I’ve just finished my time at Nakavango and I’ve loved every second of it! I originally was staying for 2 weeks but I extended for another 10 days as I was enjoying my time so much! I learnt so much about the wild life in Africa the plants included! The team are super knowledgeable, friendly, and just a great time to be with day in day out! I would recommend Nakavango and the team to people thousand times over! I will for sure be back!
Dinah and the team were very accommodating, respectful, patient and friendly. They are hardworking people essential to the project.
I spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka helping out with the sea turtle and school programme. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I'll never forget!
the 3 weeks I spent in Sri Lanka doing the travel experience & sea turtle conservation project through TMR has been truly life changing. To describe my experience in as many words as Trust Pilot allows is near impossible, but to sum it up best I can, I felt entirely at home with the incredible staff (Ayomi, Charith, Thaksi, Karu, Maammu, Uncle, Aunty, and more) who made sure our every want and need were fulfilled, with compassion and joy, and who helped us fully dive in to the Sri Lankan culture, natural surroundings, and wonderful daily life. The volunteer accommodation in Akurala is welcoming, colorful, inspiring and comforting. Not only is the food beyond delicious, but you befriend your roommates very quickly and easily, and look forward to volunteer tasks as it leaves you feeling proud and hopeful for what comes next. The travel experience portion of my trip was otherworldly, from visiting UNESCO world heritage sites in Galle to surfing in Mirissa to driving past gemstone mines and tea plantations to the cool mountains regions of Ella and riding the famous Ella train, to dinners, karaoke nights, sunrises and sunsets with the best “travel family”. Not only did I feel safe the entire time with Karu and our drivers, who bent over backwards to make sure we arrived to our accommodations and experiences on time while having the most fun of our lives, but every moment is worth remembering, even the small ones. Especially the small ones. I left with photos, videos, bug bites, tan lines and friendships that will truly be carried with me into future travels, hopefully with other TMR projects. I cannot recommend this experience enough, especially as someone who traveled by themselves at 19 years old from Oregon in the U.S., 27 hours across the world, facing the unknown, to be met with a place I miss already, and people that have touched my soul. Thank you Sri Lanka for everything you shared with me, from your temples and wildlife, to your food and families. I hope to return someday, and whoever is reading this, if you are on the fence of whether to go or not…if I have 1 singular piece of advice…book the flight. Take that leap of faith. TMR Sri Lanka will not disappoint.
Had an incredibly amazing and insightful four weeks with TMR in Sri Lanka. Ayomi, Thaksi and the whole family living on the accommodation were incredibly friendly and helpful with anything we needed as they always went above and beyond to help. The food at the accommodation became slightly repetitive after 3/4 weeks but this was no problem as there is no shortage of restaurants close by which had a variety of meals similar to those back home. Accommodation was also better than expected with comfy beds, great facilities and plenty of space for personal belongings - suitcases open underneath bed for extra space. Rooms were also cleaned on a weekly basis and spare sheets or towels were available more frequently if needed. I took part on the medical elective programme for university and had the opportunity to observe a multitude of different health procedures and gain insight on how medical practitioners treat their patients at this side of the world. Would definitely come again and would highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with TMR in Sri Lanka! Ayomi, Thacksi, and the rest of the family and locals working are so helpful. Anytime I needed anything it was resolved In minutes! I thought the beds were really comfortable and our rooms were properly cleaned weekly which was amazing! I would definitely come back here again with TMR!
I had an amazing 4 weeks in India. The team out there were fantastic, they were able to help with any problems and they got us involved in the local culture in so many different ways. The placements were organised very well and we had activities put on almost every night. I also did the golden triangle weekend which was fantastic! Jay led the whole weekend and we were able to just relax and enjoy the sites. Thank you so much to the local team, they really made my visit what it was!
Volunteering with TMR was an enjoyable experience, and I commend their ethical sea turtle conservation practice. There is opportunity to get involved with other volunteering (e g childcare, arts/crafts, stray dog feeding) if you seek it out yourself too. I didn't expect there to be such a large gap during the day for sea turtle conservation (usually 6-7.30am shift, then 8-12pm shift), so it would have been better if we could get involved with other free activities/ conservation projects during the day. The accommodation was generally good, comfortable and clean, however there are small recurring issues such as aircon breaking/not working - though the on site team are good at fixing issues like this quickly. The weekend trip (Cultural Triangle) did let us down a bit, as it didn't follow the itinerary provided on the website which meant we missed seeing/exploring Kandy. We were instead taken to woodwork shop and tea factory which wasn't on the itinerary - time which could have been used to spend in Kandy. Climbing the Sigirya rock was an amazing experience, as was the safari, these were probably the best parts of the trip, however at the end our guide was asking for a tip and we were not warned that this would be needed, since the trip as a whole is pre-paid for. If tipping was mentioned to us before going or in the handbook, it would have been more reasonable. Staff at TMR are friendly and helpful, they made it a pleasant stay. Upon arrival at the airport there is someone from the TMR team to greet you, although the sign does not show your name as the handbook says, it just says "The Mighty Roar" - as a solo traveller this can be a bit disconcerting. Additionally upon arrival you are not given a tour of the accommodation, which meant many of us only found out about a games & pool room on the last few days of volunteering. Communications to volunteers is through a group WhatsApp chat which tells you what the programme of the next day will be, and there is also a weekly timetable posted each Sunday which is useful to refer to. Thanks to everyone on the ground at TMR in Sri Lanka for making this a good experience.
