Jun 07,2024Would have preferred Better.com to be more supportive/ helpful during the final phases on my loan process. Instead, I experienced a non-committal/ indifferent approach.

Jun 06,2024I used better as my mortgage company for a house purchase that just completed, barely... Better was absolutely fantastic up until I locked my rate with them. The second I locked my rate, I could never get anyone on the phone. It went from full availability to work through things to maybe one time slot open a week and a half out Even when booking those times slots I would get the call from better 20 minutes late! Better also could not seem to understand due dates, which for a mortgage company is a massive deal. Any time something was due, whether it be a mortgage commitment or even the closing itself, Better showed no sense of urgency. The only way I got any documents from them was cold calling thier public line over and over until someone would finally look into what was going on. To top it all off, Better almost completely screwed up my closing costing me the house. Less than 24 hours before hitting the closing table, I called better to make sure everything was still set. Of course, when I get them, my cash to close had gone up 20% from the night before. Less than 24 hours before closing...I spent the better part of that day on the phone and on hold with Better trying to get an answer on why the cash to close went up so steeply, and also why it happened less than 24 hours before closing.... After hours, literally hours, of pain staking calls, being passed from person to person, they finally had their mistake pointed out by my title company (who I would recommend to anyone! Carriage House Title). Had someone from my title company not taken the time to go through line by line with better, this would never have been caught. I cannot tell you to stay away enough. This review barely touched the issues I had with better. The experience was absolutely horrendous. The incompetence shown by this company is downright astounding. Learn from my mistake, just go through your local credit union. Better is certainly anything but what they claim to be. They were the worst financial experience I have ever had

Jun 02,2024Use anyone else. Worst experience ever. They will constantly jerk you around about what's needed. Demand you pay off zero interest loans, Low-ball the estimated cash need to close by thousands of dollars. They will give you completely unrealistic pre-approval levels. For example had a pre-approval for $340,000 loan but when the actual amount was $99,000 it required a bunch of hoops and manipulation to actually get approved. No way would we have ever been approved for $340,000 despite the pre-approval letter. Put 66% down and it was still a nightmare of not knowing what new hoop they were going to make you jump through at the last minute.

Jun 01,2024The whole process went very smoothly and closing costs were really reasonable and less than with traditional banks. Checking the dashboard every day to keep on top of assigned tasks made it easy to ensure all information needed was supplied and didn’t feel like one huge ask all at once.

Jun 01,2024Started off great. We were approved then a couple of weeks they called and said they made a mistake in calculation. It was a whole mess and stressful situation trying to get it resolved without losing the house we had a deal on. After that communication was non existent from loan originator. We had to pay for appraisal upfront to lock in rate. Not a big deal until I saw appraisal fee. Appraisal itself was standard cost but then they tack on some admin fee which was about the cost of the appraisal! I questioned it and stated I wanted a refund for admin charge because no one said anything about this fee. I was told they would look into it but never heard back about it. The closing person was better but I had to tell them multiple times about things that should have already been in our file. Not sure I would use them again after this experience.

May 31,2024It was great to work with Better mortgage and Jamie Ohlsen was our loan originator. I felt the process was very transparent and option to look at rates/points and select the best option that works for you using the website adds to the smooth process. I also liked the feature of being able to generate loan estimate in just 1 click on website and ability to do that each time for various rate-points combination allowed me to compare all options in terms of cash to close. Overall the rates and price point was very competitive in the market.

There were a lot of documents to upload, sign, and confirm. It very easy to download and upload documents. Bryan Unkle and his team were great, and I closed my loan in a little over a week. Highly recommend Better.com for your mortgage needs!

The dashboard keeps you organized and makes it easy to upload the required documents and information. Always a fast response to any questions or issues that arise. To top it off some of the best rates and no fees!

Jun 08,2024Smooth experience for our first home purchase. Their rates were significantly lower than competitors and their fees were in line with others. The team we had (Drew and Andre) were responsive and knowledgeable and helped us throughout the process. Working with their website was also a better experience than other lender websites, pretty streamlined experience. If you're not comfortable working with the tech and rather do it the old fashioned way, they might not be for you.
