I had the best 2 weeks in Sri Lanka volunteering with street dogs. Everyone at TMR was so lovely and very helpful/welcoming. It was an amazing experience!
Everyone is so lovely, I really loved the food, the accommodation is pleasant, with air conditioning and mosquito nets. I met so many new people and made friends. The programme offers lots of activities and opportunities to do while your there, such as joining other volunteering programmes, celebrating Poya day, learning about Buddhism and the culture, providing cooking classes, and so much more! It made me enjoy my time and feel like I have made the most of my time in Sri Lanka. It’s also easy to get around by bus and Tuktuk from the location. As for the volunteer work, I thought it was well organised and ethical. However I felt as though there could have been more work or additional tasks to do in order to make a bigger difference for the turtle conservation. Also, I felt that there could be more explanation about our tasks and our conservation efforts. It may also be better to go outside of monsoon season to avoid the rain, and we had less turtles coming on the beach due to the waves as a result of monsoon season, but there is still work to do and it doesn’t rain all the time- my experience was still good. Overall, I had a good experience on this programme and made many memories, I would highly recommend something like this to solo travellers as it’s safe, organised, and there are many people to meet.
Did a month long trip to Kenya through the Mighty Roar for a nursing elective and had the most wonderful time! Wished they had made it more clear that the team weren't actually in the country and that we were staying with a host family, however still had a magical experience especially on the weekend Safari trip!!!
Nicky and Justin were absolutely amazing and helped to the best they could with anything needed! Couldn’t recommend more-such good value for money!
Had an amazing time at amakhala, Justin and Nicky were both brilliant! Highly recommend.
Fantastic street dog volunteering trip to Sri Lanka. Highly recommended. Wonderful people making a fantastic difference in a sustainable way in a very challenging environment. We were cared for so well by Ayomi, Thaksi and the whole team who couldn’t have looked after us better. Harendra our super friendly and helpful Tuk Tuk man was also fantastic, helping us navigate the local hospital when my daughter and I needed rabies booster vaccines. Cant give enough praise - they need more street dog volunteers so sign up and do something really valuable and trust me you’ll have an adventure of a lifetime!
Spent 2 weeks volunteering on the Turtle conservation program in Sri Lanka and had the most amazing time. The whole family made the experience unforgettable but especially thanks to Karu during the Cultural triangle weekend trip. The accommodation is in a great location to visit nearby towns during the day and travel on throughout the rest of Sri Lanka afterwards. The activities organised were a highlight including the waterfall and kayaking! Met some amazing friends and saw so many turtles. All in all an incredible trip.
Had the most amazing 2 weeks volunteering with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka. I participated in the Turtle conservation program, this program was well organised with tasks to do daily. Ayomi and her family manage the accommodation and are extremely friendly and welcoming. They are more than happy to resolve any issues you may encounter. They also organise great activities allowing you to explore parts of Sri Lanka. The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable to stay in. I would recommend everyone to participate in any of the programs as i had the most amazing experience!!!
I had an amazing two weeks volunteering in the Zimbabwe Victoria Falls Big Five Conservation project. I met amazing people and would definitely recommend this for others!
The Tenerife project is a really enjoyable one to be a part of. A week is very short so I’d recommend going for longer if you can although I still had a great experience. Great if you want to experience true sustainability and care for lots of animals.
Recently visited Sri Lanka through TMR. The team were exceptionally helpful, both online and in person at the accommodation we stayed at. Well mannered and a positive presence to be around. Trips were accessible and good value for money. Some beautiful sites and experiences to be taken advantage of. Some placement activities required improvements in organisation and communication, especially for new members, but overall was a good effort to demonstrate Sri Lanka’s healthcare system. The accommodation site was well placed. Cleanliness could be improved; although visiting students should be accountable for their own hygiene & items, lots of dirty clothes and toiletries would be left by previous tenants. Maybe clear expectations can be presented to new volunteers and any unclaimed items can be removed weekly to avoid a build up of mess. I wish Ayomi and the team well. Thank you to the TMR community.
I had an unforgetable trip in Tanzania arranged by The Mighty Roar. I love the staff in Comfy Stay Hotel and the drivers. It was really good that they provide free transportation during daytime. The weekend trips were fantastic. Hope we could go to Serengeti next time.
I completed the street dog rescue programme for 2 weeks and it was absolutely amazing. We had 5 street dog volunteers, who worked as a team to make a real impact to the lives of the street dogs (and cats!) in Akurala. The mighty roar staff are so kind and friendly, especially Thaksi who helped the street dogs with us. They have a great team that can help with anything you need throughout your time there, including TukTuks, day/afternoon trips and catering. We definitely need more street dog volunteers and I couldn’t recommend TMR more! The programme is super rewarding work and I think anyone considering helping street dogs should come to TMR in Sri Lanka.
Excellente week with kind people. The locals at the camp are very nice and do everything so that we can spend the best week. I very recommend this experience.
Spent two weeks on the medical placement as a student midwife in Sri Lanka with the Mighty Roar programme. We were welcomed with open arms by Ayomi and her team from the start. Activities were organised throughout the time there which were not mandatory but useful to get a feel for the local area. Room was basic but had good a/c and beds were comfortable and also had mosquito nets. Food was good although we did eat out at the local restaurants most of the nights as we wanted to explore the nearby town of Hikkaduwa. Curfew of 10pm which is understandable but annoying if you fancy a bit of a night out. All in all the trip was fantastic and I would definatley recommend.
Have been staying at the mighty roar for the last 2 weeks now and have been loving my time. I came to do the street dog and turtle program, I love feeling like I'm making a difference and I rly do feel that way. Other programs you feel a bit like dead weight but here I can see the impact everyday. Please come and volunteer with the doggies and turtles, they rly need it❤️
What an experience! I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in the turtle conservation project here in Sri Lanka. It was amazing...Ayomi, Charith, Thaksi and team are the kindest people you will ever meet. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I instantly felt welcome from the moment I arrived. The experiences I gained here will stay will me forever, and I have made relationships and friends for life. I have learned so much through the local knowledge and passion of the team - the evening turtle beach patrols were made extra special with the help of the staff members that escorted us! I would highly recommend The Mighty Roar if you are considering volunteering, I was travelling by myself and felt safe the whole time, in the knowledge that they were checking up on me and ensuring my safety. Overall, I will probably be returning soon!
I stayed for a week in Sri Lanka doing the turtle conservation along with the hills and country safari weekend trip. Ayomi and her family were incredible, they really went above and beyond to ensure we were all comfortable and having amazing experiences. In the week extra activities were organised every day such as kayaking, volleyball, waterfall walk, cooking class, trip to turtle beach, turtle sanctuary and much more! The weekend trip was brilliant and Mammu our guide was incredible and took into account everything we asked him to do. I met the most amazing people and wish I would have stayed longer!!!!
Just returned from 2 weeks medical elective in Sri Lanka. The TMR team were helpful both in the UK before I left and the on-site team where always around, nothing was too much trouble. Did a couple of trips and was very impressed with the value for money.

Jun 21,2024Amazing experience in Sri Lanka with TMR ! I spent a week combining teaching and kindergarten and it was amazing. We are also very well supervised by the association and we can also enjoy the country during the weekend.
