Aug 21,2021If you’re nervous about sending a bunch of money to a distant company for a custom-made product that is >ABSOLUTELY< non-returnable and non-refundable, YOU SHOULD BE! I’m a good do-it-yourselfer, but I’ve never replaced stair treads before. Even so, I used StairSupplies.com "Design Service" and was optimistic that they would guide me through selecting and purchasing the correct stair treads. I sent my stair dimensions, photographs, even VIDEOS in addition to numerous emails. Then I selected what I thought were the correct stair treads and asked my design consultant to REVIEW MY CART before I made my purchase to be sure I picked the right stuff. My salesperson said it all looked OK – and didn’t ask a single question. After all of that, it turns out that I selected the wrong stair treads and my salesperson didn’t notice the error. Recognizing partial responsibility on my part, I offered to absorb full cost of return shipping, but StairSupplies.com wasn’t interested because their product is custom-made and custom-stained. So… $1800 wasted. They offered a slight discount on repurchasing more stairs, but I had lost confidence in their willingness to stand behind their product/service and didn’t want to get in any deeper with them. The stairs themselves were OK, although 3 of the 12 stair treads had a 3/8” warp in them – the others were OK. If I had ever installed them, the 3 warped treads would have been a challenge to flatten. During pre-sale StairSupplies.com would respond immediately to my messages, but once I had a problem, that all ended. I had to really chase them down by phone and email to get any responses. StairSupplies.com was a terrible Internet purchasing experience for me. In hindsight, I wish I had used a local vendor where I could see what I was buying before purchasing it. I recommend you look elsewhere for stair treads.

Aug 19,2021Great product but terrible customer service. Original order came without the handrails so we had to wait an additional month to get the handrails. The 2nd time the handrails were supposed to arrive, they got lost for another week. 3 posts came mis-drilled so we had to re-order the posts. One handrail piece came too short and had to be re-ordered. We were missing over 100 pieces of hardware and a handrail cap. Instead of bending over backwards to help a customer, we were continually questioned as if they didn't believe us. In the end, they said that since we waited over a month to install the system, they couldn't verify that the parts weren't delivered so they made us pay over $400 to get the hardware and parts. The only reason we waited a month was because we didn't have the handrail to install the system! Really bad exerience...I've spent 4-5 hours dealing with material issues and StairSupplies really didn't seem to care. Nice enough people, they just don't care about customer service or return customers.

I would order from them without hesitation as everything has been smooth, quick, and professional. They are experts at what they do and it really shows. Their quality of work what’s outstanding. This was a value added system to help my wife’s mobility in our two story home!

Jul 29,2021The design and ordering process was smooth, all questions were answered in a timely fashion. Everything worked out with design and materials, with the exception of 1 post that was a 3rd right hand instead of my 2nd left hand on one of the stair runs. This was replaced along with a couple of handfuls of crimp fittings, sleeve caps and other misc at no cost. Those materials arrived within 7 days.

Jul 27,2021Viewrail gets one star for having overall generally nice people to work with, but while I would love to give them more than that, their pipeline is just too sloppy and unreliable. To start with, the sales rep assured me that they would send more balusters than would be required. Then, when installation started, the design was actually short several balusters. The instructions that were included were for a totally different design, and none of the youtube videos matched the system I purchased. Getting the correct instructions required me to call and eventually get an appropriate (and overall perfectly nice) human on the phone, who then had to dig around in their system for a few minutes and email them to me. The packing list had random parts that were not actually for my design, which I paid for and are now unnecessary and useless. The difference between how the sales rep described the system vs what was actually delivered is frankly astonishing! It was a comedy of issues, all of which slowed down the project, caused a ton of additional on-the-site design thinking and extra work from my , and made the project way harder than it would have been if everything was as described. Oh, and did I mention that they billed me hundreds more to ship the parts that they missed in the original design phase? Because yeah, that happened and also felt really annoying. I don't know what tools and quality control practices they are using, but they should try different ones.

Could have used a little more help during the ordering process as I wasn't sure what might be an important consideration/addition, having never ordered this product before. A little "steering" toward some additional considerations or upgrades would have been helpful based on the company's prior experience with their sales to regular consumers, not contractors. Just things to think about before final acceptance of the order. Otherwise the product itself is of very good quality, and when I ran into a problem it was resolved satisfactorily. Also, for those of us on the west coast, extended Customer Service hours would have been VERY helpful !

I was so happy to be working with Stair Supplies on my recent order. Great products, fantastic responsive service. On our installation day, I was even able to call and get immediate assistance while we were working. My project is now done and everything is perfect. It takes a lot for me to say that. Jun 28,2021If you are installing yourself be prepared to get very frustrated. They provide a huge instructions binder with an insane amount of steps. The hardware looks very nice but its very overpriced and made from very soft metal that strips easily. The rod level anchors are also very flimsy, not exactly something you want in a railing. I did my stairs in the house and planned to do our much larger deck after... Ill stick to wood. We will most likely tear this out and put up wood because we are worried its unsafe.

Jun 21,2021I bought about 600.00 bux worth of hardware. Surprisingly, it was not that much stuff. But I needed a new set of the crimping dies and they wanted to charge me 50.00 for the set. I ended up buying the crimper and two sets of the dies on eBay for the same 50.00.

Aug 23,2021We ordered wood stair parts from this company specifically because they would stain them for us...at significant additional cost, of course. We knew that staining would be difficult for us to do properly, so we wanted professionals to handle it. The first item we opened was a newel post, and immediately upon opening the box, we saw that several spots were missing stain. A quick glance around the post showed drips where the stain was not properly applied. One post having been stained poorly would be acceptable, but all of the posts we ordered were similar in condition. One of our other items was badly damaged in transit and was unusable. Contacted the company, and after showing pictures, they ordered a replacement, so that was fairly painless. We told them that we would have to have most of the remaining pieces re-stained because they were not done properly but did not want their company to do it...too much hassle and they had already messed it up once. Pictures were once again sent to show them the poor workmanship on the staining. I suppose it's our fault for not fighting it more, but beyond a simple apology, we were offered nothing for the negative experience...not even a partial refund. We spent A LOT of additional money to have these pieces professionally stained and could have done a much better job ourselves. To top it off, the replacement item arrived and was also damaged all along one side. It is usable, but we will have to spend additional money to repair it as well. Overall, the quality of the wood pieces is good, but I would NOT spend the additional money to have them stained. There is a good chance you will have to redo it yourself, and you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere. As a side note, we purchased all other stair parts at other companies because they were significantly cheaper.
