I had a great time at TMR Bali doing the teaching programme. TMR communications were great and provided absolutely everything we needed before the trip and we’re always there when we needed them. The local team at the camp were also great and would tend to any matters, super helpful. Accommodation was very basic but you didn’t really need much more. The food was great!! I loved the food so much, always very varied and never really the same thing. They also have a little shop by the kitchen which you could buy drinks and snacks from which was good. The teaching was great too! The children were honestly the sweetest people I have ever met, some of their English was already amazing. The teachers there too were also so nice and welcoming. The leaving ceremony was amazing and very emotional!! I will miss the children so much. However, teaching was only from 3pm-5pm so you have the whole day, but Tianyar is located in a very rural village with not much around at all so I felt like I was wasting the day a bit and didn’t have much to do at all. Also the dogs started to become a bit of an issue at dinner time as they would always try to come and eat our food and many of them had tics which would get dropped onto the table which wasn’t very nice. But overall I had a great experience.
Absolutely fantastic staff, get involved with any project with these guys and I know you’ll have a great time. We went on our medical elective and absolutely loved it.
My 6 weeks in Tanzania was truly an experience that I will never forget. From going on safari to visiting Zanzibar island to making new friends, it was the trip of a lifetime. I also want to say a thank you to all the staff including German, Ali, Felix, Sam and Daniel for being so helpful and welcoming and for making the stay even better. I definitely hope to come back and visit in the future. Asante sana
TMR Tanzania was an incredible experience. We came as a 5 on our elective and had such a memorable time. The weekend safari trip was a massive bonus and Timothy was a fantastic guide who helped organise us transport for our travels after. The team at comfy stay are all extremely kind, German and Ali were very accommodating and Felix could whip up some tasty dins. They can provide free lifts to different locations in Moshi. The hospital had friendly staff and was fortunate to see how healthcare can differ. Thanks so much.
Could not recommend this experience enough! 2 weeks at WFFT and wanted to stay longer.
I stayed for 4 weeks at TMR. During this time I spent 2 weeks doing the medical programme and 2 weeks the teaching programme. Overall, it was a great experience. I would say TMR is currently a work in progress, with changes being made all the time to improve the experience for volunteers. The hosts Ayomi and Charith were really friendly and approachable. The organised activities were great (some with an extra cost). With regards to the volunteering schemes, they are still a work in progress. I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching programme and found it fun and rewarding. I think there needs to be better organisation and maybe one person in charge of each volunteering scheme. The accommodation was basic, however it was very cheap. You stay in dorms based on gender. Thankfully there is air con in each! My dorm was pretty clean and probably one of the nicer ones, maybe could have done with a bit more space. There were a few problems with water supply, however these were sorted during our stay. We were provided with 3 meals a day during the week days. Overall the food was good, but basic. I think they need to provide more fruit and vegetables. Fruit was only provided at breakfast and some meals would not have any vegetables. The breakfast was also the same each day. Whilst here I made use of the weekends to go off and explore Sri Lanka with my friends. I definitely recommend doing this, as nothing goes on at TMR over the weekends. We only went on the Cultural Triangle trip, which was well organised and a great opportunity to see the main sites Sri Lanka has to offer. The safari was my highlight. Overall a great time spent at TMR, thank you.I think with a few improvements the experience could be made a lot better for others visiting in the future!
I spent a week volunteering in Sri Lanka. It was such a great experience. Everyone was lovely and very welcoming. It was amazing spending a week helping the Turtles. I would love to go back for longer next time.
I did the mighty roar project in Sri Lanka for my medical elective and had a great time. The location of the accommodation just across from the beach was fantastic and staff very welcoming and accommodating. The medical programme was well organised and I learnt a lot whilst there. However, there were a few things that we felt weren’t quite as they had been advertised. For example, how basic the rooms were and the lack of storage space in an eight person room. The food was also disappointing for a country with such great cuisine. It was very monotonous and lacked vegetables beyond cucumber. We spent more money than we had expected as we ate out more to try and get some variety in our diets. This wouldn’t put me off doing it again, but should be made more obvious for prospective volunteers.
The location and staff made this a five star experience. Everyone was friendly and it had a very nice family feel. The accommodation was located opposite a beautiful beach. I was doing the medical program. It was run with organisation and we were taken to and from the hospital each day. Unfortunately the food provided at the accommodation was very disappointing. There was very little variety. One meal consisted only of Dahl, rice and plain pasta. There was minimal fruit and veg. It put me off wanting to try more Sri Lankan food. I visited several Sri Lankan restaurants and the food was simple yet absolutely delicious. If perhaps a little more thought went into the meals at TMR to add more variation the experience would have been better!!