Volunteering within the Maasai community on this childcare project was an absolute joy and a truly humbling experience for our family of four. It is an opportunity we will cherish and never forget. The booking process through Mighty Roar was relatively straightforward, and they efficiently answered any questions I had. However, I felt that during the scheduled Zoom call I arranged, Chris lacked warmth in his responses to my questions, giving the impression that I was wasting his time and that my questions were silly. This almost put me off booking but I am so glad I didn't and decided to go ahead. In contrast, the team in Moshi was outstanding in every way. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They patiently answered all our questions, no matter how trivial they seemed, and accommodated our fussy kids with tailored meals. The team was also incredibly helpful in providing transportation whenever we needed it. Despite this minor drawback, our volunteer experience was nothing short of incredible. The Moshi team's dedication and support made our stay comfortable and memorable. We highly recommend this childcare project to anyone looking for a meaningful and enriching volunteer opportunity.
I had the most amazing experience in Tanzania with The Mighty Roar, I genuinely can’t put into words how lovely, caring and helpful everyone was. They organised the best trips for us, looked after us so well and nothing was ever too much trouble. They really made sure we were safe at all times and we became very close to all of the staff. I will definitely return to Tanzania with The Mighty Roar! Thank you to everyone for making it the best trip ever 🤍
So much fun! Ayomi, Thaksi and the rest of the mighty roar family are so friendly and helpful. The accommodation is nice and kept clean, the food is good and Ayomi will accommodate any requests. They will organise stuff for you to do like surfing, kayaking, or cooking with the family etc. 10/10 would recommend.
I travelled with The Mighty Roar to Ghana were I stayed in the village Busua to volunteer on the medical programme for my university nursing elective . The staff always helped us if we had any concerns, the food was lovely and the experience overall was amazing! I got to learn so much at the local hospital and clinic, it was so beneficial to my nursing degree!
The mighty roar in Sri Lanka has been an amazing experience, Ayomi, Thaksi and everyone else working at the mighty roar have been so accommodating and tried to work around everyone’s preferences. They’ve been amazing and I’m so grateful to have them while being here. Thank you so much for this experience and I was highly recommend to anyone wanting to come to Sri Lanka
Just finished 4 weeks of my medical placement in Sri Lanka. Stayed with Ayomi and her family/team. They were all so welcoming and supportive! They cooked amazing Sri Lankan food and would also offer other options if we didn’t like it. The hospital/herbal clinic staff were also very friendly and supportive. Got to see lots of medical treatments. Thank you very much! Will miss it!
Had the most amazing time volunteering at childcare with mighty roar. All the staff were amazing and made me feel so welcome, everything was organised really well and I loved every second. I will definitely be back one day. Thank you all so much 💙💛💚
I had an unforgettable 2 weeks completing the volunteer and travel experience in Sri Lanka with The Mighty Roar. This was my first time travelling solo, so naturally, I was a bit anxious. TMR team were on hand at any point if I had any questions and I was invited into a group WhatsApp and Facebook group beforehand so I could connect with other people who were also embarking on this opportunity - this really helped put me at ease! On the first day, I instantly felt welcomed by Ayomi and her family. It was so special and humbling. My volunteering experience at the local Kindergarten was really fun and it was a chance to be creative! It was lovely having free time in the afternoon to explore and relax and connect with others in the group. There were occasions where there would be a number of us wanting to head out to Hikkadawua and Taxi was happy to sort a bus out for us which was great. This does cost money which wasn’t initially communicated so trying to sort this out between 15 people was a bit chaotic! I really enjoyed the home cooking and the opportunity to get involved in other activities. A huge heartfelt thank you to Ayomi and Charith ⭐️ The second week travelling was jam packed! I was amazed at how much we packed in. There were a couple of days where we were on the bus for a long time and the itinerary (from the website) was ‘loosely’ followed. I appreciate things don’t always fall to plan but more advanced notice of what to expect for the next day would have been appreciated so we could feel a bit better prepared! For example, Ayomi sent an itinerary of the next day on WhatsApp during our time volunteering. As a suggestion, this would have also been useful for the travelling days! Overall, I had an incredible experience and no 2 days were the same! Playing games with kindergarten children, swimming in a natural pool, temple visits, whale watching, stick fishing, safari tour, having close encounters with monkeys(!), watching a local dance & firebreathing show… the list goes on! Thank you so much TMR for making this unique experience unforgettable ✨
Had an amazing four weeks with the Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka! Ayomi, Charith, their family and the whole staff group were so welcoming and friendly and helped with any problems we had. I took part in the medical experience as an elective placement at university and it was so interesting to see how another country and culture take care of their sick. Accommodation is lovely and set right on the beach! 10/10 would reccomend!
Best 4 weeks, so much to do and see including activities, the travel experience was so good and we did so much, only thing i would say which is obvious but if you’re picky with food make sure you budget around £7-£10 a day for food if you don’t want to eat curry a lot, although the food at the accommodation is delicious there are lots of food places to try out in the week as well as the weekend, and if you’re worried about what to eat then make sure you bring enough money to have some food out!
It was my first time travelling abroad alone and the mighty roar were so accommodating and made me feel at ease. I enjoyed the whole time I was there and would definitely recommend!!

May 07,2024I am just back from 3 weeks in Na’ankuse, Namibia, it was fantastic. I went for the experience of the animals but the people I met there, both volunteers and staff, actually made the trip. TMR were excellent right the way through, the whole process was stress free for me and this was particularly important as I am older and had never before travelled alone. They were in regular contact both before and during my volunteering to make sure all was ok. The volunteering itself was something I could never have imagined, the close working with the rescued wildlife and the many like minds I got to meet, both old and young was incredible, truly a life changing experience for me. Thank you TMR, I will be recommending you to friends and will definitely be looking to do another project with you next year.
