Alexandria’s mission is to make libraries as important today as they were 40 years ago. Libraries are not “dead” and will never be. Our goal is to give librarians the tools to share and promote their resources. The first version of Alexandria was released in 1990. Alexandria itself has continued to be updated and enhanced for over 20 years, which is pretty amazing in the technology and software industry.
What else can I say? We've been using Alexandria for years and years, and I don't know if you could convince me to use anyone else. I truly feel that they want to do right by their customers.
The software is great. I just need to become more aware of all the options available.
As a new librarian using Alexandria for the first time, I really appreciate the customer service. They answer their calls promptly and have always been able to help me with my various questions. They never make me feel like I should know or are wasting their time. I like all parts of the system and my teachers appreciate what I can do for them by accessing the various functions.
I have liked this since we installed it. The item that sold me was that I could install books in any barcode order. We had Athena before and you had to do the barcodes in numerical order.
Update has changed all of my previous saved reports so now I have to go back and redo everything.
The tech support is always extremely helpful and able to correct the problem
We have trouble each year around the time our subscription is up for renewal. The systems shuts down a couple of times a week for a month, but once we renew it works again just fine.
Alexandria is a pretty good database. It has helped us a lot to automate our library processes and it contains several options to manage your library according to your needs and preferences. The technical service team is very good. They are polite and timely to solve problems. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is because in a couple of occasions I received confounding information from the technical team and the customer service team. At the end everything worked out well but we could have saved some phone calls and confusion if both teams would have had the same information.
My recommendation would be to look around and see what else is available that might meet your needs before making the decision to go with Alexandria. In this day and age, no one should have to host their own servers or import your own students. In my opinion it's a huge waste of man hours and it's limiting the resources you're offering your students. Look around and make an informed decision before you purchase. Reports are cumbersome to compile and often times don't give you what you really want. Often times when you call customer service you get handed off time and time again and must repeat your 'story' over and over again until someone finally helps you figure it out.
We have used Alexandria for over a decade. It works, and it works well. Easy to update, add students, upload pictures. From my Technology Directors seat, "Alex" is a winner.
This new system is definitely a step in the right direction. However, like all other new software bugs are causing some frustration at what seems to be the worst possible times. Overall, love the new look!
Alex does the job, but there are lot of things it could do better.
I've had a great experience with customer service. This LMS is new to me so I call often :) I'm not overly satisfied with the format of the LMS itself (hence the 4, not 5 stars). I previously used OPALS and perhaps it is my learning curve making that decision. After another year of Alexandria, I may just learn to like it more.
I began using Alexandria way back when the company was small and version 3 was something they were planning for the future. I stayed with version 5 for a long time because our equipment was never state-of-the-art and mine is the only school in the district using a Macintosh library program. I liked version 5 very much and was very comfortable using it found it very reliable. With version 5 I almost never needed to call tech support for help. Changing to version 6 has been a mixed experience. I can do the basic tasks, but need to check with tech support to do things that seemed easy in version 5. The new version has many very desirable features and I hope to become a proficient user before too long. In general, I really like the Alexandria program and have found the tech support people to be very patient and helpful.
Alexandria has helped our school librarians with their books.
Alexandria does a good job at keeping the library check out process smooth. It also has good sound notifications when there is an alert. Going back and forth between check out mode and book drop can be frustrating as it does not immediately go back to check out when a patron barcode is scanned. Reports take three clicks to download and four to print. Our upgrade this year has been frustrating because these functions used to be faster and more easily accessed.
I use this program daily. I have had no major issues with the program. The very few issues that may come up have been quickly resolved. It is very easy to use and can be navigated fairly easily.
Alexandria is easy to use, but could be more user friendly by being able to access multiple items from one home screen versus using drop downs to go to different areas.
Alexandria is the best. If you ever have any trouble you just call them and they walk you through step by step.
