Avis Car Hire offers a premium car rental experience in Ireland, with locations in Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Galway, Knock, Belfast, and Derry.
I don't often write reviews but my experience with Avis was not great. I asked for CDW cover but unbeknown to me at the time they added personal accident, roadside assist and winscreen insurance. All of the other companies I have rented off include roadside and windscreen an it is not added. They then give you a copy to view on an ipad to sign. No hard copy. No way on this earth can the person view all the details on this screen. Bill for two days rental of A Seat MII over 128 Euro. What a ripoff! Will never use Avis again.
Rented an AVIS car in Dublin Airport in Jan 2019 and again Mar 2019 Both experiences with the staff were exceptional, I had forgot to book a car when in the US and the Manager on duty when I arrived at the Dublin Airport was a Mr. Gerry Glynn. Mr. Glynn arranged the car I needed with an upgrade. Mr. Glynn's staff were also extremely professional and respectful in each of my transactions. Cannot say enough about the Irish welcome I received from this Avis team, especially given the waves of tired and irritable customers like me that appear at their Avis desk in the early hours of the am from the US. Respectfully,
Horrid rental from Avis/Budget at Dublin airport - Vehicle was dirty, Seats were stained, smelt inside, every panel was dented or scratched, carpet was peeling up in drivers foot well and tyre pressure hugely varied across wheels. Plus It had covered 118,000km!!
Still waiting for refund of my deposit after 5 weeks. the car we hired was certainly returned in perfect condition and with a full tank of fuel, yet our deposit not returned. this was a rental from Dublin Airport which I had booked many weeks in advance, they charged me more than I was quoted for in that booking as well. Will use someone else next time. Well Jen this refund has never happened, the deposit was a tank of fuel which was paid up front, and never got refunded, it seemed dodgy at the time especially when I hire through Avis Australia for business all the time and had never been asked to pay for a tank of fuel upfront which they said would be refunded on return of the car with a full tank.. which it was.
The 1 star is for the nice staff. Avis is woeful , didn't have the car i ordered (they actually don't have the car i order at all) so i got a smart car, uncomfortable , slow and was useless going up hills. Of course the sat nav has been disabled over their fleet of cars, so if you need one be prepared it will cost more than the car rental, what a con. If you are going for more than a couple of days, just buy a sat nav it will be cheeper. Just a horrible experience, don't use.......
This company is shocking . I pre booked and pre paid for a car at Belfast City Airport several weeks ago. I was visiting Northern Ireland for a day to visit some elderly relatives. When I arrived at the Airport I was informed there was no car available. This was also the case for about 20 other people in the queue behind me . I was told one may become available later in the day but I explained that I was only there for 7 hours so as I had booked my car at 10 am this was not acceptable. I waited for about 45 minutes and I was told I was fifth in the queue . By 1045 am the first person in the queue for pre booked cars still had no car . I ended up going to Sixt who had a car and dealt swiftly with my hire so I could be on the Road . I made it to my Uncles 2 hours later than expected all, dues to Avis ! I’ve complained and been offered a refund and an upgrade on my next car hire which is a farce as they don’t have cars . This wasn’t a one off as I spoke to other staff at the Airport and it’s a regular occurrence. It’s not acceptable, I haven’t even been offered an explanation. Don’t use Avis ! They run in tandem with Budget car and can’t deliver what you pay for ! I
If I'll ever will have a choice - I would rent with AVIS. I was renting a car in the Dublin AVIS (Kilmainham), say 5-10 times during past few years. All the time - professional staff, nice clean cars. No issues. Highly recommended.

Jul 20,2019Booked a car in Bordeaux for a week . Told fully comprehensive insurance with extra driver . On arrival told I had to pay the first £1500 of any claim . Ended up I was charged an extra 187 euros ! Was concerned I would be charged extra for any damage or not filling up petrol . On arrival was given a different car than I had booked and told it was the same . When you complain at the desk they all suddenly speak only French . Car went well but really felt ripped off .
