Very helpful staff. I did the medical programme in Kenya and had the best time there. The office they work with is of the highest professional standards and I could not have asked for a better experience there. Hoping to book another volunteering trip with them soon!
I spent 3 weeks in Sri Lanka doing the childcare program with the 10 day travel experience in between. I loved spending time with the children, teaching them English phrases and playing with them in the garden. The travel experience was definitely the highlight of the trip! We saw such a variety of things from surfing and stick fishing in Mirissa to a safari and climbing Lion’s Rock. Karu was an excellent tour guide and kept us well informed throughout the whole trip, taking us out for several amazing dinners in Ella. Overall, all of the staff at The Mighty Roar were very helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience!
I spent an incredible four weeks with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka, volunteering for a week on their Sea Turtle program and three weeks on their Childcare program. I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering and found the Childcare Programme to be very fulfilling and rewarding. It was great experience assisting at the kindergarten and having the opportunity to teach the children English words and phrases. I also went on the Hill Country and Safari weekend trip, organised by the TMR team. The trip was well organised and enabled me to see many of the wonders of Sri Lanka without having to worry about arranging transport and accomodation myself. The local team were always very helpful and friendly, answering any questions we had and supported us with local trips/transport. The local team also organised activities within the week such as kayaking, surfing, football, volleyball, and a kareoke night (just to name a few!) which was really nice to get involved in. Overall, I have had an incredible experience volunteering with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka and will cherish the memories I have made during my time!
My experience with the mighty roar was absolutely amazing. This was my first ever solo trip and the best decision I have ever made! All the staff are absolutely lovely, the room was amazing and the drivers were absolutely amazing too. The mighty roar team are extremely well organized and there to offer a helping hand in all situations. I had the most amazing time with the mighty roar and have made friendships and memories that I will cherish for life!!!
Meeting new people, discovering new animals, fun activities and of course the amazing coordinator's made my trip a dream.
I spent 5 months in Busua volunteering with the medical programme and school and had the best experience ever. I learnt so much from the hospital staff and they were so welcoming and eager to answer all questions. We went to the private school (future leaders) and set up a wound dressing clinic where both the students and teachers were so greatful for our help there. Free wound dressing clinics were also set up by us volunteers every Thursday 2pm outside Dadsons where the community came if they needed any wounds cleaned and dressed. It was so nice to give back to the community that welcomed us in and they were all so greatful for the free clinic! The local team are so welcoming and supportive. Any issues or problems Dinah goes above and beyond to help and make sure you’re okay and happy. The local community is also lovely and super chatty and helpful. The food provided is AMAZING and the trips provided are also an amazing experience. When not volunteering there are so many things to do: dance classes, surfing, trips to the market, waterfall trips, volley ball on the beach, canoe rides along the lagoon in Butre and so many more mini adventures. Overall I had the best five weeks and will 100% be returning in the near future!
I have just competed one month of volunteering on The Mighty Roar’s teaching programme in Sri Lanka. The local team are extremely helpful and friendly, with them being constantly on hand to answer any questions and support us with local trips/transport. I also went on the Hill Country and Safari trip, organised by the TMR team, which was an incredible experience. The trip was well organised, good value for money and enabled me to experience the beautiful sights and culture of Sri Lanka. The accommodation is kept very clean and tidy, providing lots of opportunities to socialise in communal areas and to eat local home cooked food during the week. The teaching programme can lack organisation and direction at times however it was highly fulfilling, and I feel I have gained valuable experience teaching in another country. Overall it has been an amazing trip, full of lovely people and once in a lifetime experiences.
Turtle Conservation Project Kefalonia A great experience for 18-20s. I would recommend alternative volunteer programs for older participants as this is very much a young person’s gig. I am a sixth form teacher and I would definitely recommend this volunteering experience to my students. And such a beautiful location in Kefalonia.
I spent a month with TMR in Sri Lanka for my medical elective. It was such an incredible experience! The whole team are so kind and friendly, thank you so much Ayomi, Charith, Taksi, Lilly, Gavi. Sithumi, Nihal and everyone else! It was such a beautiful and safe place to stay, and I was able to explore so much of Sri Lanka on my weekends there, with great recommendations from the TMR team. The accommodation is lovely, and we got to know the team so well which was so nice. The hospitals we were based in were great, the doctors were so accommodating and friendly, and it was really interesting learning more about traditional Ayurvedic medicine on our weekly visits to the Ayurvedic hospital. I really recommend TMR for medical students thinking of doing their elective in Sri Lanka! Thank you again for such a brilliant trip!
This is my second year in a row being back in Moshi, Tanzania volunteering in childcare. I cannot recommend coming to Tanzania enough, the people, the culture, the food the general way of life is something you won’t ever want to leave behind, and being part of such an incredible and special programme lead by Alice and Emmanuel is just amazing. When I came last year i formed very close bonds with those that work for the programme, the hostel and the children at the daycare too. Being back and seeing the progress within just a year was a feeling I can’t describe. The endless support and hospitality from the team makes you feel so safe and welcome, and Moshi really has become my second home. I will be returning again in a few months, it is simply incredible.
What a fantastic experience! I went to Ghana for 2 weeks on the teaching program. The experience was so amazing and I was so lucky to meet such amazing volunteers who quickly became my friends and have an insight into the Ghanaian culture. Even though sometimes the planning was a little messy, Ghanaian mean time is definitely a thing, the freedom to explore and help for volunteers already there helped massively.