I went and stayed with Charith and his family volunteering with the mighty roar for 6 weeks. It was an absolutely incredible experience. Everyone was so welcoming and made me feel very much at home. I volunteered in the hospitals for 6 weeks and it was a very eye opening experience that I will take with me for life. The accommodation is located right next to the beach which is beautiful! On weekends we managed to travel pretty much the whole of Sri Lanka and the weekend trips to the Maldives was a dream come true. It was a fantastic:)
Really amazing experience in Sri Lanka. Everyone was so lovely, friendly and helpful Charith and Thaksi and all the family are wonderful Thank you so much for having us I definitely recommend! Xx
Myself and my partner spent two weeks volunteering on the childcare programme in Tanzania and it was the most amazing life changing experience for us both! The staff at the comfy stay hostel are a credit to the programme and really looked after all volunteers. Also, all of the staff involved with the programme made a lasting impact on us and made our experience incredible, with our safety as a priority! Being at the childcare setting and forming relationships with the children, teachers and Maasai people was the highlight for us and we’d love to return to assist with any new projects in the future! Also, the safari exceeded our expectations and was made even better by our amazing guide William! We would recommend the whole experience to everyone and we know we will definitely be back as soon as we can! Asante Sana 🫶🏼✨
Nakupenda Tanzania and the team at comfy stay❤️ I spent 4 weeks with the team and from the moment I got there, the team were so welcoming and kind. Felix cooked the best food and always made sure everyone had ate. German made sure everyone had rooms and that we were all ok! Alice, Emmanuel, Ali, Sam, Naomi, Nick and the rest of the team were all amazing! They couldn’t do enough for us and I had a life changing trip. I didn’t expect to miss Moshi and the team as much as I do. I can’t wait to go back and see everyone. Asante Sana❤️
Over my time at the comfy stay hostel in moshi, i never felt unsafe or uneasy, it was such a lovely, warming experience! The staff are so friendly and always smiling (especially Jeman, Ali and Felix) and always check up on you to make sure you have eaten, are feeling well, etc! The tanzania volunteer programme was so well run and such an eye opener, Asante Sana tanzania, i will be back!
During my stay in Sri Lanka I went with the mighty roar and they were amazing and so caring! The staff would always check up on you and engage you in conversations making you feel like family! I’m so glad i decided to go with them as they organised our stay, food and trips… which took a massive lift of my shoulders as this was my first time travelling! Before I went to Sri Lanka I was struggling a lot with my mental health and when I came to the mighty roar with my friend, it made me find myself again and got the happiness back out of me! I made so many friends out there and became really close with some and will see them back in the Uk! I did the childcare volunteering and was in the kindergarten and I loved it! The kids were so cute and it was so interesting to see how different it is to the Uk! I stayed with the mighty roar for 4 weeks and did the travel and volunteer experience and 1 weekend trip which was the Maldives (highly recommend)! In that month I feel like I accomplished so much and did so many fun activity’s and site seeing! The accommodation is right next to the beach and it is sooo beautiful, me and my friend would swim and snorkel in the sea everyday! :) Thank you to the staff there and thank you mighty roar! I’m missing it loads will deffo come back again!
I had an amazing time volunteering in Bangkok with the mighty roar! The students were so motivated and enthusiastic that it was a joy to help and support them. It was amazing to see how quickly they progressed. The school where I worked was well-organized and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They welcomed me warmly from the beginning and helped me navigate the new environment. The students were also very respectful and disciplined, making working with them very enjoyable. I not only taught the students, but also learned a lot from them. Overall, I can say that my time as a volunteer English teacher in Bangkok was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I derived so much joy and fulfillment from this experience and am grateful for the opportunity to make a small contribution to the education and development of these wonderful students. I can only recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to do volunteer work, especially in the education sector. It is an experience that changes lives and touches hearts
Fab experience. Will be going volunteering again with the mighty roar in a few months.
I’ve used The Mighty Roar 3 times now and I’ve never had any issues. I’ve never come across a problem during my trips so have not really needed their advice or help with anything but I know they would be more than happy to help if an issue did occur. They also give a detailed handbook out to volunteers before going away which is really useful and makes packing so much easier and gives you an idea of what to expect whilst volunteering. I do think the handbook for the Zimbabwe Elephant and Rhino sanctuary needs updating on a few of the sections but that’s it. The Mighty roar are a great company and I would recommend them to anyone looking to go volunteering!
Winyoo’s programme in Bangkok was an amazing experience and I’m so happy I went! The teaching we did felt impactful and it was an eye opening thing to do, the programme could be slightly more organised in aspects but it’s a difficult thing to do so and Winyoo does a great job organising so much on his own. Also, the extra tours and day trips you got made it good value for your money as well.

Apr 02,2024My 3 week trip to Tanzania doing the medical programme as a qualified midwife was everything I expected and SO much more. The whole this was so well organised, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation and facilities at Comfy Stay Hostel provided by Child Hope gives you a true feeling that you are experiencing the true Tanzania and not a tourist experience which is what I really wanted. As a lone female traveller in my 50’s I felt totally safe and although most of the volunteers are younger than my own children I didn’t feel out of place. I would highly recommend all the trips you can fit in they are all amazing (safari, maturini waterfalls and coffee plantation, hot springs, Mt Kilimanjaro base camp, painting class). If you only do this once in your lifetime you won’t regret a minute!
