Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.
Incredibly straightforward application and confirmation process. Lots of independent shops seem to have signed-up to scheme so wasn't too hard to find the bike I wanted. Processing the voucher in the shop was very easy too. Basically a bit of a no-brainer if you want a new bike!
The whole process seemed a bit complicated in the beginning. But as things started to clarify and after reading the blogs and the information about the scheme it became clearer that this was the way forward. Covid 19 changed the way I viewed commuting and I wanted to get healthier and more efficient . And electric bike was the best option. After carefully considering my options, and my salary sacrifice, I chose my bike and voila. Everything was quick and easy. And few days after buying my bike with the certificate I got it posted to me.
It took a little longer than I hoped to get the certificate as Covid-19 has made bikes more popular but otherwise it has been a brilliant service so far.
For me this scheme couldn't have been better! It has allowed me to buy a bike of the quality that I would never have dreamed of! The process is so easy and I got my e-certificate through in three days and picked my bike up at the end of the week despite the huge demand for bikes at the moment. I couldn't get the one I originally wanted as they were all sold out so I got an even better one instead. The cycle store I used understood the process and so did my employers so it was a piece of cake and would do it again and recommend anyone else to do it ...................NOW!
Simple process from applying to getting the bike. Loads of choices of where to go. Had my bike 1 week later. Would definitely recommend. Now the hard bit .... cycling to work :)
very quick now, used to be slow but they have changed the process. took 3 days. very helpful on phone so call them if you are in a hurry. no need to specify shop anymore just choose an amount. my NHS trusts limit is now 10K! This is about the only tax free scheme available in the UK unless you are a millionaire in which case there are loads.
Really good scheme, pretty simple, straightforward and easy to use. Would definitely recommend.
Don’t Bother slow and do not communicate
I applied for the scheme and ended up cancelling, it was taking so long to get the certificate through my workplace that the bike I wanted sold out and won't be available until 2021. I think the process is rather ridiculous as it means you have to request a certain amount of money and then if you can't buy that bike, you still have to pay back that money even if you got a cheaper bike. It's meant to seem like a work perk, but really it just a faff..
Easy & Quick! Took less than 5 minutes to apply, and less than 2 days before it was approved and ready to use!
Really simple, intuitive process and easy tracking of the order through the website
I found using cyclescheme very easy and intuitive, all along the way my personal dashboard was updated so that I knew what was happening when. All the paperwork was sorted out with my workplace and the certificate issued promptly. The only issue I had was virtually no information from the bike provider but it eventually arrived and I am happy.
Setting this up with Edinburgh Bicycle Coop was easy and a big cost saving.
I’ve used the cycle to work scheme twice now. Once was for a hybrid bike to see how well I would get into cycling and now a proper road bike. It’s been a really affordable and easy way to get going. Would definitely recommend.
Very easy process from start to finish, I would (and have) recommend this whole heartedly.
It was really easy to get started and apply for the certificate. Sadly their claims of "Any Bike, Any Brand" are not true. This scheme only works for specific retailers, most of which are pricey. Most notably, the major bike retailers such as Halfords are not part of the scheme and will not accept the certificate. After trying and failing to purchase 6 different bikes I gave up and had the certificate cancelled.
Great scheme. Frm application to getting the bike in a week. Great savings.
No issues with service which was smooth - hardest bit Was getting a bike you want in stock across the UK
In general the scheme is very good. The only problem was the time it took to get the process moving. However I think this may have been my employer and not the scheme. Cycle scheme were also easy to speak to when contacted. This was very reassuring.

Jun 30,2020Simple application form, followed by a prompt reply from my employer meant I got my voucher within approximately a week. The shop applied the voucher and I got my bike .. I saved money too on the pre tax salary sacrifice ... overall win win .. Thank you 😊
