I had a brilliant experience with the mighty roar- I did 3 weeks volunteering and a weekend trip all organised by them and I had the best time and it all went very smoothly. Any questions I had whilst I was away and also during the lead up to the trip they were very easy to get hold of and all questions were clearly answered.

I don't think I can put into words how great my experience was in Ghana. From the first day we landed, I met some of the friendliest, most caring volunteers with whom I was going to spend the next 2 weeks. Not only, were my fellow volunteers amazing, but the whole team in Busua: Dinah, Emmanuel, Sylvester, Ebenezer, Laura, and so many more In terms of the teaching program, I developed strong bonds with the children of Future Leaders Academy, who were polite and friendly, making the goodbye even sadder. The food as well was amazing, not only at the main house, but also at the beachside café. Also, the weekend trip to the stilt village and Ankasa Rainforest was mesmerizing with beautiful views and peaceful nature. The only slight problem I had was that, at times, some of the events were not organized as well as they could have been, but I think that adds to the experience. I will definitely be recommending this organization to everyone!

This was my first time volunteering with a company and I’m so glad i went with The Mighty Roar. The process of getting everything sorted before the trip was very simple and the London office was easily contactable via email if I had any problems. I did the sea turtle conservation programme and I loved every second of it. The night time beach patrols with Mamu were so relaxing and we were lucky enough to see a sea turtle head back into sea after laying her eggs. Hatchery watch was also good, especially when the babies hatched. You had to do a beach clean each day but I also enjoyed this as there are lots of dogs along the beach that keep you company whilst doing it. The accommodation itself was great. Ayomi and her family genuinely care about the volunteers and if I had any issues they were addressed. I stayed here for two weeks but would have loved to have stayed longer as it wasn’t long enough. Ayomi also puts on one weekly activity which you can go to, we did a boat safari and kayaking. If you have the chance to go on any weekend trips you should. We were only able to go on the one trip which was the cultural triangle trip. This is a great way to get to know the other volunteers and see more of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka itself is beautiful, I felt safe whilst being there and everyone is very friendly. I can’t wait to return and thank the mighty roar for my experience.

TMR Sri Lanka was a great experience with great organisation and opportunity to learn about the local culture and several chances to spend time with locals playing cricket and football along with meditation session with a monk and several outings to the temples and to go surfing. The local team are kind and caring and make you feel at home. One criticism I would make would be I would not recommend the experience to those under 18. There is a lot of personal responsibility needed to do this programme and the staff there are not supposed to act as parents. There is a curfew in place during the week to prevent danger coming to the volunteers which unfortunately does not discrimate between those who are adults and those who are still children which did end up causing disagreements among those attending during my time there. I would hope in future the TMR team will respect the ideas and recommendations put towards them the same way they expect their rules to be followed. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at TMR sri lanka with special thank yous going to uncle and Thaksi for their hospitality

I had a lovely 4 weeks vollunteering in Sri Lanka. The Staff at the accommodation were lovely and very helpful and it's such a beautiful place with great places nearby to explore including Hikkaduwa and Galle which you can get to easily by bus. I would also recommend having a weekend in Colombo for 1 or 2 nights, an Uber to Colombo was about £30 so between a few people that's very good for a 2h drive, 3 of us stayed for 1 night in Port View City Hotel which was very affordable £30 for 3 people in a room so £10 each! Colombo was great for night life and restaurants! I did 2 weeks on the turtle program followed by 2 weeks on childcare each of these programs was only about 3h of volunteering a day which gave a lot more free time than expected and the vollunteering was very repetitive but still a good experience. The handbook definitely needs updating for what to expect and what to pack, when we arrived they told us it's best to wear white to the temple where was this in the handbook? It also says meals out are about £2 per meal this is not true it's about £5 which is still cheap for a meal out but not represented in the handbook. Additionally the vollunteering hours are more in the handbook than reality. Overall if the handbook is made to be as up to date as possible volunteers will be so much happier with there experience as they would be expected the reality before leaving. I remember one of the girls asking Chris why her hours are so much less for teaching than the handbook states and she was told that the handbook was out of date, surely this is a relatively easy task for the UK team to change just so people know what to expect. The food at the accommodation was pretty much always the same and generally very bland but I do understand it's very hard to cook for so many people but some variety would be nice, breakfast was good though (who doesn't love cake for breakfast 😂). Overall when it comes to food everyone spent more money on eating out then expected as they were disappointed by the food at the accommodation, I would really recommend Simple Restaurant down the road from the accommodation that has lovely affordable Sri Lankan food. I did the culture triangle weekend trip which was good however we saw nothing on the Safari which was disappointing but this may have been time of day/ year. I would also suggest to others coming in the future that the dress code is more relaxed then I thought it would be, I only needed to be dressed covering shoulder stomach and knees for the childcare volunteering and the Temples but other than that that clothing was more relaxed. A final tip is not everywhere takes card and if you paying for things at the accommodation this is cash only so when you arrive in Sri Lanka make sure to get a fair amount of cash out at the airport, there is also ATMs in Hikkaduwa nearby.

