support. Wide range of options of retailers.
A great way to reduce the cost and spread the payment. I heard about Cyclescheme in a previous job and was interested. I've eventually taken the steps this year and I'm glad that I have.
It was a simple and straightforward process and my request was processed quickly thereafter.
Really easy and straightforward application process. The time between applying and getting my bike was less than three weeks! Today was my first ride to work and it was really easy and quicker than driving and way quicker than public transport! Very happy.
