It was already emotional enough trying to deal with moving out of state for employment reasons. When it became a reality that I would need to sell my home and relocate, I had heard nothing but great things about Better Mortgage from friends and colleagues and decided it would be the best option based on the reviews I had personally heard. I would like it known that my journey with Better Mortgage has been nothing but rocky and has done nothing but cause more grief and agony for myself during this chaotic time frame. The lack of response I received from my "coordinator" after my loan left the hands of my loan consultant was comical. When I addressed the issue it was received with excuses and the fact that my loan was transferred to her on Presidents Day. Yet other Better Mortgage employees had reached out to me on a Sunday... so would it be wrong to think someone would be there on Presidents Day? The final straw was leas than 24hrs before closing when my "coordinator" informed me that after reviewing my 401k statement, there were pages missing and it was imperative that I get the missing pages turned in ASAP. Had this been brought to my attention prior to packing up my entire life into boxes and loading them into a moving truck, I could se this as a reasonable request. The fact that it was asked of me so close to closing AND AFTER I WAS ALREADY ASSURED EVERYTHING WAS IN PLACE, is a complete deal breaker and is where my trust with Better Mortgage has been severed. Trying to close on one home, while your entire life is in boxes, loaded on trucks, trying to coordinate an out of state move and close on a new house all while trying to ensure that all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed has brought me to my breaking point. I would have expected better from a company that came so highly recommended. My "coordinator" assured me the issue was escalated to management, but when I asked to speak with them I was told it would be 24-48 hours for someone to make that call... when I closed in a little over 12 hours be that point. I was then told that there would be a $1,000 concession "approved by management" due to the error and it was applied almost immediately… but nobody from management could call me for 24-48 hours. My closing on this property and the nightmare with Better Mortgage could not have ended soon enough. I want to thank Better Mortgage for the amount of stress and unnecessary worry that they were able to kept me filled with these past few weeks.
Jamie Ohlsen & her team were great! Solid communication & they were even able to accommodate the buyer's request for an expedited close date! Would definitely recommend & welcome the opportunity to work with them again!
Better Mortgage messed up my 1st loan application. I was preapproved, but then they denied my loan on the last day of the financial contingency. I already had everything ready to go, utilities set up, furniture and appliances scheduled to ship. And I had to cancel all that. They should never had let me go that far and denied my loan at the end. It let down so many parties. I asked them how much I could qualify if I could not qualify for the original amount. They had me filled out a 2nd application. On the 2nd application, they verified that I should have qualified for the original loan amount. So I had to go through the process all over again. This time the seller didn't trust me because I canceled the contract on the last day of the financial contingency. I had to put down non-refundable deposit for the seller to sell me the house. Anyway, they did approve the same loan on my 2nd application. I was able to buy the house eventually. But due to the mistake they made on my first loan application, I now have a higher interest rate (because mortgage rates have gone up since then), and I spent so much time on canceling all the deliveries and getting refunds on them. If you want to use Better Mortgage, make sure they fully qualify you very early in the process.
Eric made my experience extremely seamless! Home purchasing wouldn’t have been as easily attainable without him. I recommend everyone to connect with Eric and better.
Two major pros: - Significant $avings compared to alternatives - Online process was *usually* well organized One significant con: - When there were relatively minor problems, the process for correcting them was obscure at best. For example, we decided to opt-out of owners' title insurance, but in spite of many reminders, that wasn't corrected until 4 pm on the day before closing. There were at least three other similar disconnects. It seems like in the name of efficiency, Better doesn't empower the point of contact to fix problems directly.
The whole experience, from beginning to end, was quick, efficient and effortless. I had been looking for refinance options for 6 months before working with Better. Each other company was charging exorbitant closing fees, and made the process of submitting documentation miserable. The last one had terrible communication that just felt like I was getting the run around and being taken advantage of. Then came Better. From the start, everything was transparent and easy. Took a little over one month to complete my refi from start to finish, and ended up saving a ton of money over the other companies. I would highly recommend anybody interested in a home loan or refi, start with Better and save yourself the time and energy.
Super Simple process Saves Thousands in Closing Costs $2K Bonus from AMEX didn’t Hurt! Michael Tadlock and Ravon were Very Professional Will use Better Again!! Steve Miles AZ
Derek and Chantel were amazing. From empathy to full understanding of the entire process, they were able to guide me throughout the journey. Thank you Better.
We financed through Better. Things started off well, but the day before closing they stated we would have an excess of credits. We decided to use that excess to buy down points and we also agreed to remove one of our insurance fees this would have covered it. On the day of closing the numbers changed and I had to bring more money to the closing table. It was very difficult to get a hold of anyone who was licensed to speak about rates. When we finally did get someone 2-3 hours before the actual signing there was an oversight on the numbers they provided us. We could not roll things back unless we waited another three business days. TLDR; In the end we had to buy down points, which we did not want to do. It costs us an optional insurance and bringing additional money to closing. To recoup just the cash portion brought in it would take 2 years. Very bad transaction.
Good rates, low fees. I really like the ability to play with terms/points on my own time rather than in a broker's office. The process is entirely online / remote - which I prefer, but isn't for everybody. No issues closing on time. There were a couple minor hiccups along the way that a more high-touch approach might have avoided, but I'll trade a little vigilance for the lower fees any day.
Smooth transaction from beginning.. my loan officer was always on top of communication
Overall working with Better was a great experience. Getting a pre-approval letter is real fast. Some things to consider when working with Better, make sure you have access to your whole financial situation. Things that can at can delay and ruining your experience if you work sales and make commission, if you receive RSU (restricted stock units) from an employer. One issue I had was I did not attached my checking account as an asset and there was not an easy way to fix that. In all it was a great experience and we were able to close on the date promised. I would use Better again.
What a great experience! Brian was available any time of the day, the response time was super fast, he explained all steps of the process. I would definitely use better.com in the future
The communication was great and the process of completing everything online was straightforward. I checked with several other companies and Better gave me the best rate and pricing.
Better mortgages are shocking of a company you go though all the application takes around 5 weeks then at the end thay stop responding and don't do anything to sort owt out so had to go else where everyone keep away so glad didn't give them any payments
Simple, quick and easy to go through the whole process, and as smooth of a closing you could hope for on a new home purchase. The whole team was responsive, attentive and on top of the ball every step of the way. Not to mention their interest rates were far superior than 5 other lenders I got loan estimates from. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or use Better Mortgage in the future.
Streamlined process and excellent fast responses by the folks involved. Simple clear cut instructions then crazy under writer demands. Good competitive pricing and value with fast closing. I am so happy - looking to buy BETR stock also.
This is the second time we have worked with Better.com for our mortgage. Both times they made the process easy. They responded quickly to any questions we had, which helped keep the process moving forward. We highly recommend Better.com
Booked an appointment via their Chat with Caitlin. I asked for an email to be sent to confirm appointment, which was told was unusual to do? Come the day of the appointment, surprise, surprise, no call. Went onto the chat, was told by Caitlin I should have set up an account to do a soft search check?! Why I wasn't told this before is beyond me. Was then told that someone would call. 1.5 hrs later - still no call. Wont be using or recommending if this is the best they can do!