Absolutely incredible experience regarding conservation and visiting a new culture. What an incredible way to get involved in the community and make friends for life! The conservation could have a bit more scientific background but thoroughly enjoyed my time in Madagascar volunteering for 4 weeks doing turtle conservation.
I volunteered on the medical programme in Kenya and had an amazing time, the staff were so helpful and I felt very welcome throughout my whole stay.
Great experience, staff and planning.
Everyone that could have been lovely was indeed very lovely and very helpful.
Volunteering in Ghana for 3 weeks, the village of Busua was so inviting and such a community. Volunteering in the schools created amazing bonds with the children and it was an unforgettable experience! Dinah and the team were so helpful and had our best interest at heart!
I absolutely loved my trip to Thailand with the MR. I was part of the volunteer and travel group in July and genuinely had one of the most amazing experiences. I will say that there wasn’t as much volunteering as I was expecting (around 2-3 hours/day for four days) but that is because we were able to go around Bangkok and do things in the afternoons around the city as well. Met so many amazing people and highly recommend.
I did the teaching project for 3 weeks in Tanzania. It was the most incredible and rewarding experience. However, what made it really special was the amazing local team and staff at the Comfy Stay Hostel. I felt extremely safe at all times and nothing was ever too much of a bother, they really did make it feel like a second home. I will be back!🇹🇿🤍
I spent two weeks in Sri Lanka with the Mighty Roar doing childcare. I’m so happy I did this, I enjoyed every second of it. There are so many activities and places to see, fully involved in the culture. Thank you to Ayomi and her team for taking care of everyone!

Aug 10,2024I spent 4weeks in Ghana, July-August, volunteering as part of the teaching/childcare programme (there are not any differences between them). I split most of my time between Busua Methodist School: the Public School which is a 5min walk from the house, and Future Leaders: the Private School which requires a short 5min bus ride, at roughly the cost of 30cd to and fro (£1.50) After hearing of it on my last week, I also spent a day volunteering at The PeaceHome: a place for youth with learning difficulties and disability to be supported, to learn and to grow in a comfortable, safe and positive environment. The Peace Home is a10/15min walk from the house, located up to the right past Scorpion Lodge (if unsure of location ask a local!) I would definitely recommend spending time in all three schools as each one is different with a different style of teaching, different support systems (which is very interesting to see!) and most importantly.. different children!!! All of who love to see you, and all of who you will fall in love with. Each school is special and unique in its own way. After spending time in each you will quickly find the school best suited to you and you will have the time of your life! It is truly amazing. I would also recommend spending a day at Dixcove Hospital (a10/15min bus ride shared in price with other medical volunteers and the teaching volunteers at Future Leaders) The brilliant thing about TMR and Dinah+her team is the flexibility!! It is absolutely no problem to switch between different programs at different times. I spent 2days at Dixcove Hospital and was given so many opportunities that I would never ever experience here at home!! I am 17years old with absolutely no medical background and yet I was able to stand in and watch a C-Section, then be lucky enough to hold, in my arms, the baby girl I watched be brought into this world. A beautiful moment, one I will never forget. I also got to speak to many nurses and doctors, learning from each of them. A priceless experience!! One which would simply not be possible here. So my advice would be.. do all you can do!! No matter what your ‘qualifications’ or experience, as long as your comfortable and as long as your permitted to do so, take every opportunity that comes your way! TMR team in Ghana: Dinah, Abigail, Emanuel, Francis and Michael (and Mr John the bus driver!) are all absolutely fabulous. They make you feel at home immediately. They put you at ease and not one day passed where they don’t make you laugh and smile the biggest smile. They are so accommodating and so understanding, honestly go to them with any issue because they are only happy to help!!! Dinah and Abigail spend most of their day making breakfast, lunch and dinner for the volunteers through the week and the food is always delicious. Breakfast is a rotation of ‘Ghanaian style Pancakes’ (Crepes) or French toast each morning, served with chocolate sauce and on (rare) occasion a side of banana, mango, watermelon or pineapple. For lunch/dinner there is a wide variety and rotation of ‘European foods’ such as pasta, noodles, white rice, garlic bread, chicken, sausage..(all meat is served on the side and all meals are ‘help yourself’ so vegetarian friendly!) as well as some ‘local dishes’ like red red (my favourite!) jollof rice, yam balls or yam sticks, plantain… Dinah and Abigail work hard cooking to ensure there’s enough food for all of us; during peak season if the pot runs out sooner than anticipated, they are very good and will make more for you. The food cannot be faulted in any way and does keep you full and energised for the day ahead! Emanuel and Francis often organise coconut walks, island trips or market trips which are very enjoyable. Each night there are different activities like karaoke, painting and a quiz night, all hosted by Tina’s: a local restaurant where all volunteers go to (serves lovely food if your looking somewhere to try on the weekend!) or a games night in the nearby EcoLodge can also be easily organised to keep you entertained. If at any time you want accompanied home in the dark just ask Emanuel, Michael or anyone from TMR and they are always happy to do so! The time, effort and dedication each person puts into TMR is absolutely commendable and something I will never forget. TMR Team are always there to support you, answer all questions (no matter how silly they seemed to be at times) they will always look out for you, always make sure you have all you need and from day1 Dinah will make sure that you know you have someone to talk to if you need anything at all or any advice! The people of Busua + the people I met there, will always hold a close and special place in my heart. I have made friends for life and I have made memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.🇬🇭🇬🇭 Go! You won’t regret it, you’ll thank yourself❤️
