Tax is complicated; the cycle to work scheme is not. You choose a bike, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of its original value. It's like a year-round sale, with interest free credit available in over 2,000 retailers nationwide.

I REQUESTED A CYCLE TO WORK SCHEME VOUCHER. BUT THEN I DECIDED NOT TO USE IT. I DONT HAVE A BIKE BUT MONEY HAS BE DEDUCTED FROM MY WAGE THIS MONTH. THIS DOESNT SEEM RIGHT. I EXPECT THAT MONEY SHOULD ONLY BE TAKEN IF YOU ACTUALLY USE THE VOUCHER?!

Hello From making enquires about the cycle scheme at work to collecting my gorgeous ebike from the very excellent Hot Pursuits cycle shop In Totnes took less than 2 weeks. I have saved 25% and it has got me back on a bike after 20 years. The system is quick and simple and I was surprised that I did not have to pay anything up front. I also took advantage of the discounted cycle insurance available through the scheme. Very happy with the process, my purchase and my rekindled enjoyment of cycling - despite all the very steep hills where I live!

Once an amount is selected that is all you can spend. Bikes go out of stock and your stuck with the same amount. Been trying to cancel it for 3 weeks and it has came off my wage even though I still have no bike. Asked to increase the amount for another bike but was told I have to cancel and reapply which has caused nothing but problems.

If I have one criticism of the scheme, it is to limit the cost of a cycle to £2000 (with my employer, not sure of others), which for an ebike is at the lower end of choice with no option to add any of your own money to get into a price range of better quality and performance. I was reluctant to get a cycle being 50+, but an ebike has literally got me back on my bike with a smile on my face, keeping up with where I was many years ago when I commuted to work. I am relatively happy with my scheme purchase (Pinacle Lithium Ion ebike - £1700 from Evans); it saves me money on tax breaks, I wont notice the cost much from my monthly salary, and allows me to purchase a bike without needing to front up the money. Had it less than a month and is already changing my lifestyle for the better, in terms of less use of my vehicle, and avoids me using public transport (which carries a real risk to us during the present pandemic). Feeling fitter and happier already, even when working from home all day and just going out for an hour of exercise. I hope to use for work frequently and not rejoining the Manchester traffic jams and rush hour each day. I'd recommend the scheme, its a good thing and lifestyle choice.

EDIT: I eventually had to cancel the voucher after ordering a bike from a company that left me waiting 6 weeks with no contact and no bike. To cycle scheme's credit, they reset the voucher for me, effectively cancelling the order and preventing further shenanigans from the seller. But with no other available bike at any participating shop to be found in the right size, price range etc. I had no choice but to cancel it and buy a bike with money (which was easy to find and was delivered 2 days later!). ********************* A good idea in theory. However, my experience was that online shops won't reserve the bike for you after agreeing a quote. This is a bit of a problem, and happened to me. By the time I had the certificate the bike I wanted was gone. Some of the bigger retailers also appear to have only specific bikes available through the scheme on a specific website, and much less choice than they have on their regular website. This is particularly problematic at the minute as there seems to be a shortage of bikes due to the pandemic. Most of the online shops that accept cycle scheme vouchers had no bikes available at all that matched my size and price range. Cycle scheme's way round the reservation problem appears to be getting a "decide later" certificate. Where an amount is agreed first and then you find a retailer and bike to suit. But the problem with this is that even if you don't spend the full amount on the certificate, you still pay the full amount back via your instalments. So you end up trying to match a bike and accessories to the amount you have to spend, rather than getting the things that would ideally suit your situation. My experience of the scheme has been that the way it works is complicated and not very intuitive. Borrowing a specific amount, before you know the cost of a bike and accessories, seems a little crazy when it's unlikely you will spend the exact amount but will still need to pay it back, and you aren't allowed to pay any additional money towards the purchase so can't go over your limit. Getting a specific quote and then applying for that amount also seems crazy when the retailer won't reserve the bike and it's likely to be gone by the time the certificate arrives.

Not good value for money. Near the end of the term I was told that I would need to pay another £50 and would not own the bike for an additional 2 years, Was also told that if I didn't pay then I would have to return the bike at my expense or face legal action. It would have cost a lot less if I used the bike shops interest free credit. In my opinion this scheme is of no benefit whatsoever

Fantastic and flawless from the start of the process to the end. Only took 1 week from application to collecting my new bike. I would highly recommend this scheme if you are looking for an affordable way to get back exercising and out in the fresh air. Thank you cycle scheme!!

I have applied for the certificate at the beginning of the May 2020. My Employer have approved transaction within few days of the application. On my account is a message that my certificate has been issued on 22 May 2020, however, I do not have certificate and no Bike. Bike is waiting for me in the shop. Since then I have contacted via email and had a response that they will answer within 5 days. 5 days gone - no response. I have repeated the email - same answer - will respond within 5 days. Tried to contact via phone several times. Nobody picked up the phone. This is disaster - not service. I'm totally frustrated and thinking of that I should cancel this certificate and do not try do this again. Absolutely disgusting service. Current situation with COVID-19 is absolutely no excuse. 5 days to respond MUST be maintained.

After a rocky start with Cyclescheme leading to a 1 star review, I was eventually able to speak to Neil McGuigan who redeemed Cyclescheme for me. I managed to source 3 suppliers of the bike I wanted. One no longer had stock in the frame size I needed. The other was prepared to release a bike for the scheme but wanted £100 for delivery. Surge Bikes in Basingstoke saved the day, but were not signed up to Cyclesceme. Either Neil himself or someone else from Cyclescheme liaised with Matt at Surge Bikes and I now have the very sought after bike I wanted, in my size, and collected it today. So glad Surge joined the scheme and very grateful to both Neil at Cyclescheme and Matt at Surge for everything they've done.

Too slow My employer approved everything but cyclescheme was so slow issuing the invoice. I had to pay full cost of a bike from my credit card to meet employers request who requested I start cycling to work. Not impressed with the CycleScheme response - had a previous application years ago and had no problem. CycleScheme makes it so complicated without presenting information how to resolve the delay.

Extremely quick service from application to approval, cycle scheme allowed me to get an amazing top quality bike that I otherwise couldn't afford. I am now enjoying the benefits of the bike and have found a new love.