Such a good experience doing a medical elective here, the team were really helpful with everything especially Ayomi and Thaksi - two angels. They were really accommodating and facilitated many fun trips and any elective university requirements.

10/10 would recommend this experience. Ayomi is one of the sweetest people, always smiling and welcomes everyone into her home. She puts in a lot of effort to organise things outside of the standard hours of the volunteering program from meditation with a monk to various sports activities. We also spent a lot of time with Mammu whilst on the turtle program. He is a wonderful person with a great sense of humour and is always checking in on how your day is going. The rest of the family and staff were so welcoming, kind and show a genuine interest in getting to know all of the volunteers. I would suggest that anyone going in to this program, goes in with an open mind and embraces all of the experiences offered to you. I found that there was enough time to explore Akurala and the surrounding areas whilst also getting the most from your volunteering program. Sri Lanka is a beautiful place and this is a trip that I will forever be grateful for. I can not wait to return in the future and would recommend it to all.

It was an amazing experience and in many ways a privilege to help the animals which have suffered so much, it was incredibly hard work, but as another volunteer pointed out, "I don't want the animals to suffer, just because we're tired", which I thought was a wonderful way of looking at our time there. Thank you for the opportunity and for teaching us just what the animals have gone through.

I had an insane experience at the childcare programme in Bangkok. Mr Winyoo really gave his all to make everyone’s experience amazing. The accommodation was comfortable, we went on weekend trips and learnt so much! I am so great full to have had this experience and been able to meet and hopefully help all of the kind children in the schools. The only constructive criticism I would give is that not that much information is given on TMR, I think they should more closely communicate with the team in Thailand to give more details and a better idea of what life will be like in this volunteer programme.

A really wonderful experience in Sri Lanka. I did the childcare volunteering which was a really good experience and I really enjoyed interacting with the kids. There were aspects that were a bit disorganised but the staff were lovely and really helpful and overall the experience was amazing.

I recently completed my Medical Experience in South Africa and it was amazing. The whole process was smooth sailing and as compared to other companies , Mighty Roar was quite cheap. I wasn’t sure what to expect once I arrived in South Africa but I had the time if my life and would definitely go back again as a volunteer.

I’ve had the best month in sri lanka doing the travel volunteer experience along with the mental health and childcare programmes for a month. The travel experience was amazing and I couldn’t have had a better time thanks to Karu and our driver. Ayomi and the rest of the staff are really friendly and do everything they can to make you as comfortable as possible. The childcare was amazing and really fun! The only thing i’d improve is the organisation of the MH volunteering - I had a delayed start to the mental health programme and wasn’t able to experience as wide of a range of hospitals as the handbook suggested - we were mainly sent to one hospital every day of the week apart from an occasional visit to the herbal clinic and one visit to the NCMH. Nevertheless I had an amazing month and it’s something I will never forget.

I have had an amazing month doing the mental health placement and travel in Sri Lanka. The travel part was so great and jam-packed - a special thanks to Karu for looking after us all and making the experience so incredible. Ayomi and all the staff were so friendly and accommodating! They put in such an effort to make sure you have the best experience. I found the volunteering very interesting however the handbook was either out of date or mistaken as other than attending the herbal clinic I spent the whole time in one hospital which became quite repetitive. Other than that, everything was great and I have had such a lovely time - would highly recommend!

My experience was fantastic! The activities we completed throughout this trip could not have been done without Winyoo such as rafting, boxing, visiting rice fields and visiting many temples throughout Bangkok. This was the best experience I’ve had so far all thanks to Winyoo who was also able to educate us about the culture of Thailand while fitting in many fun activities along the way!! 10/10

I've volunteered with the mighty roar in Ghana twice now and I'm already planning my next trip to Busua. All of the staff are incredible, especially Dinah who always goes above and beyond to help you out. The locals are so friendly and welcome you with open arms and the kids are so full of joy. Every day offered a new experience, allowing me to see what life is really like in Ghana, whilst also making incredible friends along the way. I've made bonds for life and I can't wait to come back and see everyone again next year.

Had the best time in Ghana! Dinah, Laura, Emmanuel, sylvester and Michelle have made my time in Ghana the best so accommodating and welcoming couldnt of asked for better people looking after us. The weekend trips that were organised to cape coast and the stilt village were also amazing and again the host couldn’t do enough for us. Thankyou for the best 4 weeks so humbled to be able to gain an insight into how the local people live and going home with so many memories made.

The whole experience the past two weeks has been amazing. The many trips Winyoo kindly organised for us were all eye opening to the culture of Thailand and were great fun. My favourite trip would be the rafting and Thai boxing as it was competitive but very entertaining. Winyoo and his team have been very accommodating and have given us so much knowledge to take away from Thailand. I can not thank him enough for all he’s done for us.

I have loved doing my 4 week medical elective in Sri Lanka- it was the perfect mix of volunteering and getting to explore the beautiful island. The family we were living with were amazing and catered to our needs, including at times going out of their way to be accommodating. A special thank you to Ayomi who came with us to shop for hospital supplies, we really appreciated it! Thank you for an overall unforgettable experience, I would highly recommend going here for your medical elective.
